"So is he on his way?" I asked my younger sister as I watched her put some things in her purse.

"Yes he should be here soon actually" she spoke excitedly.

"How do you feel about all of this?" I asked her.

My mother always showed Kamari old pictures that she had saved of her father so she had an idea of what he looked like, but pictures are way different from actually meeting him.

"I'm excited, I've always wanted to meet him" she smiled."Stop stressing it Kai, I'll be fine" She reassured me.

"I just don't want you to get hurt that's all, I can't stand him for leaving us the way that he did before" I shook my head.

"Maybe that's something that you have to address, you can't keep holding this grudge against him. At least give him a chance to explain why he left, that'll be good for you." She sighed.

"What are you, my therapist?" I laughed.

"No but I know how it feels to bottle things up, it doesn't make me feel good. That's why I'm always writing in my journal—when I write I release everything that's built up in my brain" she shrugged. "Look, you can choose to not like him all that you want but just talk to him...for closure" she suggested before her phone went off.

"He's here, I love you bye" She kisses my cheek before walking out of the house.

Who would've thought that my 15-year-old sister would be dropping jewels on me like that?

She was right though, eventually, I would have to face Jason. Growing up I blamed him for everything, I blamed him for me turning to the streets, and for my mom going into depression. If he stayed my mother would've been happy, and we would've been financially stable.

Jason and my mother took care of the bills and everything equally, so when he left it through everything off because my mother couldn't afford to pay everything off of just her check.

She started working many doubles after her maternity leave was up just so that we could get by. She'd already been dealing with postpartum depression, so with stress added onto that, she almost went crazy.

I realized that we were struggling and I decided that it was time for me to step up and help out around the house, I was never forced... I made that decision on my own.

To me, a lot of things could've been avoided if he would've just stayed.

"Hey baby" My mom greeted me as she walked into the house with grocery bags in her hands.

"Hey, Ma" I kissed her cheek before sitting at the bar as I watched her prepare dinner.

"Where's that sister of yours, did she leave yet?" She asked.

"Yea you just missed her."

"I could've sworn I told her ass to wash these dishes before she left" She shook her head. "So what's up? You eating dinner with me tonight?" She smirked.

"Of course, what are you cooking?" I asked as I tried to look through the bags but she smacked my hands.

"Don't be going through my things boy, ya ass might have that Rona" she playfully scrunched her face up.

"Oh wow, that's how you do Ma?" I asked in shock, her old ass really tried to play me.

"I'm just playing boy, I'm making some steak, corn on the cob, asparagus, Mac and cheese, shrimp, and some lobster" She spoke as she started to season the steak.

"Oh yea I'm definitely staying for dinner" I rubbed my hands together, there's nothing like a good home-cooked meal.

"So who's the young lady that's been getting all of my son's attention?" She asked.

"I don't know what you're talking about" I laughed.

"Oh please, you posted her on insta shot the other day" she waved me off.

"Yo what? You mean Instagram?" I cracked up because she was so damn serious.

"Boy, you know what the hell I meant, now who is she?" She asked.

"Her name is Harlym, and we're just fri- close friends" I shrugged.

"Harlym? That's pretty unique. Where is she from?" She asked.

"She's from LA"

"So how'd y'all two meet?" She asked.

"In school"

"Oh so she's in school, what does she major in?" She asked being nosy as hell.

"Damn nosy, she's majoring in Psychology"

"That's an interesting field, does she have any hobbies or things to do on the side?"

"Yea, she does hair actually"

"Well let me see a picture of her"

"I thought you said that you saw her on my Instagram?"

"Yea a picture of her head laid on your shoulder, that's about it" she shrugged.

"Let me check, I think I have a few pictures of her on my phone," I said as I went toy gallery.

"That ain't a damn few Kairo, I hope you ain't stalking the girl now"

"I ask for them and she sends them, or sometimes I take the pictures for her. Stop tryna play me man" I mugged her.

"She's a doll, when can I meet her pretty self" she smiled as she kept looking through her pictures.

"I don't mean no harm mom but if you keep scrolling you gon see some shit that you wouldn't want to see" I scratched my head.

"Boy stop cussing in my damn house, and hear take ya phone ole nasty ass little boy" She handed me my phone and went back to cooking.

"See you didn't have to say all of that Monica, call me when the foods ready" I walked out of the kitchen heading towards the living room.

"Aye Lil boy"

"Aye parlay" my mom laughed as she kept shaking me.

"Stop Ma" I groaned as I sat up before rubbing my eyes.

"Foods done, your plate is at the table so go wash your hands" she spoke before walking away.

After I washed my hands I sat at the table and immediately saw the love of my life. She sat there so effortlessly. Beautiful. Phenomenal. Amazing.
