The Stars Hollow summer carnival, a joyous weekend that happened every year. Every year it was the same, city lights dimmed, replaced by colorful rides and games in the town square. The people came together, a day where no one, even Taylor Doose could complain.

The teens loved it most, they could get as much cheap, carnival food as they wanted, go on as many rides as they wanted and do every stupid thing they couldn't on a normal day. It brought out the best and worst of them.

Last year, Molly, Wyatt and Izzy had attended with just the three of them. They'd gotten sugar rushes from cotton candy and freshly made lemonade and found themselves asleep on the roof of the diner. This year, they were joined by four more.

Their once little group, now grown into one big, dysfunctional family.

Molly hadn't asked Peyton as her date, but they'd still intended to go together. Wyatt had invited Charlie, hoping to spend more time with him before the summer was over. Izzy and Ashley had made up, both too disgustingly in love to let something as little as coming out get in their way. Of course, Beau had been a practical seventh wheel but he didn't mind.

They'd met at the diner for lunch that day, all seated in the colorful chairs behind the counter. They were waiting on Charlie, who had a bit longer of a distance to go before he was in town.

"This year is gonna be good. I can feel it." Wyatt had been bouncing on cloud nine all morning. His smile one that represented a golden retriever in the sun.

"Doose stopped us on our way here." Izzy stated and his smile fell, the girl catching the concerned eyes of the others.

"He told us to have fun." Ashley added, and they all broke into laughter.

"That feels like a trap." Molly said, leaning against the counter with her iced coffee (which Luke had finally perfected) in hand. "Since when does Taylor want us to have fun?"

"Maybe he's got a date." Peyton suggested, poking Molly's shoulder.

"Is Taylor into women? He's always given me a bit of.." Wyatt trailed off, doing a little spin from the other side of the counter.

"That man is so queer it makes us look like a bunch of straighties." Izzy murmured, Wyatt's hand slapping over his mouth, hiding his wheeze.

"We should rename the club." Wyatt said through his fit of laughter.

"Doose's worst nightmares? Why?" Molly asked, they'd come up with the name years ago. It stuck and she didn't want it to change now.

"C'mon, Cher, look at us." He waved his hands around the group and she rose a brow. "That's a gay, thats a gay, that's aβ€”actually, what are you?" He pointed to Beau, the brown haired boy sat beside Peyton, stealing her fries.

"Uh-uh, don't bring me into your little cult." Beau shook his head, causing Wyatt to run around the counter. "I'm notβ€”"

"C'mon, buddy, you joined the second you befriended me." Wyatt brought Beau into a headlock, ruffling his already messy hair.

"Dude!" Beau whined out, smacking Wyatt's chest and shoving him off with a laugh.

"Can you kids keep it down, you're scaring my customers." Luke grumbled out as he exited the kitchen.

"Aw, Lucas, you're scaring your customers." Molly teased, grinning at the man who glared back.

"We are the customers." Ashley retorted, the man rolled his eyes, setting plates in front of them.

"Customers pay. You're dine and dashers."

"I pay!" Peyton held up a hand, and the man gave a half smile.

"They don't." He pointed to the others and they all held the same guilty smile.

"Perks of having six kids. The communal dad." Izzy joked and the man stared at her in disgust.

"Last I checked I'm only a dad to one kid who doesn't even do the job I ask him." Luke muttered, glancing around the diner that Wyatt was supposed to be serving.

"Can't work, too tired." Wyatt pretended to pass out, falling onto Beau's shoulder. He stood back up seconds later, "besides, carnival tickets start selling inβ€”" he checked his nonexistent watch, "five minutes."

"You're leaving me on one of the busiest days toβ€”"

"Oh, look! Jess is here too!" Wyatt pointed out his cousin as he walked down the stairs.

"No I'm not." Jess retorted, walking straight towards the door.

"Right, like you have friends?" Molly called out, hopping down from her stool. Jess glared at her and she smiled, "either stay here and help out, good ole Luke or you can spend your day with us."

"What are you, my mom?"

