"So nice to see you too, Mr. Itadori. May I ask what you were speaking to my wife about?" Toji asks, glaring at Jin. Misaki, who is in Toji's arms, just looks back and forth between Jin and Toji. She doesn't understand what's going on but she knows that something is going on. You walk to Toji's side before looking back at Jin with the same smile that you've had for a while.

"Just making some polite conversation, Mr. Zenin. Do you have a problem with that?" Jin questions, and Toji doesn't immediately respond. You glare at your husband, hoping your look will force an answer out of his lips. He takes too long so you answer for him.

"There's no issue, Jin." You try to assure him. You attempt to change the topic fast before this can go on any longer. "Yu-"

"What kind of conversation, Mr. Itadori. Do I need to remind you she's a married woman?" Toji cuts you off and your eyes widen. You're not the only one with that reaction. Jin's cheeks slowly turn pink. His face is one as if he had just gotten caught red-handed.

"Now, honey, Jin is just being nice. No need to act so jealous, you know Jin is a good guy." You try to smile at Toji, but it's hard to hold up a smile. You look back at Jin. "Sorry about him, Jin. He has some jealousy issues."

"That's understandable. I would too." Jin replies, which makes Toji furrow his eyebrows. Misaki notices and is quick to say something.

"Dad, are you mad?" Misaki asks which causes your eyes, and Jin's eyes to widen. You both look at Misaki. Toji is also surprised by Misaki's use of "dad" but ultimately his frown goes away. He smiles, and shakes his head.

"I'm alright, Misaki." He assures her. You hope to change the subject now that Misaki has spoken.

"You really have a cute baby, Jin. Yuuji is adorable." You completely change the topic, looking at the drooling baby that just looks around. Megumi just looks at the pink haired baby, just analyzing him, wondering if you and Toji had chosen someone else to replace him.

"Thank you." Jin smiles. You stand in silence for a couple of seconds before Megumi finally stops staring and looks at you, slapping your collar bone, hoping to catch your attention. You look back at him with a genuine smile.

"What's up my baby?" You ask with a much sweeter tone. He tries to say words that end up as babbles. Nothing comprehensible but you pretend as if you understand, nodding and responding to his babbles. You look at the men in the room and excuse yourself, "Sorry but what Megumi is telling me is very important and it's best if I deal with it in private."

You step out of the uncomfortable situation, into one that's still uncomfortable but just slightly less. The people around you don't really like you, they just wonder how you ended up with Toji. Of course, there's a couple other people in the room that know, and they make you more uncomfortable than anyone else. You stand in a corner with Megumi, his hand grips the strap of your dress while he looks at the unfamiliar people.

Your father spots you and he walks over to you. He smiles at you, and looks at the baby that you hold in your arms. It's as if he had done nothing to you, or at least that's the vibe he gives off. When he finally gets to you he smiles, "We haven't really talked since I've gotten here."

"We haven't really talked in almost three months." You respond, and he has nothing to say. He never really bothers to call, or even text you, which you're actually grateful for. He puts his hands in his pockets, displaying his awkwardness.

"Where's Misaki? Haven't really seen her, she's been following you around all the time and she hasn't come to greet me." Your father brings up. You sigh, wondering when the conversation will finally be over.

"She's with Toji." You answer, which takes him by surprise.

"She's getting along with Toji?" He asks and you nod. Megumi interrupts the awkward conversation with a random yell. You both look at him.

"What's up, baby?" You ask, walking away once again, evading the situation. Jin comes out of the kitchen shortly after, and it surprises you when Misaki comes along as well, but Toji isn't with them. Jin comes to your side again, taking advantage of the fact that Toji isn't with you. Yuuji now has a cracker in his mouth, but he doesn't bite it. He makes the cracker mushy.

"Dad went outside to get some fresh air." Misaki repeats the same words that Toji said before he put her down on the floor. You wonder what more fresh air he needs. If anything you're the one who needs that after being in the suffocating space for far too long.

"Why aren't you with the guests?" Jin questions, after all, he isn't a normal guest. He isn't there to only celebrate Megumi's first year of life. He is a reporter and he has to make a story out of this, and so far he has a couple enthusiastic words to say about the party because of Toji.

"Baby gets a bit uncomfortable around so many people so we're slowly working into integrating ourselves." You tell him, which isn't exactly a lie if you replace "baby" with you instead of Megumi. Jin nods, although he can't relate. Yuuji adores large crowds since the attention is always on him.

"You look really pretty in that dress by the way. I don't think I mentioned it." He compliments you, and you smile, your gaze moving so you don't look him in the eyes as you thank him. Misaki listens attentively to the exchange.

