Luis Flores

๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—™๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€ siblings all sat around the room in silence, chained by tight metal bolts to their chosen wall, forbidding them from moving, standing or doing anything but speak. Kaci was still resting on the floor, though. Paralysed. Any movement she once had in her body was gone.

Jordan didn't take his eyes off Luis, who was rocking the baby peacefully and acting as calm as possible. He almost didn't believe that his big brother was really alive. He felt like that if he allowed himself to blink, when he opened his eyes again, Luis would be gone. He'd still be dead.

But he wasn't. Luis Flores was alive. Truly.

His eyes then switched over to Kaci for a short moment. Jordan was terrified. He didn't know if he'd survive, nor did he know if his siblings would, if his nephew would. Only one month ago, he would've never imagined himself in a situation like this, but now it was his reality.

"Luis, how are you here?" the youngest boy spoke, voice quiet, though it echoed and bounced off the cold, white walls of the small room they found themselves trapped in.

Glancing back up at him, a soft, brotherly look in his eye, Luis sighed. He held Kaz in his arms still, careful to hold him securely and keep him safe. "It was a few months after Big John Routledge went missing," he began, his voice smooth as ever. "I was starting up as an intern with Ward Cameron that Autumn, and he and Dad weren't on good terms at all."

Jordan looked back over to Kaci. He kept checking on her every few moments, hoping for some sort of improvement, but she was still frozen. Pale and blue, almost dead.

"Ward was like an uncle to me โ€” to all of us โ€” growing up," the other boy went on. "So, when I started to notice him and Dad arguing a lot, it got me curious." He shook his head, lifting one hand off the baby to brush it over his hair. "Looking back on it, I was stupid โ€” it's my fault I was caught. But, like I say, I was curious. So, one night when they were arguing, I hid behind a wall to listen through the crack of Wardสผs study door." He sighed again, looking back up to Jordan, who seemed almost scared of what he was about to hear. "Dad was angry with him, really angry. Ward was starting to feel guilty about what he did to Big John โ€” how he killed him for the gold, and โ€”"

"Yeah, we know that part," Jordan told him, cringing and not wanting to go into those details again.

Luis nodded. "Right, well, Ward was starting to get sloppy, and, naturally, Dad didn't like it. I heard him threaten Mr Cameron โ€” he said that if one word got back about that boat trip, he'd kill Rafe, Sarah and Wheezie."

Jordan gulped, not having heard this part before.

"That was when he saw me, through the crack of the door," said Luis, eyes falling down into a dark look. "He took me, dragged me out into the night and locked me in the storage unit. He was my dad, I begged him for help, but โ€”" He shrugged. "โ€” Everytime I spoke, everytime I cried, he'd strike me. With a knife. I was one day away from death, before..." Confusion took over Luisสผs face. "...Before Ward found me. He shipped me off in a plane with a bunch of security, and I've been here ever since."

Jordan nodded, hugging his legs close to his chest in attempt to keep warm. He hissed in pain as his knee hit against the open wound on his stomach.

Luis nodded to him, gesturing to Kaci on the floor. "What about you guys? โ€” how did you end up here?"

Jordan shrugged. "Rafe killed Sheriff Peterkin," he said, and Luis seemed shocked at the mention of the oldest Cameron. "I was there. Ward blindfolded me. Next thing I know, I'm trapped in a cardboard box, I can't see a thing and I'm getting stabbed in the stomach. Then I woke up here." He furrowed his brows. "Where are we, Luis?"

"I have no idea."

They both turned to Kaci again, silence filling up in the freezing air. She didn't blink. The boys weren't sure if she could hear them, if she knew what was happening, if she was dying. She didn't look alive. But she was breathing. Anybody that breathed in this room would be caught in an instant โ€” it was so cold that the shortest breath would release a thick cloud into the air. So, Kaci was breathing and alive, but it was the length of her breaths and the lack of movement in her body that was the cause for concern.

"She'll be okay," Luis assured his younger brother, who looked more worried than ever. "Kaci always is."

Jordan shook his head. "She's not as strong as she let's on."

"You're right. She's stronger."

๐—›๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ, and the room started to fill up with darkness again, the clear image of the siblings fading back into black outlines. Kaz remained uncharacteristically silent as he was rocked in his uncleสผs arms, and Jordan spent hours absently tapping his rough fingers over the smooth ground. Kaci still didn't do a thing. She hadn't opened her eyes in a while, either, and Jordan was beginning to assume the worst, the panic taking over his body. Luis, however, remained calm and cool throughout everything.

There was a sudden crash coming from below them, and Jordan jumped up in surprise, pulling on the metal chains that tightened around his hands. He cried out in pain as the movement of his body stretched out his wound.

Footsteps could be heard surrounding the perimeter of the walls the were trapped inside. The single person continued to move. Again and again. All around in a perfect square.

Luis held onto Kaz that little bit tighter, but he did nothing to make himself known.

Jordan threw his fists against his wall, ignoring the pain that increased the more he moved. This could be his only chance to get out, and he had to use it well. To save his family. "HELP US!" he screamed out through his dry throat.

Kaci didn't move, nor did she wake up.

Something outside rattled. A door handle. A lock. It rattled again and again, and the person outside was losing patience.

Luis remained calm throughout to process, rocking a crying Kaz back to slumber. Jordan only got louder, desperate for his safe escape. Kaci didn't so much as twitch.

"Hold on!" the voice behind the walls called back to him, sounding panicked and startled. He rattled the door again, starting pounding on it with as much strength as Jordan did. "Hold on, Jordan, I'm coming!"

Luis turned to Jordan, whose eyes widened at the familiarity of the voice. He looked to Kaci, who didn't do a single thing.

The rattling stopped.

A minute went by and nothing happened.

Jordan shook his head at the hopeless look on Luisสผs face. "Trust me โ€” he won't give up."

But then another minute slowly passed.

And another.

Then half an hour.

And the next thing the brothers knew, the light was coming back into their small room.

Kaci Flores still didn't open her eyes. She didn't do anything.

Jordan lied back onto the floor in a crushed defeat.

He wasn't coming.

They were going to die in there.