"Whatever your heart desires, Mariano." Molly kissed his cheek, only irritating the boy more. "Now, gang, lets go before this one runs off."

"Don't be such a downer, Jessie boy, I've got just the thing to cheer you up." Beau stated, slinging his arm around Jess as they all piled out the door.

"I'm being kidnapped." Jess muttered to himself, and Molly laughed.

"I'd like to call it being saved." Molly stated, stepping back to Peyton's side.

Wyatt's eyes bounced around the streets, skipping across as he went ahead of the group. He went straight to the ticket booth, taking out his wallet and trading cash for eight wristbands.

"Danes! You littleβ€”"

"You're welcome." He passed out the wristbands, holding the last one in his hands. They could tell he'd started to get antsy, the longer it was that Charlie still hadn't arrived.

"He'll be here." Molly assured, noticing the small frown appearing on his face.

He looked to Molly with wavering eyes, "what if he changed his mind?"

"Then he's an idiot." She responded, squeezing his hand quickly before turning back to Peyton.

"Wanna get lemonade?" Peyton asked, pointing to the stand beside the tilt-a-whirl.

"Umβ€”" she glanced back to Wyatt, earning a weak thumbs up. "Yeah."

Peyton took Molly's hand, the pair walking over the the lemonade stand that had already started to form a line. They stood in silence, the red head worried about her best friend. Wyatt had been vulnerable with Charlie and if the boy stood him up, it would crush him.

He hadn't had much luck in the love department and Molly knew he deserved nothing but the best. It made her feel bad, knowing she was part of the problem and now she was holding hands with someone else.

"Hey, Molls?" Peyton asked, drawing her from her thoughts.

"Hmm?"

"Do you.. how do I say this?" Peyton asked herself with a sigh, "is there something between you and Wyatt? I know that he's had a thing for you but it feels like do you like him?"

Molly wasn't expecting that, she knew she hadn't been the most discreet lately when it came to the blond. She'd been trying though, feeling as if Wyatt deserved better than her. He had Charlie now, a surprising change of Wyatt's interests. But they were good for each other.

"I think Wyatt is always gonna be someone who I feel comfortable with but.." Molly didn't know how to phrase it.

"But not the right person?" Wrong.

"Yeah." Molly hated that she lied, because she could feel it. Wyatt is the right person, she was sure he always would be. The right time, though? That was a matter of when, not who.

"That person is pretty hard to find." Peyton shrugged, she didn't seem offput by Mollys lack of response.

"Have you.."

"No." Peyton shook her head with a slight laugh, "but I'm not really looking, just kinda going with it."

Molly's brows furrowed, "so, you don't want a girlfriend?"

"Would I be an asshole if not?" Peyton questioned, feeling Molly's hand retreat from her own.

"I guess not." It wasn't like Molly was looking either, but she thought maybe they had something going on.

"Oh, we're next!"

β€”

Wyatt, Beau and Jess had been sat behind the Ferris wheel, passing a joint between the three of them when Wyatt's phone rang. He answered it almost too quickly, the joint going to Beau as he pressed the phone to his ear.

"I'm standing outside of Williams Hardware, or Luke's diner? It's kinda weird butβ€”"

"I'm on my way!" Wyatt exclaimed, bouncing up as he no longer cared about the joint he rolled. "I'll be back." He told the two, his phone stuffing back into his pocket and he ran towards the diner.

Charlie was on the bench outside, kicking his feet on the sidewalk, waiting patiently for the blond. He waved as he saw Wyatt, but the blond had been too excited to care, engulfing Charlie into a tight hug. It had barely been a week since they left camp, the kiss they shared replaying in Wyatt's brain every second.

"I thought you ditched me." Wyatt said as he pulled away, Charlie stepping back warily.

He wasn't used to the open affection, but, he'd never kissed someone like Wyatt Danes. The blond cared about his reputation, but he cared about the people he loved more. It was all new to Charlie.

"Of course not! I got a little lost trying to find this little ass town." Charlie laughed nervously, picking at the bracelets on his wrist.

