❝Two people with smiles carved in their faces. Literally.❞

β™

Β  Β Β  PARIS WAKES UP with a mild headache and finds herself still wearing her clothes she was wearing out yesterday. She must've slept in as soon as she got home since it was a very eventful day yesterday.

She gets ready for school and by the time she got outside, Damon is on their porch.

Paris wears a confused look as to why Damon is at their house. She closes the door behind her and approached the pissed vampire.

"What's going on?" Paris asked.

"Council duty. I'm here to get your sister." Damon replied.

Paris rolls her eyes in annoyance since he didn't answer her question with clarity.

"Why?" She asked.

Damon pushes his eyebrows together in aggravation since, in fact, his morning started quite violently. He sighed before he turns to walk away and towards his convertible. "Come on." He said while he did.

"But---" Paris cuts herself off while she decides whether to go to school or go with Damon. But of course, supernatural predicaments overpower the normal ones. So with that, Paris made her decision.

Paris approaches the car and quickly climbed inside. She finds Damon talking to his phone, who turns out to be her sister.

"Let's just say someone's asking us to smile more." said Damon before he hung up.

Damon glances at her and double-checked if she's ready to go before he starts the engine, pulls out from the driveway and made their way to the Mystic Falls Hospital.

β™

The two of them just arrived at the hospital and Paris could not be any more confused about what's going on. The ride all the way here was so quiet and since they aren't really on good terms at the moment, they decided against making conversation.

Paris sees the number of police cars also parked outside the hospital and it only sparked her curiosity even more.

They made their way inside the hospital and Paris notices the hysterical reactions from all the people inside, whether patients, nurses or doctors.

"Paris? What are you doing here?" Alaric said as soon as he saw Damon coming with Paris.

"What's happening?" The clueless Paris asked. Ric's eyes flickered to Damon and he just shrugs.

Ric just rolls his eyes before turning back to Paris to answer her question.

"Last night, two murders took place here. There were no witnesses and no evidence yet." Ric stated.

Paris's eyes widened due to the new information. She glances to the ward near them and sees its floor stained with blood. Paris got goosebumps and she unknowingly hugged herself.

"Is there anything that could lead us to who did it? A clue of some sort?" Paris asked.

Damon slightly smiles at Paris's response, knowing that she still has her Sherlock personality.

"There is in fact. Liz told me that both victims had cuts at both sides of their mouths." Ric explained.

Paris's confused look is suddenly replaced by an alarmed one as she finds it quite familiar and realizes that she heard it only from one person.

"I think I know who's responsible for this." Paris said.

β™

"And then he asked me, 'What is a vampire's favorite ice cream?' I said 'what?' And you know what he said?" Said Lucien as he tells the compelled women a story about a human whom he had hated before.

"Veinilla. And with that, he lost his tongue." He added and laughs along with the clueless women.

A knock is suddenly heard at the door and it tore Lucien's attention away from the ladies. He glances at the door and rolls his eyes before he excuses himself to answer the door.

He opens the door and it revealed a pissed Alaric, an annoyed Damon, and a disappointed Paris.

The older vampire furrows his eyebrows as he wonders what the sudden visit is for.

"Well, well. What is it that led you to my doorstep?" Lucien asked.

Lucien looks clueless as he stands there with a huge grin, pleasantly surprised about the fact that they paid him a visit.

"Two people with smiles carved in their faces. Literally." Damon replied.

The huge grin he was wearing instantly faded away as soon as he heard what Damon said. It is now replaced with a displeased one that almost scared Paris.

"What?" Lucien said with a deep voice that gave Paris goosebumps since she knows that he wouldn't be too happy if he had known that she told other people the story that he trusted her with.

"Two patients are found dead in the Mystic Falls Hospital. What caught our attention is that the killer went out of his way to cut the sides of their mouth to resemble a smile. Surely you understand that, right?" Alaric explained.

Lucien clenches his jaw and shifts his gaze to from Alaric, to Damon and Paris. He maintains his gaze at Paris as he said, "And what gave you the idea that I have a part in it?"

He said that while looking at a regretful Paris, wishing that she hadn't told them what he told her. He keeps telling himself that Paris would never do that, even though he had known her for only a few days, he knows that Paris wouldn't be capable of betraying someone.