"Now that Toji is here I'll try to get those family pictures that you need for the article." You try to keep things as professional as they can be.

"Of course, don't let me get in your way." Jin replies, a bit disappointed. But you can't exactly go anywhere since you don't know which exact direction Toji went. Jin notices and he speaks up, "He's in the garden."

And while you don't want the children to come with you, you also don't exactly trust anyone in the room to take care of them. Except your father. You trust him just a bit when he's isolated from your step-mother. And right now he's not near anyone.

You walk over to him, which catches his attention. You don't wait for him to say anything. "Can you watch the kids for a minute while I speak with Toji?"

"Ye-" He doesn't even finish the word and you hand him the baby that's in your arms, who clearly doesn't want to let go of you. A couple of whines escape his lips and you kiss his forehead, trying to assure him that he'd be alright. You crouch down in front of Misaki and kiss her forehead as well.

"Please behave, I'll be right back." You tell her and she nods. You pat her head before standing back up and walking out to the garden.

Walking out without a coat on was perhaps a mistake on your part, but it's too late to go back in, you think. You continue walking through the garden, attempting to find him but it's like a maze and he's nowhere to be seen. Perhaps Jin was lying.

The fact that the leaves have fallen and everything is just what feels like a big pile of snow doesn't help your case because you can't distinguish anything. You walk a bit more until you finally find him, sitting on the snow, playing with his wedding band. You call his name which makes his head snap your way. "Toji!"

You run to him, wanting this to be over as soon as possible so you can go back inside to the warmth of the house. You finally catch up to where he's at.

"We have to go back inside to take pictures with Megumi and Misaki for the article." You inform him, and he notices your trembling from being cold. He nods.

"Alright give me a minute." He responds, and instead of turning around and leaving you stay still. He looks up at you, repeating the same words, "Give me a minute."

"I'll wait for you." You reply, causing him to click his tongue.

"Go back inside. You're clearly cold." He says, but you won't move. You take a seat next to him instead. His head turns to look at you while you look straight ahead. Your bottom lip trembles, but you won't leave until he leaves as well. "If you wanted to spend all this time with me, why didn't your dumbass bring a coat?"

"I forgot it." You confess with a chuckle. He doesn't say anything and for a minute you sit in complete silence. He doesn't have a coat on either, which you want to reprimand him for, but he doesn't have the same reaction to the cold as you.

"Can I hug you?" He asks, and you look at him, raising your eyebrow. You aren't sure what you want. You don't want his arms around you but at the same time you're extremely cold and you refuse to go back inside without him. You end up nodding and he puts his arms around you, pulling you into his embrace. You hear him chuckle. "Five minutes out and you're already dying from the cold. At least I can trust that the kids will always have the right attire for the weather."

He's much different than he was three months ago. Heck, even a couple hours before the party.  He doesn't understand where this sudden change came from, and he beats himself up for it. Yet he won't do anything about it. He still holds you to soothe the cold. "Am I warming you?"

"You are. Thank you." You answer. There's silence for another minute before you say what's on your mind. "Why are you out here?"

"I- Just..." He can't find the right words. "Megumi is turning one and I just can't help but feel a little- He's my son and I love him so much and I really want to celebrate the birthday but I can't help but miss her. She had so many different plans for this day, and the fact that I'm not doing anything to make any of those plans happen makes me feel guilty."

"Hmm... That's kind of sad. Why didn't you tell me so we could make his birthday more special?" You ask, and he doesn't have any type of answer. But you figure it out, at least you think you do. It's simple, he doesn't say anything because he doesn't like you. You don't know what to say so for a while you just stay quiet. "We can do something after the party, if not the next week."

"Well... We had plans of going to her parents' house and eating lunch with them, then go to a little park that was near our home and play with him for a bit if it wasn't too cold, maybe play outside with the snow for a bit. Finally at night she planned to give him a cupcake with a little candle and sing him happy birthday." He tells you. "It's nothing special but she had been planning it out since the very first moment she held him in her arms."

"It is special. She was Megumi's mother, and your wife so I get why you're so upset." You assure him. "We can do that next week. Or you can."

"We can. I doubt Megumi would be happy if I took him from you." He responds which makes you chuckle since you know it's true. You and Megumi spend each moment of each day together.

"I don't know how great that'd be though... Taking me to Megumi's grandparents' home. Especially since it hasn't been a year since she-" You begin but he stops you before you get to finish. He doesn't like hearing "died" or "passed away" when speaking about his late wife, even though it's true.