"I should've guessed that." Wyatt mumbled, "I just didn't know if you decided you'd had enough of me or.." Wyatt's eyes fell to his feet, Charlie made him feel strange. He'd gotten that feeling before, the one where he liked someone so much he was afraid he'd mess it all up. Those stupid butterflies.

"Eh, you're annoying but it's cute." Charlie nudged his shoulder, the blond meeting his eyes. "I-I mean, you'reβ€”"

"Wyatt!"

"Shit, let's go." The blond's eyes went wide as he heard his dad, taking Charlie's wrist and dragging him across the street. "He's slammed and I seriously don't want to get stuck waiting tables all night." The brunette gasped at Wyatts words and the blond laughed.

"Okay, I swear I help him any other day but it's carnival, I'm getting on the gravitron." Wyatt let go of Charlie's wrist, reaching into his pocket and taking out the wristband. "Give me your hand." Charlie did as he was told and Wyatt placed the pass around his wrist.

"Is there elephant ears? Those are always my favorite." Charlie said, scouting out the food stands.

"Hell, yeah. I'm waiting for the munchies to hit so I can enjoy this junk without feeling like I have to hit the gym immediately." Wyatt stated, waving as he saw Izzy and Ashley in line for the Ferris wheel.

Charlie eyed Wyatt for his words, knowing the blond didn't have to hit the gym. His shirt was tight as is, the gray nirvana shirt tight on his chest and shoulders.

"You checking me out, Abe?" Wyatt smirked, feeling the soft brown eyes on him.

"Shut up." Charlie mumbled, his cheeks burning as Wyatt giggled. It was adorable, most things Wyatt did were adorable. Others, he was just plain hot, it was a superpower. One where Wyatt Danes could make one simple act insanely attractive.

They'd wandered the festival for a while, getting on and off rides as they went. Eventually they had run into Molly and Beau while in line for deep fried oreos.

"Where's Peyton?" Wyatt asked when he noticed the girl was no longer at Molly's side. The redhead merely shrugged, the smile that had been stuck to her face all day had now fall into one that had been false.

"Cherry.. where's Peyton?" Wyatt asked again, he didn't like that. He knew Molly liked the girl and he thought the feelings were reciprocated.

"Danes, drop it." Beau warned, taking Molly beneath his arm.

"Hey, Molly." Charlie smiled softly to the girl, trying to defuse the tension Wyatt had suddenly created.

"Thank you for not standing him up." Molly mumbled, reaching up to squeeze his shoulder. They could all see she was upset and it took a lot to make Molly upset at the carnival. It was one of her favorite times of the year, so this wasn't okay.

"Okay, I got it." Wyatt turned around as he heard Ashley from behind him. "Vodka has been supplied, now drink." The blond's brows furrowed, why did everyone know what was going on except him?

"Cherry, are you sure you shouldβ€”" Molly drank the alcoholic drink fast, Ashley having her own in hand.

"Where's Izzy?" Beau asked, a light sigh leaving his mouth as Ashley's eyes widened.

"Shit." Ashley mumbled, spinning around to look for her girlfriend. "I think she's gone Danes."

"Gone Danes?" Wyatt questioned and they all (except Charlie) nodded.

"It's when you go looking for a fight basically. Usually to defend this one." Ashley answered, nodding to Molly who's frown depended.

"Alright, Ash, let's go find her." Beau muttered, letting go of the red head beneath his arm. The two ran off in search of Izzy, Molly still quiet beside the two unknowing boys.

"How's, um, how's your date going?" Molly asked meekly, scratching at her sunburned arms.

"It's good, though I don't think it's.." Charlie looked to Wyatt who shrugged.

"It's definitely a date." Molly smiled to the pair, but they could see the dried tears in her eyes.

"Are you okay?" Charlie asked, and her eyes glazed over, head shaking slowly.

"Guys suck, girls suck. I am not doing to hot right now." Molly laughed through her tears, suddenly Charlie was bringing her into a warm hug. She froze at first, surprised by the contact but slowly fell jnto his embrace.

