Β  Β I slumped against a wall after leaving the conference room, hanging my head low.

"I'm sorry Shota." I continued to stare at my hands, fiddling with my fingers. "I know I shouldn't have done that, but I did it anyway. I'm- fuck- I'm so fucking sorry."

His hand rested on my shoulder, "Hey, you did what I wanted to do."

I cocked my head at him, completely and utterly confused, my expression making him smile a little.

"Yes, you were explicitly told not to do that before the conference, yes, you did it anyway. But I know why you did it." He slid down next to me and I rest my head against his shoulder, "Although for a second I thought you were going to give the plan away."

I facepalmed, "sorry."

"You don't have to keep apologising."

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"You did it again."

"Sorry." I stopped and pulled back to look at him. "I don't think I can stop."

"You'll get there." He stood up and held out his hand, pulling me up. "Now let's go watch the League of Villains get taken down."

"Fuck yeah."

At that moment, my phone began to buzz in my pocket, I pulled it out and smirked slightly at the name.

"Do you want to take that?" Shota looked at me.

"Yeah, I'll find you in a bit." I turned down the corridor and picked up the call, making my way outside the building.

"Hello wife, how are you?" I answered the phone.

"Hello, husband, currently reeling from the UA press conference. I'd like names and addresses so I can beat a bitch."

"Daiki, I love you, but I'm not going to let you beat up a man just for asking a question. Even if it was slightly insensitive- but we move."

I heard furious clicking in the background and a slight groan of frustration.

"We move straight to his house, fists ready. I'm thinking we spray paint 'question this' on his car."

"I can't do that. Too much evidence pointing toward me, so stop trying to Google image search his face."

"Wha- I'd never do such a thing!"

"We both know you would. Come on, remember Jin?"

"What of it? The old lady got what she deserved, that being an angry Facebook post. Honestly." He sighed, "That shows her for giving you a 1-star review on Yelp."

"The woman comes into the cafΓ© every week, I'm pretty sure she didn't know what she was doing."

"And that's how they lure you in."

"Okay, got that off your chest now?"

"...yes."

"Did you call me to complain about reporter man?"

"...yes- and no actually! Good news-"

He stopped and muttered to himself.

"Ok reviewing the facts, not so good news but kind of good in a way? I'm not completely sure but-"

"Daiki, just tell me."

"Matt got the results back."

My heart began to pound in my chest, gradually growing louder in my ears. The beats steady yet quick.

"Who?"

Honestly, I think I know.

I think I've known all this time I was just too blinded by the idea that I could escape old memories that I did I want to acknowledge that nagging voice in the back of my head.

I could hear the voice echoing in time with my heart.

'Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you.'

'Fuck you. This is all your fault.'

And, as if on the same wavelength, we said it at the same time.

"Sawako."

Yuri's ex-ex-boyfriend.

The one who cheated on her and then had the audacity to beg for her back.

I knew he was an asshole, but going as far as burning down the block of flats I lived in? That was low. That was so fucking low.

Actually, it was more than low, it was a criminal fucking offence.

"Has the evidence been sent to the police?" I asked, leaning against a wall, my tone now completely serious, the usual jokey demeanour Daiki and I shared now engulfed by a sense of dread and pent up anger.

"As soon as Matt got the call he went straight to the station."

I fucking love my friends.

"Good." I nodded to myself, safe in the knowledge that the police couldn't deny the DNA evidence we know had. "You don't need to google image search that bastard." I scoffed.Β

"Trust me, Matt had to lock the bedroom door so I wouldn't go out and find him."

"I think I always knew who it was. Deep down, you know?"Β

"And you didn't say anything?"

"Well... Yuri..."Β

"Hun, that's the worse excuse I've ever heard. We both know that Yuri can cope with that information."

"I know but at the time I was just... I was just scared?"

I heard him sigh, "I wish I could hug you right now, but again, locked in the bedroom."Β

A light chuckle escaped my lips.Β

"Thank you, Daiki, for telling me. And for being ready to 'beat a bitch' just for me. That's real friendship."Β

"Of course babycakes, I'm here for you, always."Β

"Bye, wife."Β

"Bye, husband."Β
