Lamais's pov

Why do people think you have to look or dress a certain way to be a reader woman I wondered, it wasn't the first time I've experienced this sort of judging, but by a foreign national who clearly travelled here to seek me out was a little discomforting. I heard his car started up then drives off down the road. I bet he thought he was also going to see an old shack and numerous painted cross all over, or coloured flags, white pigeons and I could name quite a few more things but I better get to making those orders.

I grew up here in Whitehouse, Westmoreland and I live alone presently, I am not afraid of anything or anyone but some people are afraid of me. They call me mother woman but I prefer to be called read-er woman because that was what I actually do, I read people. Not many people are born like this and I once consider it as a curse since I was the only one in my family to inherit it from my grandmother.

At six years old my gift was discovered when I told my teacher that the basin she kept stressing over was burst and thrown away. Them knowing who my grandma was, send for my mother and told her to not send me back to school. My mother was angry and punish me telling me the next time I felt like reading people I should read my book instead. She was angry that the whole community had learnt of what had happened, but my grandmother told her to leave me be.

Everyone knew my grandmother and a lot of people came to her for all manner of help and healing, at the age of twelve I discover that most of them weren't suffering from anything- it was all in their minds. Sometimes I read people without them knowing and grandma said I shouldn't, well it was best since I ended up disliking some of them because of their dirty thoughts.

Most of my families didn't want to stay here because they were embarrassed of my grandma's read-ing practice and the spiritual church she leads. By the time I turn eighteen I was the only sibling left at home, everyone else moved away. It was at this point in my life that my gift of read-ing sparked and ignited and before my grandma took her heavenly journey she told me not to be afraid to carry on her work and use my gift.

The face of the man came back in my mind, he was fighting for a truth that doesn't exist, I sighed, sometimes telling people the truth when I read them can be difficult for them. Now at twenty-two years old, I've mastered my craft and made hundreds of thousands of dollars from it.

To be continued....
