The scent of fresh pastries and brewed coffee wafts into your face as soon as you open the door to the cafe. A few tables are already occupied with people, ranging from families to construction workers to other students from Aoba Johsai.

Chatter and soft music float throughout the cafe as you walk around, looking for Oikawa. Then, a hand grips your arm and pulls you to the side. "There you are!"

Out of instinct, you yank your arm out of the stranger's grasp. "What theβ€”" when you see Oikawa's face, already beaming with a smile, you let out a bored sigh. "Oh, it's you."

"Yes, it's me!" he waits for you to smile back, and when the moment stretches on without a reaction, he continues. "I already have a table for us. Follow me."

His hand naturally reaches for your own, linking your fingers with his. You're hesitant at first, but when you feel his soft skin and warm touch, guiding you to the corner of the cafe, you don't stop him at all.

"Here," he says, sliding a chair back for you. Once you're seated, he does his best to wipe the excitement off his face before taking his seat across the table. "I already placed our orders. They should be coming soon."

"Oh," you break eye contact to look around the cafe. Posters of the cafe's different delicacies plaster the walls, along with other decorative pieces that compliment the pink paint. The floor is bright with teal and white tiles while the furniture was made with dark wood and metals. "This place looks new."

"It's been here for little less than a year," Oikawa says, following your gaze around the cafe, "but it's already really popular."

You turn back around to face him. "Hm, I can see."

Before Oikawa can say another word, a waitress approaches your table with a tray in her hand. "Hello," she greets the two of you, "I have a hot coffee here?"

"Yes, that would be for her," Oikawa gestures across the table to you. The waitress flashes a grin, but when she sees your bored expression, she drops it and places your mug on the table.

"Sugar and cream?" she asks, and you quickly nod, looking away while she places the small packets next to your cup. "And here's your cinnabon as well. Makes for a great combination."

Oikawa straightens his back, eyeing the waitress' last mug. "And mine?"

"Ah, yes," she lets him take it off her tray, "and a hot chocolate for you, sir."

They exchange nods before she rushes off behind the counter to work on other orders. "It's great here, isn't it?" Oikawa says, bringing the rim of his mug to his lips and taking a small sip. Then, a scowl instantly sprouts on his face. "Shit, it's too hot."

You raise your brows. "Seriously?" your eyes fall to his drink, then back up to his face, "Hot chocolate? Really?"

"Yeah, it tastes great." Oikawa says with a 'duh' tone. When he sees you looking at his drink, he holds it forward, "Wanna try it?"

"No thanks," your voice is dismissive, bringing a small pain to Oikawa's chest. "I prefer coffee."

"I hate coffee. It's too bitter."

"And your drink's too sweet."

"Sweet is better than bitter."

"Hot chocolate is for children. Coffee is for normal people."

"Hot chocolate is made for people who know how to have fun. Coffee is made for people who need energy so they hope to find it in a bitter liquid when it's actually found in healthy foods and good amounts of sleepβ€”" he bites his tongue when he notices the annoyed look on your face. "Ignore everything I just said."

"Will do."

He watches you turn around, your boredom guiding you to look elsewhere besides him. Apologizing over text seemed to be the easiest option for Oikawa, and now that you were sitting in front of him, it was harder for him to retrieve those same words and actually say them out loud.

"Y/n," he starts, "I know I've told you before, but it only feels right if I actually tell you face to face."

You spare him a glance. "What is it?"

"I'm sorry for how I treated you when we were together," his voice shakes, and he has to take a deep breath to calm his nerves. "I honestly had no idea what I was thinking. Now that I look back on our night, I realized how selfish and idiotic I was, and I know you're mad at me," he lets out a small laugh, "I mean, you have every right to be mad at me. But, just know that I'm really truly sorry. I totally understand if you want to end this. You deserve someone way better than me who knows how to treat you right.

"But, there's still a small hope in me that wishes we could continue what we have. I promise to be better and I promise to listen to everything you want to tell me," his voice is soft and almost out of breath from his sincere apology. "So, what do you say?"

Finding it suddenly hard to look him in the eye, you trace the rim of your mug with a finger, letting the steam rise up and swirl around the air. "I say that you're forgiven."

A wide smile appears on Oikawa's face. "Thank youβ€”"

"But, I'm not letting you off the hook that easily," you interrupt his celebration. "If you really want to prove yourself, we'll have to come to terms with a few things."

He nods. "Alright."

"We should meet up only when both of us are free and have the time. And, obviously, this only stays between me and you. No one else should know," you pause for a moment before continuing, "I forgot to feed my brother dinner last time, and he stayed up all night waiting for me to come home. And you have your own responsibilities, too."

