Otto had a little under three weeks until she was forty weeks pregnant, although that is a load of bullshit.

Babies don't magically come out that day, oh no, that would be far too convenient. They come when the decide to come, day or night. Usually at the most inconvenient time is when they decide to make their big entrance.

At her last appointment, before her dad died the doctor warned her that first pregnancies tend to go on for longer, which was music to Otto's ears.

That's exactly what she wanted to hear.

She was going to be pregnant for more time!

That morning she was especially grumpy, she had another appointment. She had missed a lot over the course of her pregnancy, she'd maybe been to half a dozen.

Getting out of bed was a chore, despite having two rooms it was a silent agreement that they stilled shared the bed.

It was a weird unspoken thing, but somehow they both just knew it.

It obviously started the day her dad died - the night they had sex did not count - but since then it just never stopped. And neither of them particularly wanted it to stop.

JJ tried to remind himself that all Otto wanted was friendship. A very strange, intimate friendship that included sleeping right next to each other, practically on top of one another, every night.

And Otto tried to remind herself the same thing, it was just a friendship.

Platonic. Completely platonic.

JJ got out of bed early, it was strange to him that once he gave up all substances he was suddenly a morning person. Something he truly was not before.

Otto was still not a morning person, despite not having any substances in her.

She lied there, on her side but trying to shove her face into the pillow. Half trying to suffocate herself.

Having a baby was a stupid idea.

Pregnancy is fucking inconvenient.

She couldn't snort a line when she felt like shit (she actually had to feel it,) she couldn't drink, she couldn't take a hot bath, or eat sushi and worst of all she couldn't sleep on her stomach.

If someone told her that she might’ve reconsidered.

"Tillie, you have to get out of bed."

"Don't tell me what to do, J. My back hurts like it's trying to break itself. I'm never getting out of bed, ever again."

"I am not above throwing cold water onto you."

She sat up at that, not worried she just wanted to scold him. She hadn't thought it through, his attempt had worked.

"If my back didn't hurt so much I'd be impressed, but it does so I'm annoyed."

JJ took that as a win, he hardly ever impressed Otto. He watched her stand up, he'd offer to help but every knew it'd get thrown back in his face. She fundamentally hated help, she wanted to be independent.

She got ready and JJ sat at the kitchen counter just looked around at his home, he actually lived here. He even moved his limited things. He had asked Otto if he could and she rolled her eyes, "you live here" she reminded him.

It was strange, he was use to rusty sinks that either poured out nothing or brown water.

He was use to cupboards with door half falling off, the paint peeling off the wood.

He was use to a house that smelled musty, he was so use to it that when he walked into the Moreau house, or now the granny flat, he was amazed at how good it smelt. It smelt like clean, fresh laundry, and something ever so slightly sweet.

The sofas he was use to had so many stains it was almost a polka dot pattern, but the sofa sitting in the small - by rich people standards - living room has pristine.

Everything was strange and would get some time to get use to, that is if he ever got use to it.

JJ was waiting for Otto to tell him she was screwing with him, and take back everything. The baby, the strange friendship, the granny flat. All of it.

But she didn't. She wouldn't.

When he opened the fridge expecting a half eaten can of baked beans and a three day old take away he was stunned at the contents. Colourful fruits and vegetables lined the top, then there was meat and dairy, and finally shit he couldn't place.

He closed it and went over to the fruit bowl that sat on the granite counter top, he pulled off a banana and began to eat it.

Otto walked out, dressed in an jumper and coat and some stretchg trousers.

"You all good?" Hd asked.

"No. I am going to cut the baby out my stomach Twilight style if I have to be pregnant for like two more months."

"What does Twilight style entail?"

"Another word of the day?"

"No. I actually knew that one. Back to the original questions."

"Vampires, teeth, baby, bleeding out but it's okay because she got turned into a vampire."

"Considering both me and you aren't vampires there is a hole in that plan."

"Let a girl dream would you?"

He drove them to the office and the pair walked inside, judgemental eyes still followed them. Otto was too annoyed to care.

After telling the receptionist they were their they sat down, "You good?"

"The answer is still no JJ, and it will continue to be no until the baby is out and no longer leaching off me like a parasite."

He nodded, deciding not to ask that question anymore.

"You should've gone over to the Chateau." Otto said, looming over at him.

"You have so little faith in me. But I'll be heading over there this afternoon, you're welcome to come. But if you want to stay home I will."

She nodded, she actually did have faith in him. She knew he'd come to the appointment and she knew he'd stay at the granny flat if she asked him.

He was a good person, and she liked him.

That afternoon JJ went over to the Chateau and Otto tagged along, her mood had improved slightly as her back had stopped hurting so badly.

Sadly, they were all getting ready to get on the boat, not only would the extra person - Otto - make the boat more cramped that it already was, which was very cramped, she would probably fall off due to her centre of gravity being thrown off.

"Go. I'll be fine here." She told JJ as he stayed back, the group getting ready to leave.

"It's fine, I want to stay with you."

"J, if you don't get on the damn boat I will kick you out."

"You can't kick me out, it's my house."

"You don't want to mess with me right now. Get. On. The. Fucking. Boat."

He raised his hands and walked over to the boat, and with that they left.

Otto sat down at one of the seats, it was too hard to get out of her safety haven. She scrolled through her phone, replying to a few messages from her mum on how the appointment went.

It was fine, boring, more of the same. "You are, in fact, pregnant. Very, very pregnant!" And "Make sure you're preparing for the baby!" Or something else that was kind of common knowledge.

Maybe it was because they were young, and JJ was a little clueless.

Yes, he was still asking questions that would've been covered in sex ed, had he gone to that. Which Otto would bet the granny flat on him not going.

He'd just say "it looked boring."