"Her parents didn't like me that much... So we can skip that." He confesses.

"Alright..." You reply. There's silence again, but you don't mind. You enjoy the warmth he gives you for another minute before pulling away. "I'll leave you alone for a bit more, just come back in soon, okay?"

He nods as he watches you stand up. He doesn't know what to do next. Frankly he's been clueless for eight months. And he doesn't know what comes over him but he stands up as well, even though he was going to stay out for a bit longer. You notice and smile at him.

"It's best if I come back in as well." He says, and you both begin to walk side by side.

"Why did you sit there of all places?" You ask when you're approaching the door that leads inside. You took notice of where, even though all the roses had withered.

"Because there my life changed." He answers. "I apologize for my... shitty behavior. You're not a bad wife."

"Shitty? More like murderous." You attempt to joke but he doesn't find humor in it.

"You make a great friend and I've been caught up in my feelings to realize that." He continues.

"Aw man! Did I just get friendzoned by my own husband?" You joke and he chuckles. You get to the door before you can question the jealous behavior he had earlier. He opens the door and lets you in first, the warmth from the inside hitting your skin, instantly calming the cold that had taken over your body. You wait for him to walk in, and when he does, you grab his hand and walk back to your father to get the kids.

Toji lets go of your hand and takes Megumi into his arms, while you grab Misaki's hand.

-

There's a big cake with Megumi's name and a single candle in the middle. You attempt to get Megumi to blow out the candle, but he doesn't understand the concept of it. His hands are tempted to touch the alluring flame, so you hold his hands back.

Toji ends up blowing the candle out for Megumi, before he begins to clap which makes Megumi believe that he somehow did it. Everyone else begins to clap, and you let go of his hands, so the baby joins in and claps as well. You take notice of Jin's baby, who has also joined in with everyone else, striking his palms together, which makes Jin smile.

"Yay! You did it Megumi!" You congratulate Megumi before kissing his cheek. You take notice of the flash of a camera, and you hold back a smirk knowing that the perfect moment had been captured. You hear Megumi's laugh, loving the praise he's receiving from everyone in the room.

Misaki eyes the cake and she's so tempted to get some of the frosting, but she knows that you'll reprimand her since it's not her cake. Toji notices and he bends down just a bit. "Get some of the frosting, I'll take the blame for you."

So she listens to Toji and gets some of the corner's frosting on her finger before bringing the finger up to her lips and savoring the sweetness of the icing. She grins, the flavor cheering her up. The birthday party was one she didn't expect. Not a kid in sight, her being the only one, so she's reasonably bored.

You grab the cake knife and cut the first tiny slice of the cake since it's for Megumi. Toji hands you a plate which you serve the first slice on. You plan on walking away with Megumi but first you hand Toji the cake knife, telling him, "Serve Misaki a big slice, I know she's been dying for that cake ever since we got it."

Toji nods, knowing he already had those plans anyway, and you end up walking away to take a seat with Megumi. You put the plate down and allow him to put his hands on the cake. He takes a handful and brings it up to his mouth, most of it getting on his face rather than his mouth, but he loves the bit that he gets to taste.

Toji joins you with Misaki shortly after. He comes with two plates, and Misaki holds her own, so the extra one he holds is for you. You take it without hesitation since it wouldn't be smart on his part to poison you in front of so many people. Misaki takes a seat next to you, while Toji puts his plate down and grabs his baby.

"What did you do with the guests?" You ask, since you had assumed that he would take over the duty of cutting everyone a slice.

"Made your father cut the cake." Toji nonchalantly replies which causes you to laugh. You look at your daughter who enjoys her cake.

"Do you like it, honey?" You ask and she hums, her mouth too full with cake to give you a verbal answer. "Do you want one like this for your birthday?"

"Yes!" She exclaims once she swallows. You continue eating quietly, keeping an eye on your kids. Misaki eats excitedly, making sure not a single drop goes to waste. Megumi eats with the same excitement, however, pretty much all of the cake is on his face.

He finishes and most of the cake covers his hands and face. Toji tries to hold Megumi still but Megumi wants to do something else. He notices you and makes grabby hands your way, opening and closing his fists. Toji can't believe his own son is betraying him like this. But neither of you do anything, you just watch. Until Megumi says, "Mama!"

It takes you by surprise. You smile before taking him from his father's arms. Megumi occasionally says actual words. He says dada a lot, but for the first time he calls you mama. You're over the moon. You speak to Megumi, "Let's get you cleaned up, baby, you're dirty."

And Toji watches your happiness over the fact that his son called you mama, however, Toji can't share those same feelings.
