Once the bell rings everybody packs away their belongings and exits the classroom. After arranging my textbooks, I shut my locker door only to reveal Tye standing at the end of the hallway. He leans against the wall with his backpack hanging on one shoulder.

A smile appears on my face seeing that he's in school today... That is until I squint my eyes and spot him talking to someone, my smile washes away instantly.

Trisha.

It doesn't look like a friendly conversation, in fact it looks like he's quietly telling her off. I furrow my eyebrows and walk in their direction, neither of them seem to notice me in the far distance and before I can get close enough Trisha walks away, leaving Tye to comb a hand through his hair stressfully.

"Tye?" I make my presence known.

He jumps a little, surprised to hear my voice so close, but quickly holds my elbows and pulls me in gently. "Hey babe, how was your morning?"

"Why were you talking to Trisha?" I cut to the chase. I haven't forgotten about Tye and Trisha's past, and I know he can read the seriousness in my tone and eyes.

He turns his head back as if he doesn't know who I'm talking about, then bounces his chin slowly in remembrance.

"Oh that... It was nothing serious. She tried to talk to me about something, but of course I told her to leave me alone. See? Nothing serious."

He holds a smile of his face and strokes my arm, however the edges of my mouth don't lift. His head then slumps to the side.

"Oh come on, it's not like I would ever voluntarily talk to her. Why would I after that amazing date we had the other night? What reason would I possibly have to talk to her when I have you?" He smiles and curls his nose into my neck, his cute smile printing into my skin.

I hum and look to the side. He leans back again and places a peck on my forehead, his hand rubs my arm once more.

"Don't be paranoid, you said you trust me remember?"

I look into his eyes and nod along.

The school bell rings signalling that it's time for next class.

"There goes the bell. I'll see you after my gym class." His arms embrace my waist in a hug, causing me to hug him back.

When I look over his shoulder I see two of Trisha's friends hiding their faces and giggling... at me?

Even though it's still early, I make my way to work as soon as school is finished. As I'm walking down the sidewalk the loud sound of a motorcycle grows from the far distance, standing out as the only vehicle on the road.

Before I can turn my head the black and purple bike breaks abruptly beside me. The driver has a very curved and feminine figure, she wears a dark one piece that reminds me of the costume of Avengers' Black Widow.

She pulls the helmet from her head, revealing her long hair and familiar features.

"Winter! You scared me don't do that."

"Hey. Where you' heading?"

"Work. I just came out of school."

"But we don't start for over another hour."

"Yeah but I don't wanna go home, get comfortable for 20 minutes and then have to leave again."

"Hm, then let's grab a coffee." She looks over my shoulder. I rotate my head back to realise there's a coffee cafe next to me. My head nods in agreement.

The lady at the counter hands us each a coffee, I thank her before Winter and I take a seat at a small, round table by the window.

"I don't think we've ever hung out before, as in just us two." I tell her. She sips her coffee, "I'm usually not out unless it's work."

"You don't go college?"

"Dropped out." She sets down her mug. "Why?" She shrugs casually, "Dunno. Life happened. Wasn't for me. So update me, how are things with you and Tye?"

I look down at my mug, holding it with both hands before lifting to show a light smile. "Things are good."

After a couple seconds of silence I set down the coffee from my lips and look Winter in the eye.

"Winter, can I ask you something random?"

"Shoot."

"You were the first waitress out of all of us. How did you start working at the cafe?"

She scoffs amusingly, looking down at the table like a wave of memories just hit her. "Now that is a story."

"We have time." I check the clock, she stares back at me before sighing. "Let's just say Taehyung found me when I was in a dark place. I mean that's why we're all here, isn't it?"

"What do you mean?"

"Back when the cafe opened it was just Taehyung and I at first, but a week later he found Teddy in the park. She was street performing at ten years old, trying to make money for her five newborn brothers. So he gave her a job. Gretchen came along 8 months ago, no family in the country except her grandma. Poor woman can barely see her own hand. Taehyung let her work with us too. There's also Chrys. She may be a family friend and look like she already has everything, but you can tell she never got to spend as much time with her father as she'd liked, heck money is probably the only family she knows. Without us, the only person she'd have in her life is her butler."

I can barely contain my surprised expression. I never really knew how rough these girls lives were when you looked at it differently.

"And then there's you." Her eyes pierce through mine. My brows jump a little.

"I don't know what his deal is with you, but I'm sure Taehyung has his reasons." She props her elbow on the table, resting her cheek in her palm, her face points out towards the window.

"You might think he's an arrogant jerk, which he can be, but when you look at it the right way he's sort of a hero for taking us all in. And if you don't think so yet you'll realise it soon."

My thumbs twiddle with each other. Kim Taehyung, a hero? I never thought I'd put those two words together. But I guess Winter's kind of right, I mean if it weren't for Taehyung Teddy would be on the streets and her brothers... would they even be here?

"So then what's his reason for hiring you?" I ask. Her eyes widen a little, Winter is a calm person 24/7 so it's rare to see her caught so off guard.