Perhaps if he'd gone they wouldn't have been sat in that office. Otto was glad he didn't go.

She couldn't wait for the baby to be out, be she also dreaded the part were the baby came out. It really didn't look like it was any fun. She wanted to be as drugged up as the night JJ and her met.

JJ found the kicking creepy, and if she was being honest Otto wasn't all that fond of it either, while it was kind of relieving if it kicked after not moving for a while, it had a funny habit of trying to break her ribs.

She had begun to decided that she was never, ever, ever getting pregnant again. This baby had to deal with being an only child.

Both Otto and JJ were only children, so it bad a fifty fifty chance of being okay, and that was enough for her.

Plus, it wasn't going to grow up like JJ did so the odds were definitely in favour of a semi-functional child.

They were gone for hours, the sun had gone down behind the clouds and Otto was getting sick of waiting. Yes, she kinda forced JJ to go, but she hadn't realised it was going to be a full day affair.

Otto decided to go home. JJ grew up in the Cut, he'd get home just fine.

Thankfully JJ had given her the keys before he left so she fished them out of her pocket and headed home.

And once she was home her mum was at the counter, "I haven't seen you in a few days, how are you?"

Otto rounded the corner, "I'm going alright, decided I'm never having another child. This shit is awful." Laura half-heartedly glared at Otto for cursing, although she didn't really care.

"Why do you think I only had you? And where's JJ?"

"Because dad got cancer. And he went out on the boat, he hasn't come back so I assume they're going to be a while and I'm tired so I came home."

"Okay. That is a good point, and the majority of the reason. But being pregnant wasn't all it's cracked up to be."

"Amen to that. I'm going to bed, I love you.

Laura kissed her daughter's cheek and Otto walked out the back-door and down to the at.

She quickly got ready for bed and practically flopped into it.

It took her a lot longer than usual to fall asleep, no one was running their hand through her hair. But eventually she dropped off.

The people that followed Sarah and John B were back.

At first they didn't notice, boats are always on the water so they just assumed it was another boat taking the same route as them.

But when they veered off to a pretty desolate part of the island that people don't really tend to go to, especially the Kook's, and looming at the boat JJ knew it was expensive.

When Pope pointed it out they all decided to test the theory, they took a few left turns that didn't lead anywhere.

They followed them.

And when the other boat turned around the symbol was printed right on the side.

"Shit. I'm really not allowed to die." JJ mumbled.

"Otto would find a way to resurrect you to slowly torture and kill you again." Pope said under his breath to JJ.

His words were true, Otto would spend her entire life to find a way to resurrect people just so she could kill JJ again.

"What are we meant to do?" John B asked, sounding a little desperate.

Everyone was silent for a little while, "We try to lose them, find somewhere to dump the boat and make a run for it." Kie said.

"They'd see us running." Sarah poked holes in the idea.

"We go into somewhere thick, somewhere we know at least a little, we run somewhere and hide. Even if they try to find us they'll struggle. Then tomorrow we walk home." Pope suggested, no one else had any other plans, and Pope was the smartest one in the group, so they knew it was their best shot.

John B sped up as fast as the boat would let him, he decided to take it somewhere only stupid Pogues tended to frequent.

It was shallow, and there was thick brush either side of them which scratched the edges of the boat. That would slow the stalker/kidnappers/probably murderers down enough for them to make a break for it.

As soon as the boat him the sand everyone jumper out and made a break for it into the thick bushland. There was only a hint of a path, one that the group had only been through once.

But once was better than nothing.

They sprinted like someone was following them, which was completely appropriate considering someone was actually following them.

The group ran for half an hour, JJ leading the group by coincidence, which was good because he had actually been there twice and had found a small cave that they could cover.

After running around for ten more minutes looking for it, as he wasn't exactly sure where it was (he didn't tell the group this) he found the cave.

Everyone jumped inside, it was barely big enough for the group to sit in, but not tall enough for the group to stand in. He pulled sticks and fallen leaves over the hole and they stayed silent.

Hours went by, through the small cracks in the sticks and leaves that covered them they could see the sun set and fall behind the trees. The moon rose.

JJ was so glad Otto didn't come, they'd be extremely screwed.

He wouldn't say it to her face but she couldn't walk quickly if someone had a gun to her head.

But he also worried that she not only stayed at the Chateau but was scared at where he was.

She wasn't at the Chateau.

And she was fast asleep without the slightest worry.

Well, maybe the smigiest hint of a worry.

No one slept, they were all far too stressed to do that. Plus with the cramped conditions it'd be virtually impossible.

The group gingerly slide off the cover, they hadn't heard the stalkers/kidnappers/probable murderers at all, not a shout or crunch of a foot.

JJ was the first time yet out and the rest followed behind him.

None of them had the faintest clue on where the Chateau was, so JJ decided he'd just pretend and figure it out as they went.

"It's this way." He said with confidence. If you say something with confidence, even if you have no clue, people tend to believe you.

Without questioning it they followed him.

But by the time the sun was beginning to set and they could finally see the Cut, and it was a days walk away they knew he was lying.

"You lied?" Sarah asked, sounding exasperated.

They were all covered in sweat, dirt and mud and littered with scratches.

"No one else knew, so I took an educates guess. Plus, it made everyone a little less stressed, I don't see how that's a bad thing." JJ shrugged.

"If we walk all night we can probably make it by morning." Pope said, sounding tired. Both physically and mentally.

Pope decided he'd lead this time.

The group, sans JJ, decided that was the best idea.

They made it by morning, almost two days since they went boating. Sarah and John B surveyed the Chateau after everyone went home and decided it was safe.

JJ dreaded going into the flat. He could tell Otto was home because her car was in the drive.

He pulled open the heavy wooden door and walked inside.
