"You ready baby? It's almost time to board the flight" My aunt asked as she woke me up from my nap.

"Yes, I'm ready" I yawned as I stood up to stretch.Β

"Okay, please call me when you land and don't hesitate to call if somethings wrong because you know I'll be on the next flight just to make it to you." She said before tightly hugging me.

"Okay Auntie, I will." I smiled as tears began to form under my eyes.

"Aht-aht, please don't cryβ€”I love you Harlym" She said.

"I love you too" I sniffled before grabbing my carry on bag and heading to the plane entrance.

I was returning back to my hometown Atlanta Georgia for college.Β  When I was 10, my aunt came and took me from my mother due to me being abused and mistreated. Throughout my years of living with my mother, I've seen and experienced a lot at a young age. I watched my mother take various of drugs along with alcohol to numb her pain, it was safe to say that she had a major addiction.

My life wasn't always that way, and my mother wasn't always a drug addict. My father's death was the cause of my mother's sudden change of life, he was killed on my 7th birthday.

Ever since his death she's had this sudden personal vendetta towards me.Β  She would get drunk and talk down on me, blame me for his death, and tell me that I wasn't worth anything.

Up until I was about 14, I blamed myself for my father's death.Β  I would get really depressed on my birthdays because it reminded me of him, so I rarely celebrated.

My Aunt Cassidy took me in at the age of 10, It was a hard responsibility but she still took it.Β  I make sure to show her appreciation everyday because she changed my life drastically.Β  IfΒ  I would've stayed in that environment with my mother, I probably would've been dead.

The plan was for me to stay with my aunt until my mother got back on her feet, but once I confessed to her about what all happened to me she immediately shut that down.

The rest of my childhood with my aunt was amazing, Slauson Ave knew me as "CeCe's Jit". Being that my aunt was the community's backbone, I was well known.

My aunt went to school for her business degree and now she owns 6 businesses throughout Los Angeles . Her goal was to provide for her community, she believed in empowering her people and culture.

She made sure to always embrace my beauty and ethnicity, it was very important to her that I accepted my culture. It helped a lot because before I moved with my aunt, I had insecurities.

I was always told that I was too dark, or not pretty enough because I wasn't as bright as other kids around me. At a young age that nonsense affected me mentally.

Aunt Cassidy also made it her duty to educate me on my culture and history because knowledge was power. Her wisdom and knowledge of our history paid off, because now I will be taking up African American Studies along with majoring in Psychology at Clark Atlanta University.

I quickly got a seat upfront before anyone else could, when this plane land I wanted to be one of the first ones off.

I did as told before plugging my AirPods in and playing Blue Laces 2 by Nipsey Hussle.

Mogul and they know that, logo on my floor mat
Courtside, Chamberlain throwback match my Rolex
Everywhere I go, flex, vallet park on some loc shit
Whole lot of smoke in that 'Rari, that thang potent
Burnin' rubber, wearin' cameras, they was undercovers
Under pressure, made statements, turned on they brothers
Never judge you but the streets'll never love you
I wonder what it come to you in your brain for you to run to
Ones that hate us, handcuff us and mace us
Call us dumb niggas cause our culture is contagious
Third generation South Central gangbangers
That lived long enough to see it changing
Think it's time we make arrangements
Finally wiggle out they mazes, find me out in different places
I'm the spook by the door, this the infiltration
Double back dressed in blue laces
