The floor creaked beneath her as she made her way to the infirmary.Β

She couldn't help but think back to Ryan and everything that happened so far in the night. Her car broke down, the sudden animal attack, and the phone line went dead. Too many things were going wrong for all of this to be a simple coincidence.

Maybe Chris had severe gambling debt with the mafia and offered up his counselors as payment. Perhaps the animal attack was simply a freak accident.Β

"Hey," Kaitlyn frowned, "Where's Ryan and Dylan?"Β

"The phone in Mr. Hackett's office isn't working so they went to the radio hut to get a call out hopefully," the writer sat down on a free cot.Β

Kaitlyn nodded before her eyes zoned in on the red staining her hands, "Are you okay?" she walked over to her and held her hands, palms facing up. "What happened to you?"

"Just a small accident," she tilted her head, "Do you have anything for it?"

Kaitlyn hastily nodded and began to rummage through drawers, "Got it!" The counselor returned with some medical supplies, "This is gonna sting."Β

Y/N hissed as the cotton ball slid across her palms.Β

"I dug some gauze out of one of the bottom drawers," Kaitlyn said as she grabbed the gauze and wrapped it around the writer's palm.Β

Creak Creak

Everyone in the room paused and stared up at the ceiling as the sound of footsteps flooded theΒ room.

"I'm going to check it out," Kaitlyn whispered before picking up the shotgun.Β

Y/N pulled out her taser gun, "I'll go with you."Β Β

They slowly crept out of the room and up the steps. The two women split up, Kaitylin checking the top floor and Y/N checking the bottom floor.Β  Β Β

The writer walked around with a loose grip on her gun.Β

Creak!

She turned around to see a tall buff man with a shotgun making his way down the hall, she quickly ducked under a table.

She held her breath and watched as the man walked around the hall.Β Β

His heavy footsteps echoed in the otherwise quiet room.Β

She slowly crawled out from underneath the table and stood up to her full height before backing up.

Creak!

The man suddenly turned around and frowned at her, "There ya are."

Kaitlyn ran over to her and grabbed her hand before pulling her along, "Move it!"Β Β

The women ran away from their pursuer, back to the nurse's room.Β

Nick sat up from his reclined position, "What happened?"Β

"Some crazy dude is out there," Y/N explained with labored breath, "We need to do something!"

"We should hide," Nick stood up.Β

The door broke open and the burly man came through.

"We should get out of here!"Β

"Come here, girly!" The man yelled at her.

With Abigail and Nick still in the lodge, Kaitlyn was barely over the window.Β

I need to slow him downΒ

Y/N grippedΒ her gun with a wince and aimed it at the buff man, "Stop following us, or I'll shoot."Β

He stared at her before chuckling and taking a few steps closer.Β

She hardened her stare and placed her finger on the trigger, "I'm giving you one last warning!"Β

He continued to advance toward her and her friends.Β

Click!

The metal prongs shot out from the gun before connecting to its target. The man groaned before he collapsed to the ground in a fit of spasms.Β

The prongs retracted back into the gun and Y/N flicked the safety back on before hastily shoving the gun in her pocket. She ran over to the window and climbed out of it before following the rest of the group down the hill.Β

"Wow, that small thing packs a strong punch!" Kaitlyn said when she rejoined the group.Β

Y/N nodded, "I'm just glad it brought us some time."Β

Her gaze shifted towards Nick who was sporting a limp, "How are you holding up, Nick?"

"Fine," he muttered as his nose twitched, "I'm just kinda bummed we didn't find any food in the lodge. I could really go for some Peanutbutter Butter Pops."Β

"There's bound to be food somewhere around here," Abigail chimed in with a small smile before placing her hand on his forearm, "We'll find something for you."Β

The group slowed to a stop.Β

"Where should we go?" Kaitlyn placed her hand on her hips, "The lodge is definitely a no-go, and going back to the campfire is too risky."Β

"We could go back to the cabins," Abigail said with a small smile, "Emma and I opened the door to one of them."

Kaitlyn raised a brow, "Opened?"Β

Abigail chuckled awkwardly with a wave of her hand, "Let's not worry about that."Β

"I think it's a good idea," Y/N said, "It's also near the radio shack so we can meet up with Ryan and Dylan."Β

Β Kaitlyn nodded, "Then it's settled."

The group continued their journey through the dim forest trails with only the full moon to light their way.Β
