❝It's fine, really. But yeah, I do. But considering that I now know how dangerous this world is, being a human isn't the best option for me right now.❞

Β  Β Β  DAMON SPEEDS over in front of Paris to prevent her from getting far. This is bad. This is beyond bad. She knows everything and she's freaking out.

"No, please! Don't hurt me..." Paris trailed off and his heart ached at the image before him. Because of him, he broke her. Tears continue to stream down her face and she starts to sob.

It's painful for Damon to see Paris like this. At first, he wanted to compel her to forget everything again. But he knew that even though how many times they try to hide the truth from her, she would eventually find out and he could not bear the thought of having to see Paris as broken as she is right now.

So, instead of compelling her to forget, he brought her back her memories.

"Remember everything." Damon compelled her.

The young brunette blinks a couple of times to regain herself from being compelled. Memories of her being kidnapped by Klaus twice, and her being with Damon, start to rush back into her head with slight pain.

After a couple more seconds, she glances at the vampire before her still with her face damp with her tears. "Why didn't you compel me to forget?" Paris asked.

She still has fear written across her face while a hurt expression covers Damon's. "You're in even more danger when you know nothing. At least this way, you would know how dangerous this world is and how you need to be careful of what's to come." Damon just said.

Paris starts to calm down but she never lets her guard down as she stands in front of the vampire.

"I have to go." Paris mumbled. The young brunette begins to walk away but Damon wanted her to stay so he could help her.

"Paris--"

"No. I need to be alone right now." Paris said, not allowing Damon to speak anymore. She spares the vampire a glance and he averts his eyes from her as he tries to keep himself from disappointing her even more.

Paris then looks away and starts to walk home.

As the young lady walks home, she can't take her mind off of the things that she has discovered. The scary stories that her parents once told her about, is actually not a myth. It's real. Very real considering that she has one of those monsters standing right in front of her just a couple of minutes go.

But is he a monster though? Paris feels conflicted about the whole situation. If he's a monster, why treat her with such kindness?

"I guess not all monsters do monstrous things." Paris muttered to herself. She distantly looks in front of her while she lets herself drown in the sea of her thoughts. She recalls the times she had spent with Damon. How they would always tease and make fun of each other.

How she would sometimes laugh at Damon's sense of humor, even though she finds it quite annoying. She actually felt comfortable around him. But then she realizes, it's all part of the compulsion. She was able to feel comfortable around him because he compelled her to calm down and not be scared of him.

The cold breeze of the night passes through her and she immediately hugs herself as she shivers. The tranquility of her surroundings made her feel at ease and relaxed, but it was cut short. She can't shake the feeling of someone watching her.

She looks behind her in search of the one watching her but saw nothing. She continues to look around but only to scold herself for being paranoid since she saw no one.

She once again looks ahead of herself and starts walking until she finally reaches her home.

Once she's inside, a certain raven-haired vampire comes out of the shadows and sighs before he leaves to get home after making sure that the young brunette gets home safely.

"You did what?!" Meredith shrieked at Damon. He had asked the others to come to the Salvatore Boarding House to inform them about Paris's current situation.

"It's best for her this way." Damon said. But as expected, Meredith needs much more convincing.

"Best for her how?" Meredith asked. Alaric, Stefan, Elena, Caroline, Bonnie, Jeremy, and Matt only stood there as they watch the exchange happen between Damon and Meredith.

"If we keep her in the dark, she won't be able to protect herself!"

"It's not her job to protect herself, it's mine!"

"And how's that working out for you?"

The room fell silent at Damon's words. Some of them actually agree with Damon, but what they're most concerned about is how Paris is handling all of this.

"Besides, even if I compelled her to forget, she would always find out. It's not my fault your sister's a descendant of Sherlock." Damon said. Meredith finally gives up and sighs in defeat.

Everyone in the room actually knows how determined Paris is when it comes to finding out the things she doesn't understand. It's what makes her, her. They've suggested to just compel Paris to stop investigating about anything related to them but they later figured that it's too much of a risk since she would notice how much she's changed and would once again drive her crazy.

