"I can't get over how gorgeous you look today," Oikawa says as he helps you out of his car. He watches you fix the skirt of your sundress, tugging it down to your mid thighs. There's something about the light yellow fabric that compliments your skin, and it hugs your body well, accentuating your curves and shoulders.

You clear your throat when you catch him staring. "Something wrong?"

"No," he quickly shakes his head to get himself out of his thoughts, but he can't help but admire you one more time. "Just admiring my baby."

Earlier, Oikawa had picked you up from your house and had to explain to Niko why he couldn't join when he ran out. Niko started begging him to come inside and play a couple games, but at the mention of a date, your brother started smirking devilishly. "Okay," he sang, "Don't have too much fun!"

The car ride was long but pleasant. You and Oikawa mingled for the first few minutes, and when he saw you wandering off, admiring the view of the passing city from your window, he decided to let you have your moment.

It's been some time since you've last visited this part of the city. The buildings turned into trees, and after a few more minutes, the water and the boardwalk came into view.

Now, Oikawa was holding your hand and leading you into a nearby restaurant, with bright windows and a warm atmosphere. "This place is called Hakata Shoryuken Ramen. Have you been here before?"

"No, but I've passed this place before," you say, eyes scanning the busy area. Waiters bustled around the tables with trays of different ramen dishes. Most of the tables had been occupied by groups of people and couples while the counter had seats for one.

"I love this place, but it's not this busy when I come here. Probably a hot spot for dates during this time on the weekends," trying to speak over the noise, Oikawa points to an empty table in the far corner, "That's where I usually sit with the boys."

A waitress shuffles to the front and asks for your names. After jotting down a note, she gestures for you to follow her, straight to the table that Oikawa had mentioned earlier. "Welcome to Hakata Shoryuken," she sighs, already tired from serving twenty people prior, "Here are your menus."

When she rushes off, you give Oikawa a look. "We probably shouldn't stay here too long," you say as you flip through the menu, "We can probably get dessert somewhere else and have it with us when we walk along the boardwalk."

"Sounds like a good idea," Oikawa watches you explore the menu. The waitress eventually circles back with two glasses of water, scribbles down your orders, and scurries off into the kitchen. "Do you remember that elderly woman we saw at the grocery store the other night?"

"How could I forget?" you giggle after taking a sip of water, "She was swooning over you hard."

"The day you were sick, I saw her again when I was buying you stuff," he says, watching your brows rise, "She even asked where you were. Something like, where's your girlfriend?" he grins as the memory revisits him, "We look like a couple in public but we aren't actually dating yet."

You catch the word. Yet. The idea of becoming an official couple with Oikawa brings a sense of comfort, but the more you imagine the scenario, the more anxious you start to become. "That's funny."

The waitress quickly returns with two bowls of tonkotsu ramen. "Enjoy," she forces a grin before rushing to another table, picking up their empty dishes, and running into the kitchen.

Thinly sliced pork sits on top of noodles and rich broth, along with bean sprouts, mushrooms, and green onions. The scent makes your mouth water in an instant. "Do you usually order this when you come here?"

"All the time," Oikawa says as he tastes the broth, coating his tongue in pure flavour, "I swear, it tastes better every time I come back here. I even order extra noodles to go with the leftover soup."

Both of you finish your bowls in a blink of an eye, and when the waiter circles back, you copy Oikawa and order extra noodles. You two stay there longer than expected, sharing stories and gossiping about the teachers at Seijoh.

You learn more about Oikawa; he's taking online Spanish classes at a college to help prepare him for when he eventually travels outside of the country. "I like to think that the world has so much more for me, ya know?" he says through a mouthful of ramen, "I wanna see everything that the world has to offer."

"Where would you want to travel first?"

"Somewhere where I can use my Spanish," he thinks for a second, then takes another bite of pork, "Probably Spain or Colombia or Cuba, but I really like Argentina's volleyball team. I always watch their matches online and study their games, so I think going there would be cool."

"Aren't those countries into soccer more than volleyball?"

"I think so, but there's something about Argentina's team that I really like."

"Maybe you'll get the chance to play with them one day," you give him a smile, "As you said, the world has much to offer."

"I'm already getting excited just thinking about it," he wiggles in his seat, letting the imagery get to his head, "But, I'll only travel if you and Iwa-chan come with me."

Your smile widens when the same imagery gets to your own head. "I would love to travel with you one day."

When the waiter spots your empty bowls, she returns and collects the empty dishes. Oikawa asks for the bill, wallet ready in his hand, but you take the paper from the waitress and get your cash ready.

