"Who's the pet?" I hear a woman say as she flounces down the stairs in a flowy pink dress that looks like it costs the same as my post-secondary education. Her hair is auburn and flows down her back in shiny, loose curls. I stare at her in surprise of her beauty.

"This is my girlfriend, Aurora," Maddox says, pulling me closer to him. I smile at her and hold a hand out for her to shake as she reaches us. She looks down at it in disgust before hesitantly taking it.

"I'm Vivian, so nice to meet you." She says sweetly but something about her seems off. I have no idea who she is but that question is answered when Peter moves closer to her and speaks up.

"Aurora, this is my fiancรฉe." He introduces and I nod, much less confused with the situation now, although Vivian does look much too young for Peter. I look up at Maddox to see his jaw is tightly clenched but I can't figure out why. He bristles when Vivian tries to give him a hug and he instead pulls me tighter.

"We'll be back in a bit," Maddox says lowly and pulls me and our bags up the stairs. When we get to where we're going, Maddox opens a door and pulls me into a dark bedroom. He throws the bags on the floor and while I'm looking around, he sneaks up behind me and turns me around to face him by placing his hands on my waist and spinning me.

I'm surprised when he bends down, sliding his hands down the sides of my legs, and all in one quick movement, he lifts me up as if I'm made of air. I wrap my legs around his hips and my arms around his neck, looking back into his eyes with a giddy smile on my face. I feel like what we're doing is forbidden, with his father, Vivian, and Mrs. Perez just downstairs.

He presses his lips to mine harshly, sucking on my lower lip and I kiss him back, mirroring his movements. A grumble leaves Maddox's throat when I use my legs to press him closer to me, feeling the bulge of his groin press in between my legs. I moan at the feeling of having him so close and open my mouth to allow Maddox to slip his tongue in.

We move with fervor, tongues clashing, bodies grinding. Maddox presses my back against the wall by the door to allow free use of his hands. His large, rough hands trail up my sides and settle on my aching breasts. I moan when he kneads them softly but stiffen when I hear a knock at the door. Maddox groans and sets me back down on the floor, leaving me in the same spot while he opens the door.

"Sorry if I interrupted, I was just sent up here by Peter to ask you to meet him in his study when you're settled. I can entertain Aurora while you do." I hear Vivian say from the other side of the door, but I can't see her from my position behind it.

"I swear to god if you try to scare her off..." Maddox trails off and I pout. They seem to have a lot of tension between them, mostly on Maddox's end. He takes in a deep breath and shuts the door in her face. Maddox gives me another soft peck on the lips, resting his hands on either side of my face against the wall.

"I'm sorry I didn't mention her. My dad and she had an affair. My mother knew. They broke up years ago," He elaborates and I nod.

"Why did they break up?" I ask and Maddox winces.

"I was seventeen and she was twenty-five and she tried to get me to fuck her. I told my dad that she was a slut trying to fuck his underage son and that was that. I can't understand why she's back here, engaged to him, but I don't really care. I'm going to go meet with my dad and then we're leaving. There's no way we're staying overnight with her here." I nod in understanding, trying to process this new information.

"I'll stay here?" I ask and he nods.

"Please. I don't know what she'll try to say to you but I'm scared that she'll make something up to scare you off." He presses his forehead to mine, looking vulnerable at this moment. I close my eyes and stay in this moment for as long as I can.

"I don't think anything could scare me off at this point. You're it for me." I say and Maddox stiffens, pulling back to look at me. His face is unreadable as his eyes dart around my face, looking for something. He relaxes after a couple of moments and pulls me into a heart-wrenching kiss that I feel down to my toes.

"You're it for me too, Princess."

After a couple of hours, holed up in Maddox's room, I feel my stomach start to growl and my bladder starts to pinch. I groan and roll out of his bed, making my way to the door that must lead to a bathroom. After finishing up in there, I open the door that leads to the hallway to see Mrs. Perez standing there, fist poised to knock, balancing a silver platter on one hand. My eyes widen and I smile at her.

"Miss Aurora, I brought your food up for you, you must be starving." She says and walks past me into the part of the bedroom with the couches and television. Mrs. Perez sets the platter down on the table in front of the couch and lifts up the lid.

"Thank you so much, I was starving," I say and make my way to the couch to sit and eat. Just as Mrs. Perez gets to the door, another knock is heard. She looks at me and I nod before she opens it.

"Lovely, you were just leaving," Vivian says, eyeing the lid of the tray. Mrs. Perez nods and I shout my goodbye across the room. She smiles and waves before exiting.

"May I join you?" Vivian asks, still standing just by the door and I nod reluctantly, not wanting her in my company but also not wanting to be rude. Hopefully, Maddox will come back soon so that we can leave.

I stay silent, taking bites of my food while Vivian comes to join me on the adjacent couch, sitting as close to me as possible. She watches me for a few more moments before speaking up. "So how long have you two been dating?" She pries and I bite my lip. I wish that we had been dating for a longer amount of time just so that I could tell her a different answer.

"Just for a few days." I smile and look back down to my food. The awkward silence is killing me but I don't want to open up a conversation with Vivian to clear it either.

"Oh, so you two are still new, how I miss the honeymoon stage of my relationship." She sighs wistfully and I purse my lips and nod, not really understanding what she's getting at. "Just be careful. It doesn't last forever. Especially with boys like Maddox." She digs and I feel my patience slipping. I don't usually get angry but after what Maddox told me about Vivian, she gets under my skin.

"I'll worry about that, thank you though." I fake a smile, trying to figure out how to get her out of the room. This woman seems put together on the outside, but from what Maddox told me about her, and her obvious prying into our new relationship, she obviously has issues.

"Just saying. Boys like him get distracted easily." She trails off and I try not to roll my eyes. I know what Maddox was like, and I may not be the girl to change him forever, but so far, he has given me no reason not to trust him, so that's what I'll do until I'm given a valid reason not to, I won't go looking for one. I won't be the one to self-sabotage this relationship with Maddox who makes me so happy. When I said that he was "it" for me, I meant it.

"I don't think you really understand how 'boys like Maddox' work so I'll tell you. Boys like Maddox were loved and then abandoned, so they find other ways to receive love, whether that be from sex or attention. Boys like Maddox think they need to keep everyone at a distance but they realize that that only hurts them more and friendship is what they really need. Workaholic fathers and sexually abusive stepmothers aren't the answer to his problems. Boys like Maddox get distracted when the object of their attention isn't benefiting them mentally in any way. When the desire turns from physical to mental and emotional, that's when their attention begins to stick. Maybe you should get to know Maddox instead of trying to break up his relationships and screw him over in every possible way." I say and walk confidently over the bed, grab our bags, and walk out of the room.

Just as I'm walking down the stairs to find Mrs. Perez, I see Maddox and his father exiting a room off to the left and I smile. He looks from me to our bags, then up to a probably furious Vivian who I can hear stomping down the stairs behind me. Maddox smirks and takes the bags from me.

"We're done here." He says and I agree. In every sense of the word.ย