"Meredith, Damon's right. Paris is too innocent for her own good." Caroline spoke up.

"This way, she's aware of the danger and she doesn't have to get hurt again." Elena added. Meredith looked back and forth between the brunette and the blonde before she looked back at Damon.

"I want her to have a normal life." Meredith just said. Damon's forehead creases at her response as he realizes that someone as normal as Paris will always be dragged into something she doesn't expect.

"Normal is overrated." Damon only replies.

The front door opens and it reveals Tyler Lockwood. "What'd I miss?"

"So generations of founding families, including ours, have had this secret?" Paris said. After school, Paris and the others went straight to the Salvatore's after receiving a text from Meredith.

"Yes." Meredith answered. Paris nods slowly as she absorbs the information then she glances at the younger Salvatore.

"And you killed two of our ancestors?" Paris bluntly said, taking Stefan by surprise.

"Honoria and Thomas Fell. You have to understa----" but Paris cuts him off since she didn't really need an explanation.

"It's okay. You don't have to explain yourself." Paris said, earning a small smile from the blonde Salvatore.

She turns to look at the rest of the group where they continue to give small smiles to make her feel comfortable but in reality, it was making her feel a bit awkward.

"What's it like? Being a vampire?" Paris asked, her question directly towards Stefan and Caroline. But Damon took it upon himself to answer.

"Well---"

"I wasn't talking to you." Paris snapped. Even though Damon gave her back her free will , doesn't mean that she'll forgive and forget about how he abused it first.

She spares Damon a glance when she said that and he only throws his hands in the air a sign of defeat. She looks back at the two blonde vampires and gestures for them to answer her question. The two vampires look at each other with uncertainty in their eyes before one of them finally spoke up, that being Stefan.

"At first, it was horrible. All of our senses are heightened. Our emotions were all over the place. The strong craving for human blood." Stefan said, recalling the moment he had turned into a vampire.

"But when we finally get to control it, it's... euphoric. The speed that we have, the strength, the immortality. But of course, we cannot deny the fact that we have done things that we're not proud of. So I guess you can say that it's a more of a curse than a blessing." Caroline added.

Paris imagines what it must feel like being a vampire. Being able to have incredible speed. Being able to compel others into doing something. Be immortal. But what she can't imagine, is drinking human blood. The thought of it made Paris shift uncomfortably in her seat since the vampires that crave the most is running through her veins.

"Do you miss being human?" Paris asked. Her curiosity is swallowing her. Whenever a question pops into her mind, she would immediately ask it without even thinking if it was a good idea.

The uncomfortable look on their faces was enough to make Paris guilty. "I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking straig---"

"It's fine, really. But yeah, I do. But considering that I now know how dangerous this world is, being a human isn't the best option for me right now." Stefan said.

"That's why you have to be careful. We agreed to let you in on this so that you would be aware of things that may cause you harm." Alaric said from beside her. Paris glances at the man that's like an older brother of hers and smiles genuinely.

"How exactly am I going to defend myself against creatures that are a hundred times faster, stronger and older than me?" Paris asked all of them.

"Ric here is going to teach you 'How to Kill a Vampire 101'" Damon said wearing his usual smirk while his arms are crossed against his chest.

"Ooh, that would come in handy when a certain obnoxious, blue-eyed vampire annoys me." Paris said, sending a sarcastic remark towards Damon, making the others try to hold back their laughter as they realized who Paris was talking about. But Damon, being Damon, throws back.

"Hey! Carebear isn't that obnoxious." Damon said earning an eye roll from Paris and a glare from Caroline.

"I'm pretty sure she was referring to you, ass." Caroline said. Damon furrows his eyebrows and brings his other had to his chin as if he's thinking of something deeper.

"Is she? Hmm... Yeah, I don't think so." Damon replied and once again, Caroline shoots him a glare that only made Damon smirk.

Paris smiles at the little quarrel the two had with each other but that smile suddenly disappears when a voice in her head appeared, wanting her to do something. The scary thing is, she can't resist it.
