Bakugou had told Kou they were going out for dinner after they got their licences, saying something under his breath about 'not letting that stupid baldy win'. Kou didn't really know what he was talking about, but she wasn't one to turn down a hot meal.

"So where do you wanna eat?" she asks as they leave the dorms; he hadn't really said much about his plans.

"Where do you wanna eat?" he circles back, and Kou immediately shuts him down.

"We're not playing this game," she says, knowing that they'd just go around in circles for hours until they inevitably gave up and went home, "Just fucking pick a place!"

"You pick a place!" he yelled back, and the two stood in the front lawn arguing for another five minutes before Kou finally conceded.

"RAMEN!" She screamed, and Bakugou smiles victoriously. "Let's just eat at the ramen place I work at- I'm pretty sure I could get a free bowl if I ask my manager."

"Fuck no," he grabs her hand and starts walking, "We're not going to your shitty ass restaurant 1 hour away for dinner. I know a place nearby that's better."

Kou's ramen restaurant did have a reputation for giving their customers food poisoning...and sure, she'd killed more cockroaches than she cared to admit...and she might've seen a rat once in the kitchen...but her restaurant wasn't that bad!

"Whatever," she grumbled, weaving her fingers through his as they exited school grounds, "You better not disappoint."

__

A couple minutes later they arrived at their destination: a small ramen shop near their school. Bakugou said he'd been here a couple times before and it was good, so Kou decided to trust his taste (which usually wasn't too far off from her own).

They sat down at a table near the window, Bakugou taking the seat while Kou took the booth.

"What's good here?" She inquired, opening up the menu and looking through the items.

"Spicy Tonkotsu ramen."

Kou hums at that, skimming through the menu and almost dropping it when she saw the prices- it was more than double what her own restaurant charged!

Deciding not to make a scene and embarrass the both of them she stayed quiet, ordering that and a water when the waitress came. It was fine! She'd just pick up an extra shift or two at work...and never come back here again.

While the two waited for their meal Bakugou recounted what had happened during their remedial class while Kou was off having fun with the kids; she choked on her water when he did his impression of 'Glamouroki'.

"HAHAAHA!" Her laughter is loud and obnoxious, but it's nothing like the chainsaw hum of a laugh her friend has, "I WOULD KILL TO SEE THAT!"

The two of them make fun of their heterochromatic classmate for a couple more minutes, Bakugou handing her a napkin after she spilled water all over herself.

"You're such a fucking idiot," he chuckles, wiping cheek hastily and throwing the wet napkin in her face.

The food came shortly after, and Kou had to hold back her drool. She thanked the waitress, eyes not leaving the steaming bowl of ramen in front of her. It may put a deep irreversible hole in her wallet, but it was beginning to look like it would be worth it.

Kou digs in, practically inhaling the noodles and moaning rather loudly in pleasure. What the hell had she been eating her entire life before this? How could she ever go back to instant noodles after this?

Meanwhile Bakugou is staring at the girl in front of him, a mixture of vaguely concerned and highly amused. She ate like a goddamn animal, but he'd be lying if he said she wasn't cute while doing it.

"You're gonna end up choking if you keep that up, Kou-mi." he says as he slurps his own noodles, and the girl rolls her eyes.

"Whatever," she grunts, "This shit is fucking good."

Bakugou felt a weird sense of pride at that, chest warming at the thought that he'd brought her to a place she enjoyed- and before that stupid bald-headed prick too. Not that he'd ever give him the chance to go anywhere near her.

They eat their ramen in a comfortable silence for a couple minutes, both of them just enjoying the food and being with each other without any other responsibilities.

"Oh yeah," Kou takes a break from eating to sip on her water, "I'm going home this weekend; I'll be there Friday night to Sunday probably."

The blond hero freezes, looking up at her with a narrowed gaze. "No."

"What do you mean, no?" Kou laughs, "I have work to do."

Shinobu hadn't gone back home since the previous Friday when Bakugou and their other friends had stupidly come to visit her, and she knew that if she didn't go back soon there'd be questions.

This past week had been something like a vacation to her; no work, no Katsuro, no mom- but that also meant no Hiro and Machi. Kou felt like a selfish piece of shit for enjoying being at U.A. with Katsuki and her other friends when in the back of her mind she knew that meant her two siblings were alone with their parents or just with no adult supervision at all. She called them through the home phone everyday, but that wasn't enough. She had to go back.

"I'm not letting you go back there!" he snarled.

Kou scoffs, tired of his overprotective behaviour. "Katsuki, I was doing just fine before you knew about my family. I'm not going to fucking die if I go back home, you know?"

She had half the mind to tell him to mind his own business; that seemed to be her favorite line to use when she was put in a tough spot, but she knew that it would only cause a fight. Bakugou Katsuki didn't half-ass anything, and when he decided to stick his nose into something he wasn't leaving until he solved the problem.

But there was nothing to solve. There was no 'happy ending', no grand escape she could plan out, no one she could call to save the day. Life wasn't that simple. Kou was stuck in Roppongi until she turned 18 at the very least, and there was nothing she or anyone else could do about it. That's just the way life worked, at least for now. Why was Bakugou acting like he knew anything about it?