"Yes, but I've been managing fine for a while now," Oikawa replies, "But I'm not here to talk about myself. I wanna get to know more about you."

"Me? Why the sudden interest?"

He grins warmly. "I care about you."

You blink, then roll your eyes playfully. "Whatever you say. Where should I start?"

"Tell me about your family. Does your brother go to Aoba Johsai as well?"

"No," you take a small sip from your cup before grabbing a fork and cutting the cinnabon into two halves, "He's in Kitagawa High right now."

"Oh, no way!" Oikawa's enthusiasm makes you flinch. "I went there with Iwa-chan when we were kids!"

The name sits in your mind, but no face pops up. "I don't know who that is," you say awkwardly, "but I also went to that school."

"Wait," Oikawa looks to the right, to the left, then back to you, "So, we went to the same elementary school, but we didn't know each other?"

"I guess so."

His jaw drops, and you laugh at the obnoxious look he's making. "No way... That's weird."

"It's not a big deal."

"It is! Just think about it. We could've been friends back in elementary school before we met in high school. We could've had so many more memories together as kids growing up into teenagers and entering adulthood."

It's your turn to look around the cafe and contemplate. When you're done, you simply shrug your shoulders. "I think it's best that we didn't become friends in elementary school."

"What? Why not?"

"Because I hate you."

Oikawa's lips form a pout, and when he sees you cracking a smile, he joins you in on the laughter. "Right, I forgot."

"I hate you less now," you say, gesturing to the coffee and split cinnabon, "you know, because of this. It's actually really nice of you... Thank you."

Your words string something deep within him, making him feel warm, and it's all displayed for you to see when his face turns a light shade of pink. "It's no problem."

When you slide the plate over, Oikawa takes it as a sign to try his half of the cinnabon. He's had it before, but this time around, eating it feels like a new experience. Maybe it was because of your company, or maybe because the flavours from the pastry went well with his drink.

You also slide over your mug, beckoning him to try some of your coffee. He declines at first, then goes for the cup when he sees you waiting. The bitter liquid touches his tongue, making him cringe, but when the sweet aftertaste soothes his mouth, he can't help but go for another sip.

Grinning, he offers you his own drink. You immediately reject, knowing well that the hot chocolate would be too sweet for your liking.

"C'mon," Oikawa coos, "I tried your drink. Now you have to try mine."

"Fine," you mumble before bringing his cup to your lips and taking a sip. "It's alright I guess," you lick the sweet chocolate off your lips and slide his cup back, "but my coffee is better."

"You're right. The bun goes best with the coffee."

"Now, it's your turn to tell me about your family," you lean forward, resting your chin on top of your interlaced fingers, "You told me about your father before. Who else lives with you?"

"No one. It's just me and him," he leans on the edge of his seat, "I also have two older sisters, but they moved away for university a few years ago. Last time I saw them was during the winter holidays last year."

"Oh. You probably miss them."

"I do. But I totally understand why they chose to move. Our dad isn't the best person in the world," Oikawa sighs, not liking the subject of his father, "I also plan to move away for university. Not too far though, just in Tokyo and maybe get a place with Iwa-chan."

"I'm thinking of moving into the city for university too."

"No way," Oikawa smiles at the news, "Well, I hope that we're still close when it's time for us to go. We already missed elementary school together. Let's not miss anything else."

Feeling the sincerity in his voice, you let a smile pull at the corner of your lips. It's enough to make Oikawa's heart skip a beat. "Okay."

Light from the sunset pours in through the windows, lighting up the entire cafe. The air turns warm, and when you look around, you find people deep in their own conversation. Some of them laugh, some of them whisper, and some of them are even studying with their own friends.

It's a scene that makes you feel comfortable β€” at home, and Oikawa leans back in his chair, admiring the view sitting in front of him. He tilts his head slightly to get a better view of the sunlight hitting your eyes, making them shine ever so delicately.

When you feel him staring, you turn to face him. "Something wrong?"

"Come over to my place tonight." he says without hesitation, "I want you to show me what you like."

"I shouldn't," you say, hoping he wouldn't get the wrong idea, "I forgot about my brother last time and he ended up staying up all night waiting for me."

"Just this once." Oikawa pushes, "Spend one more night with me, please."

"I don't know."

"Please, Y/n." he brings his voice down, just enough for only you to hear, "I want to... make you feel good."

You look up at the ceiling. "What do you have planned?"

"It's not up to me," he reminds you, "I follow your rules for tonight."

His words are somewhat like music to your ears. "Okay," you respond, "Let's go."
