Chapter Twenty-Nine.

Dawson

I wake up to Scarlet's whimpers, she's sitting up and crying. I sit up and pull her face towards me, "Ow!" She cries, my face softens as she opens her mouth. Her fangs have come through and fuck they're big. These were always cute moments to watch, like a baby growing their first teeth.

"Jesus Christ, saber-tooth fucking tiger." I place my thumb on her right fang, they're extremely sharp and they come to a point. 

"Ow! No!" She pulls away like a pouting child and I can't help but adore her. She's so sensitive but strong.

"Baby, this happens. Come here." I pull her to where her head is laying in my lap. Her long hair fans out beneath her and she sniffles, her gums are bleeding quite a bit. Blood has gathered in the corners of her lips. "They're very large." I compliment, shrugging.

I release my fangs, dragging my thumb across the bottom of my left one. "Open," I tell her. She shakes her head no, "Open up, Scarlet." I scold her like a child and she opens her mouth as tears run down the side of her face. I hate to see her in pain, it's like it eats me up on the inside and causes me to lose my mind. I know this is something as simple as her fangs coming in but I don't like the way she hurts.

I rub my blood gently along her gums and she looks up at me with her large eyes. I can't help but to laugh, she frowns. "Wha-" She murmurs, not being able to talk with my finger in her mouth.

"They're just so fucking big." She looks a little funny but adorable.

She blushes. "Don't worry, girls have bigger fangs than us guys," I tell her, trying to be casual. "It's just yours seems to be the largest of the girls." She kicks her feet in frustration and I watch as they contract back into her mouth. I grab the trash can and let her spit out the remaining blood.

"Are they ugly?" She asks, pushing her hair from her face.

"You could have two mammoth tusks and you wouldn't be ugly." I pull her to me and kiss her lips, suddenly I hear a car door shut from outside. "Oh fuck." I quickly get out of the bed, she looks confused, and then she realizes Kyla was threatening to come at any moment.

We both run downstairs and right when I get to the door, it's pulled open by the angry blonde. "You fucking asshole!" She yells, she slaps me in the face and I'm not expecting Scarlet to come from behind me, her fist connects with Kyla's nose. The force causes me to cringe, Kyla's head flies back and she hits the ground.

She looks at Scarlet shocked, she's holding her nose that pours blood. I'm in shock, the commotion causes Lennox to step out of his room. "You fucking bitch!" Kyla stands, I try to grab Scarlet but Kyla uses her powers to knock Scarlet into the air.

Scarlet hits the floor in the living room and groans softly, I run to her and I want to run through the stupid bitch. "Scarlet, baby. Get up." Kyla is entering the house, her eyes have pure fire in them.

"Son, let them deal with this," Lennox yells, pulling me away from Scarlet as she gets up.

"It's all my fault." I don't want Scarlet fighting and risking getting hurt just because I fucked up and fucked with the wrong bitch.

Scarlet opens her eyes and they're solid black, this throws Kyla off, she takes a step back. "What the fuck?" Her face softens in curiosity, Scarlet's fangs reveal themselves which makes her look even more intimidating.

"Hey-" Augustus randomly walks in with a smile on his face. I'm assuming they came together. His eyes land on Kyla and Scarlet. "Nope." He turns to walk out of the cabin. Suddenly all the doors slam shuts and locks. "I've seen this on Carrie-." Augustus tries to run up the stairs but it's like something grabs his foot and pulls him down the staircase. He groans softly and looks at me.

"What the fuck is going on?" He looks scared.

Kyla makes up the nerve to storm towards Scarlet, she gets halfway and suddenly she's stopped. It's like she walks into an invisible wall. Scarlet stares into Kyla's eyes, Kyla scrunches her face in pain and drops to her knees. She curls up on the floor, "Make it fucking stop." She screams, clawing at her ears. "Please." She begs, I almost can't breathe as I watch Scarlet motion her hand. Kyla's body flies into the wall, effortlessly like she weighs nothing. Her body falls limp on the floor and I hear Auggie choke.

"What the fuck, Kyla are you okay?" Augustus runs to Kyla, "Her ears are bleeding." He looks at me with a panic expression and then at Scarlet. "Help her!" He cries, he picks her limp body into his arm and falls back into his arms. "I knew this was a shit idea-" I can't believe he'd bring her here.

"I told her not to come. I knew Scarlet wouldn't let Kyla beat on her." I glare at him, "You shouldn't have brought her here." I look at Scarlet.

I hate seeing her like this, I walk towards her and I hear Lennox's warnings but I grab ahold of her. "Hey baby," I nervously push her hair out of her face. "It's okay," I bring her into my arms, I look at Lennox who's standing in shock and I hear Kyla gasp.

I feel Scarlet start to cry and I feel so bad for her, I pick her up bridal style and carry her up the stairs. She's crying into my neck and I'm comforting her as I take her into her room which is now ours. "Baby," When I shut the door she begins to sob like crazy. I lay her on the bed.

I press my forehead against hers and gently kiss her. "It's okay, don't cry," I tell her. Her eyes are still solid black, her fangs contract back inside of her gums. She flinches, her gums must be sensitive right now.

"I'm sorry." She whimpers. "That was bad of me." I pull her into me and wrap my arms around her. I shouldn't have let Kyla in.