"Well, you did experience that yourself, didn't you Castle?" Damon said, pretending like he doesn't know about it.

"I did, Salvatore. And it wasn't pleasant." Lucien snarled at Damon.

He glances at Paris, who looks down at her feet to avoid eye contact, and his gaze softened but not enough to discard the angry look on his face.

"You told them?" Lucien asked. Paris looks up to meet the hurt that Lucien has in his eyes and it made her feel bad.

"I had no choice... you're killing innocent peo----"

"You really think that I'm responsible for this?" Lucien said as soon as he cuts her off.

The hurt in his eyes is visible as Paris felt bad for betraying him when she's the only one he feels comfortable with.

When Paris didn't reply, Lucien smile sadly before responding.

"Of course you do." He said, not taking off his gaze at Paris, but when he did, he shifts his gaze between Damon and Alaric and said, "But I assure you, you've got the wrong man. I will not take credit for those murders." Lucien said.

"And why should we believe you?" Damon asked with a frown.

"Because you're going to need me if you want to catch the real culprit."

β™

"I'm sure Nik predicted this very moment! No one knew of that... ordeal other than him, Tristan and I. I was told Tristan is in another continent, therefore unable to perform such ridiculous theatrics." Lucien defended.

As soon as Liz arrived at Lucien's residence, he compelled the ladies to forget and leave so that they could continue their business inside.

"Why are we trusting him exactly?" Asked Liz when she turned to Damon and Ric. Then she glances at Paris before she glances back at the two men. "And what is Paris doing here? You two know better than to let Paris be dragged into all of this." she added.

"She needed to know so she doesn't have to question everything we do to keep her safe." Ric responded.

"She's eighteen." Liz clarified.

"And undeniably stubborn." Damon added.

"I'm standing right here." Paris reminded them and they all look at her while she wears an aggravated expression and her arms crossed against her chest.

"I think we should focus on the situation at hand." Paris said.

"Yes. So that you can all stop ravaging my day." Lucien replied.

Damon looks back at the oldest vampire in the room and said, "You're in Mystic Falls. It's fond of ruining people's days. You'll get used to it soon enough, Castle."

"Thanks for the tip, Salvatore."

"Why do you guys keep calling each other by your last name?" Ric asked, a bit annoyed.

"It's fun." Damon smirked. And so did Lucien after he said, "I agree."

"And I will snap your necks if we get off topic one more time," Paris warned.

Damon, Ric, and Lucien avert their eyes from the brunette and keep themselves from opening up unrelated topics.

A phone rang and they realized it's Liz's. She quickly answers the call and puts the phone on her ear.

Since Lucien and Damon have the benefit of having supernatural hearing, Paris and Ric have to wait for Liz to end the call for them to find out what they're talking about.

As soon as Liz hung up, they immediately asked her.

"Is it about the murders?" Paris asked.

Liz hesitated to tell an eighteen-year-old girl the situation of the case but it isn't even a normal case to begin with therefore she doesn't feel too uncomfortable bending the rules.

"The result of the autopsy will be sent to me in a short while. As well as the DNA that they got from the crime scene." Liz informed them.

"They got a DNA?" Ric asked. Liz simply nodded.

"There we go. Now I can prove that I have nothing to do with this nonsense." Lucien said.

Liz's phone rang once more indicating that the message has been sent to her. She immediately opened the file and furrows her eyebrows at the autopsy results.

"So?" Damon asked.

"The results said that the two victims were strangled. And only after that did the murderer carve a smile on both their faces. Which makes no sense, why would someone do that after they murdered them?" Liz said.

All of them wore a confused look, well except for Lucien, who's waiting to tell them 'I told you so' once they find out that he didn't do anything wrong.

"And the DNA?" Damon asked.

Liz continues to scroll at her phone before she responded.

"Well, the DNA belongs to..." Liz trails off as she narrows her eyes and furrows her eyebrows as she reads the results in her phone. "That can't be right." She added.

"Why?" Ric asked.

Liz glances up from her phone and looks at all of them with a troubled expression before she replied.

"It belongs to Paris."