"Why would you even want to go back to that shithole in the first place?" he asked, exasperated and getting more and more annoyed as the seconds passed. Kou wants to laugh. He thinks she wants to go back home? He thinks she would actually want to go anywhere within a 10 mile radius of that place? She didn't have a fucking choice!

"Because my brother and sister are there?" she says, "What are you so uptight about?"

"After everything you told me why the fuck wouldn't I be?!" his voice is raising, and Kou finds herself matching his volume.

"I spent my entire life dealing with this shit on my own, Katsuki. Just because you've known about it for one week doesn't suddenly make you an expert on what I should or shouldn't do. What the hell do you know? Why the hell do you care so much anyways?"

Bakugou looks like he's ready to punch the girl in the face, not believing the fact that she even had to ask him that. " It's because I care about you, you idiot! I don't know what kind of fucked up friends you had before me, but I'm not the fucking crazy one in this situation!"

The other people sitting around them would beg to differ; the angry blond had made multiple people move away from their table in fear of the couple's rather...passionate argument.

Kou stares up at him, teeth clenching in annoyance. "It's none of your-"

"None of my business?" he chuckles darkly, "Are you fucking stupid? Did you not hear what I just fucking said? Why the hell would it not be my business if my friend was getting hurt? Give me one valid reason and I'll back off."

She paused. Was she really the one being unreasonable here? Was she the problem?

He cares about me. ..never in her life did Kou think she'd heard those words from anyone besides Daisuke and Hiro- but they were her brothers, they kind of had to care about her (unless you were a piece of shit like Gou).

Coming from Katsuki, she knew they meant a lot. The guy wasn't exactly the most emotionally intelligent, nor the most affectionate, so him even bothering to voice his feelings out loud must mean that he really meant it.

Kou knew if she were him in this situation that she'd act exactly the same. She cared about him too, and sometimes it scared her because he'd become such an important part of her life she forgot who she was sometimes. She forgot about her responsibilities, she forgot about her anger, she forgot about all the fucked up shit that happened- it felt like she had a chance at being normal when she was with him. The guilt that came with those kinds of feelings had her in a constant state of confusion; going back and forth between pushing him away and pulling him closer.

Kou didn't know much about feelings, or how to show another person she cared for them, or even what it was that she felt towards the boy in front of her exactly- but what she did know was that even if she felt like a selfish prick for wanting him by her side she still wasn't going to let go of him. Even if she didn't deserve him, even if it meant that she had to try that much harder to keep him around, she never wanted to go back to a time where he wasn't there with her.

So she tried. She tried to be better for him. She wasn't going to push him away this time.

Sighing, Kou tried her best to diffuse the situation before they both got kicked out. "Okay, okay, I understand."

Bakugou sits back down, a hopeful look in his eyes. "So you're not going home this weekend?"

"I still am." she says, ignoring the deadly glare on her, "But you don't have to worry about me! I'll be fine, I promise."

"Why do you never listen to me?" he grumbles. Bakugou was not used to giving a shit about other people, his concern coming off as way more aggressive than he intended. He just didn't want to see her hurt again- he'd never forget what happened outside her apartment; how broken she seemed, how useless he felt when he couldn't do anything to help her. Was it really that strange that he didn't want her around the same people who'd practically tortured her for her entire life?

Kou put her hand over his clenched fist on the table, looking him in the eyes with a quiet determination. "I can't just leave my siblings, Katsuki. I can't. I'll be fine- I always have been."

Bakugou sighs in defeat, knowing there was no arguing with her anymore.

"Besides," she says, "My parents are rarely ever home anyways. I'll probably just be stuck cleaning the entire weekend."

"Still not normal," he mutters under his breath, earning a kick in the shin from under the table.

"Shut up," she chuckles, and the two are back to normal- something everyone else at the restaurant was thankful for.

__

Bakugou had paid for dinner, despite Kou's fierce protests. When she'd asked him why he bothered getting the bill he only snootily replied, "Because I have more money than you, dumbass."

The two were now walking down the dark streets back to the dorms, going at a slower pace than normal since they weren't in a rush to make curfew. At some point their hands had found each other again, wordlessly weaving together. Kou had complained about the cold weather, which Bakugou solved by shoving her hand in his jacket pocket and emitting a toned-down version of his quirk- becoming her own personal space heater for the night.

As they walked Kou ranted about how Yoarashi had annoyed her all day, and Bakugou found himself listening to her more closely than he expected. He stared at the girl who'd come to mean more to him than anybody else he'd ever known: Bakugou didn't know a lot about feelings, or how to take care of someone, or even what he felt towards her exactly, but he did know that Kou was somebody he wanted to protect. He vowed to himself that he wasn't going to let her get hurt like that ever again- by anyone.

A/N: How long do you guys think they've been in love/loved each other? I'm genuinely curious bc like even I don't know lmaoooo 😭 wait actually what do you think of their relationship in general? My main goal of this story was for them to be like BEST BEST friends and like actually give a shit about each other outside of the romance so I hope I'm doing a good job of still making it...convincing? I don't think I'm making any sense lmao