"Don't worry about this one," you nod to a beaming Oikawa, "It's about time I do this for you."

Once you finish paying, Oikawa leads you out of the restaurant and back to his car. "Thank you."

"It's no problem," you say as you both buckle in. He continues to drive down the road towards the lake. There are subtle waves that crash against the wooden boardwalk, reflecting the last bits of light from the setting sun.

A few people are in the area, either walking or sitting and enjoying the view. Even a few children run around, tossing and kicking a ball back and forth on the grass. Oikawa has to fight the urge to join the group of kids playing with the ball β€” he wants to teach them how to volley and overhand serve.

"I swear, I can never get sick of this view," you close your eyes, enjoying the feel of the wind. When the water crashes against the platform, a light spritz of water cools your skin. Everything feels surreal and peaceful. "I'm glad today happened."

"The day isn't over yet," Oikawa tugs on your hand, bringing you farther down the boardwalk. In the distance, he sees a few people lining up in front of a stand. He squints, trying to make out what the stand is selling, and he jumps when he sees ice cream cones. "Let's get dessert over there!"

Before you can respond, he starts running, dragging you along with him. You start gasping for air, already tired from the small sprint to even read the options.

"What do you wanna get?" Oikawa smiles with his wallet ready in his hand, "Let's get two different things so we can try each other's!"

"How about you surprise me with something."

"Okay!" he says before moving up in the line. You turn to watch the sun cascading over the waves, and after a few moments, Oikawa returns with two different desserts. "I got a strawberry sundae and this weird cookie ice cream sandwich thing. We should eat them before they melt."

"Over there," you grab his arm and lead him to an empty bench facing the water. A breeze rushes by, rippling the water and the time, and the next thing you know, the sun has already disappeared past the horizon.

Looking up, you find stars beginning to pop out onto the evening sky. As the air gets colder, people start to head home for the day. You wrap your arms around your body, saving the little warmth that you have when another gust of wind rushes past.

Oikawa feels you shiver against his body. Leaning forward, he slides his jacket off his back and holds it to you. "Wear it."

You look at the jacket, then back up at him. "You sure?"

"Yeah. I don't mind, really," he waits for you to take it, but decides to carefully drape it over your shoulders. The jacket is warm from Oikawa's body heat, instantly putting you at ease.

There's a sense of safety and security that floods your chest. It makes you lean your head on his shoulder and embrace his presence. "Thank you."

"No problem."

The silence that follows is therapeutic. As much as he didn't want to ruin the moment, a question itches at the back of his throat. "Y/n?"

You lean your head off his shoulder and look up at him. "Mhm?"

"What if we became official?" The question doesn't come out as Oikawa expected; he wanted to ask you to be his girlfriend, but something was holding him back. "We confessed that we liked each other already, so I was thinking, you know, we could maybe become an official couple."

The answer feels obvious. "I would love that," you watch a smile bloom on his face, "But, we have to stay private."

Oikawa's spirit dies down in an instant. Private? "What?"

You look down at his hands and hold them in your own. "I want us to be official, but date in private. I just think it would be best that way."

"Why?"

"Isn't it obvious?" you ask, and he answers with silence. "Oikawa, you're the most popular guy at Aoba Johsai, and I'm no one. I don't even have friends at school. I only have you, Iwa, and Niko. I just think that if people saw us together and found out that we started dating, they would judge you and try to break us up."

Oikawa's excitement deflates. "You're worried about what other people might think?"

"I guess so," you find a glimpse of sadness in his eyes, "People will bombard you with questions like, 'Why are you dating her?' 'Who is she?' or they might even say, 'You could do so much better'. You have a reputation you need to keep, and I don't want to ruin it."

Your answer leaves Oikawa feeling puzzled. He thought that you would be on board β€” and react a lot more thrilled β€” but the shakiness in your voice said otherwise. "Why would you think that?"

"It's the truth."

"It's not," Oikawa scoffs, "I like you, and you like me. I don't see any issues with that, and if people have a problem with us dating, then that's a problem for them to deal with," he brings a hand to your cheek, making you look him in his eyes, "I want to be seen with you. I want people to know that we are together, and I don't see any issues with that at all. But, if you really want to stay private, then I won't force you to do anything out of your comfort. As long as we're official, I'll be happy."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Are you sure?"

"I've never felt more sure of something in my life."

You break eye contact to look around. No one was on the boardwalk; just you, Oikawa, the water, and the stars above. Everything seemed to be still for a moment, quiet and waiting for your answer.

"Okay," you breathe, putting all of your trust into Oikawa's hands, "Let's do this. Let's be official."