"It was my fault. I should've never have let it get that far." I watch as she curls up next to me. "What happened?" I ask, genuinely curious.

"I don't know, I just got really angry." She sobs, there's a knock on the door and she pulls the cover over herself. I can't help but feel ready to run through anyone who wants to carry on the fight past this entrance. I answer it, Augustus is standing on the other side.

"Dude, what the fuck." He mouths silently, curiously trying to see Scarlet.

I open the door and he slips in. He cautiously strolls toward her. She looks at him. "Hi, I know we haven't met yet but I'm Augustus." He holds out his hand and she politely takes it. Her eyes are still solid black, I don't know if I can trust him with Scarlet. She's fragile. I almost laugh because I'm calling her fragile when she looks like the scariest fucking thing in the world.

"I'm Scarlet." Her voice is soft and sweet, he studies her in pure curiosity.

"Oh, yeah." He scratches the back of his head. "She's a bitch so like no ones mad." She nervously looks at me and I honestly want to punch him. I go to her side and take a seat next to her. "So, are you guys like a thing?" He asks, motioning between us.

"Yes." I blurt, not wanting him to get any ideas.

His eyes widen, he's about to say something when there's a knock on the door. That could only be two people so I scoot closer to Scarlet. The door opens and Lennox enters, "Scarlet." He has to look past me to see her.

"Are you okay?" He asks her, she pulls her knees to her chest.

"Is she okay?" I hear Kyla's voice on the other side of the door. "I'm the one that almost got killed." Everyone groans and Scarlet looks out the window.

Kyla opens the door and I glare at her, she rolls her eyes and she holds an ice pack to her head. "I decided that after his blood transfer, we need to take you to your parents. They must know about your abilities." I'm surprised Kyla seems interested instead of pouting in the corner.

"They don't know even I'm here-" She shakes her head.

"I'll come with you, I'm a good friend of theirs." Lennox's words comfort her and she looks at Kyla and then to me.

"Wait-" She looks at Lennox with her large black eyes. "Blood transfer?" She looks concerned.

"We need to remove your blood from his system and give him blood that he's compatible with." The room grows silent and I don't want her blood removed from my system.

"Who is he compatible with?" She asks the room stills.

Kyla sighs. "Me," She crosses her arms. "It's not going to be anything like romantic or anything, we pretty much hate each other." She pushes her blonde hair behind her ear.

Augustus gives Kyla a weird look, I catch it. "As long as he gets what he needs-" Scarlet nods.

"What? No." I shake my head, looking at Lennox. "I'm fine with her blood." I point to Scarlet.

"No you're not, the moment she doesn't give you any you'll be dying. That's why we have to remove it all in one go while feeding you." Lennox explains, I drop my head into my hands.

"It's okay, it's what has to be done. I'll sit next to you the entire time." Scarlet promises, laying her head against my shoulder.

Lennox leaves the room and Augustus pulls Kyla to the corner of the room, they're whispering to one another and I grow curious about what they're talking about. I decided to focus on their conversation while holding Scarlet.

"It's not serious," Kyla crosses her arms.

"Not serious, you're giving him your blood. It's going to make you feel more for him." Augustus seems to be angry about the blood transfer.

"I like you, okay. I'm trying. It's just obviously he'll die and even though he hurt me and he's a dick, he doesn't deserve that." She sighs, it's like hearing a whole other Kyla talk.

I realize that she and Augustus have something going on, is that why she's not acting so badly? Mine and his eyes connect and he clears his throat. "So," He walks towards me and Scarlet. "We heard about the soldiers." I mentally want to kick Auggie.

"That sounds pretty serious," Kyla adds, I'm still so fucking confused by how she's acting. Did Scarlet knock humanity into her or something?

"It's pretty confusing, I don't even know what they want with me," Scarlet says, she opens her eyes and they're back to normal. I brush her hair back and turn her face to study them.

"Well for one, I've fought a lot of girls and none of them had that much power in them. The fangs are odd too, mine is only like half the size of yours in length and width." Kyla says, "It may have something to do with that." She shrugs, it did make sense.

"I don't even know what my powers are though. I haven't had time to even learn how to control my fucking telekinesis yet and then I have a whole group of soldiers after me." She shrugs, Auggie and Kyla sit on the other side of the bed and I pull Scarlet onto my lap. Auggie seems to be liking the view, little does he know I know about him and She-Devil.

"What about the queen?" Auggie asks, leaning against the headboard. "Would she know anything about it?" He looks at Scarlet and she shrugs.

She looks at her bracelet and it's still glowing. "I need to see my parents, I need them to know. Right now they're sitting ducks thanks to the spell." She runs her hands through her hair and sighs.

"That spell?" Kyla scoffs. "I broke it within three days, the fucking Van Doren's probably knew it was coming and prevented it before it even got to them." I watch as Scarlet's face slightly drops and she reaches for the ruby.

"They would've called by now," I look at Scarlet and shrug.

"My parents are pretty chill, they probably know everything and is just waiting for me to come to them." She shakes her head, it feels good being able to be with her among others, and not have to hide my feelings.

"Well, let's go get ready for this thing." Kyla kicks Auggie's shoe and he immediately gets up. Auggie pats my back on the way out, I wait until the door is shut to pull Scarlet on top of me.

"They're fucking." She laughs, I roll my eyes.

"Right." I agree.