"We just have similar pasts, I found him to be the first person in my life I could relate to."

"I see. It sounds like we were all hired for a reason. I'm interested to know which is mine." I nod, drinking some coffee.

"It must feel crazy to be the first girl hired, that means you've seen everything that goes on in the cafe. Have there ever been guy employees? Is there anybody that used to work there but is now fired? What's the craziest thing that's happened there?"

She hums at my random fireball of questions.

"Let's see uh, there's never been any guy employees, just girls. Everybody who works there now are the only ones to have worked there, I think it would have to be a real serious reason for Taehyung to fire somebody. And as for craziest thing..." She looks up in thought.

"Has to be the time Jungkook dared himself to run through the cafe naked on a busy day. Or when Teddy accidentally kicked a ball at the sink in the kitchen. The faucet snapped off and flooded the cafe."

"No way! I wish I could have been there." I gape, making us both chuckle.

"Okay okay, I have one more question. It's actually something that I wanted to ask you the first day I met you, but I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate."

"Oh yeah? What's that?"

"...Is Winter you're real name?"

She looks down into her empty mug and clears her throat partially. Her head rises again, swinging the long dark hair from her her

"No. Winter's not my real name."

"Then how did you get it?"

"My whole life people have said I'm a cold person. So I thought hey, Winter." She shrugs. "I've never told anyone my real name before. I don't know if I ever will."

"Well I don't think you're a cold person Winter, I think you're cool. I wasn't there at the beginning, but it sounds like working at the cafe definitely opened you up more, I hope one day you feel free enough to go by your real name." I smile at her. She even smiles back. It's the most genuine smile I've seen her display since the day we first met.

This is a beautiful moment.

"Thanks. Now let's go out of here before we're late." She gets up from her seat, making me copy.

Winter and I walk into the cafe, "Hello crazy people." I say playfully. Everyone greets us in return.

I look over at the counter, Jungkook leans against it whilst talking to Taehyung on the other side whose back is turned to us.

His arms rest by his elbows, his arms fold together while his hips poke out.

Jungkook suddenly stops talking to him and looks at me, making Taehyung look over his shoulder and dart his ice-cold eyes into mine

I freeze from the sudden eye contact, but he manages to hold a blank face. Before I can look away he stands straight and goes off into the kitchen. He looks... kind of irritated with me. What did I do?

Interrupting my thoughts, Teddy runs up to us bouncing like a jelly bean on springs.

"Hi Lilo hi Winter hows it going today you two look fabulous really thank you haha hey is it just me or is it hot today it's like the ceilings flying away whoaaaa I never noticed how big this room is it's like you're 100 miles away from me!" Teddy begins to scramble her hands around my face, I lean back and separate her arms. That's when I notice the sugar all over her mouth. Dang it Teddy, you were doing so well.

"Teddy, how much candy have you had today?"

"I don't know like 4... teen, 14 40 43 forty-FREE, free is good candy is good oh my GOSH you're so funny PAHA!"

I look at Winter with a scared expression.

"Whoa, someone's hyper." Jungkook plucks a grape from the stem and drops it into his mouth from behind the counter. Winter places a hand on her hip, "Mind getting out of my spot?"

"Chill babe, I was just keeping your seat warm until you got back. The least you could do as a thank you is feed me." His abdomen curls over the countertop.

Winter takes a grape from the packer, making Jungkook stretch his mouth adorable, only for her to flick it at his forehead.

"Okay Teddy," I place my hands on her arms and turn her around. "Maybe you should rest upstairs until you're calmed down. I'm sure Tae won't mind."

She pushes me away and starts running around the room frantically. Jimin tries to hold her still, but she slaps him and breaks free. Gretchen enters the diner holding a pile of dishes, but Teddy zooms past her like a lightning bolt and she drops them all. The pieces of glass shatter at her feet.

"Teddy!" Gretchen stomps, turning around to go get the broom. Chrys smirks from her table and sips her tea, pleased that she's not involved in the chaos.

"Okay, who allowed Teddy to eat so much candy?" I ask. Jungkook and Jimin share a glance before pointing at each other with guilty faces.

I sigh in response and grab her by the shoulders. "Come on Teddy, let's get you laid down."

I direct her into the kitchen where Taehyung is standing. We look at each other for only a split second before he averts his focus and steps aside, allowing us to pass.

"Teddy had too much candy again. I'm gonna lay her down in your room if that's okay."

"Yeah sure." His voice is low and flat. I look at him with furrowed eyebrows before going upstairs.

Once she's tucked in bed, I go downstairs to the changing room and put on my uniform.

Shortly after, I pass through the kitchen again to get to the diner. As I'm walking past Taehyung leans against the counter tapping on his phone.

I place my hand on the door, ready to push it but instead, take a step back. Taehyung notices this and looks up at me.

"Okay what is up with you?" I cross my arms.

"Hm?" Acting as if he didn't catch what I said.

"You've been acting weird all day, every time I look at you. Did I do something wrong? What's going on?"

He stops what he's doing and lets out a sigh, running his hand through his hair.

"You're boyfriends trash."