"It's not always perfect, I've had such shit luck when it's come to relationships.. but, I promise someone good will come." She nodded into his chest, her eyes opened slightly, meeting the broken gaze of Wyatt.

"I just didn't think she'd do that." Wyatt tensed at Molly's words, the protective boil in his blood forming.

"What'd she do?" Wyatt asked, Charlie letting the girl go from his comforting hug.

"I'm not special." Molly mumbled, wiping her tears, "she has a girl in New York who she's on and off with and I'm just.. yeah." Molly rolled her eyes, taking another drink of her lemonade.

"You didn't do anything with her, right?" Wyatt asked, knowing it'd only her Molly worse if she had.

"No, we didn't even kiss but like it still fucking sucks."

"To think I actually fucking likedβ€”"

"There you are." Wyatt was interrupted as Jess walked up to them, eyeing the boy at Wyatt's side curiously. "I just rolled one, wanna smoke?" Jess asked, Molly took the stray from her mouth.

"You don't smoke, do you?" Wyatt asked Charlie and he shook his head. "I'll pass, man." The blond said, earning a shocked look from both Molly and Jess.

"Gilmore, you in?" Jess asked, holding out the lighter and she took it with a smile.

"Always." She turned away, walking in the direction of the bridge. "You gotta keep up, Jessie!" She shouted as he trailed behind.

Jess jogged up to her side, the pair slipping through the crowds with urgency. Molly had shoved every sane thought away as they got to the bridge, she refused to think about anything as stupid as love. Maybe she didn't need it, maybe what she needed was to do whatever she wanted.

It was stupid, to think that she had to like someone to be with them. Wyatt did it all the time, he hooked up with people for fun, why couldn't she?

"Hey, Jess?" Molly questioned, her legs crossed as they sat on the bridge, lighting the joint to share.

"Hmm?" He hummed, the joint pressed between his lips, now holding the lighter.

"Do you think you have to like someone to hook up with them? Like.. is that connection necessary?" He coughed out a puff of smoke, trying to take in her erratic question.

"I, um, I guess it depends on the person. Some people can, some people can't." He shrugged, a brow raised at her in question, waiting for her to elaborate.

"Have you?" She asked, taking the joint as he passed it.

Jess thought, watching as Molly inhaled, "yeah, I don't really get that connection anyway. Too fucked up in the head."

Molly nodded, exhaling slowly, "I've never tried."

"Why don't you?"

"Who would I try with though?" She asked, and he laughed lightly.

"That's the thing, anyone." He responded, Molly took another hit, setting the joint down to burn out. She studied him as he looked to her, his expression blank, giving her nothing to stop herself.

Jess wasn't ideal, she wasn't attracted to him, he was hot, sure. But he was also Wyatt's cousin, she never thought of doing anything with him before. She was sure he'd felt the same, having an obvious crush on her own sister.

Yet, Molly leaned closer, until she'd practically been on his lap, her hand cupping his cheek. He didn't back away, his own hands falling to her hips, drawing her in. The alcohol in her system could've been a reason to her insane behavior, but they both knew it was more than that.

She had something to prove.

The moment their lips locked had been strange, Molly was used to feeling a sort of passion. She expected a lingering love, sparks, but it had been nothing but possible lust. A sloppy, emotionless, kiss that she could tear herself away from. Her hands in his hair, his hands groping her body, it was hot.

Jess wasn't a bad kisser either, his mouth was soft, tasting of cigarettes, hers surely of sugar and vodka in that moment. It wasn't paced well, both too into it to care. Their breaths were heavy, tongues sweeping over each other's. He drew back, his teeth tugging at her bottom lip and she let out a gasp.

"Wh-what was that?" She panted, her legs now straddling his waist. They were sat on the bridge, the one where only months ago she was in this same position with Wyatt. She refused to think about that, this wasn't about Wyatt, it was about her.

"What? This?" He leaned in, teeth grazing her lip again, slowly moving down her neck and her head fell back. She wasn't used to it, she only ever knew gentle. It was new and she loved it.

She sucked in a breath, his teeth sinking into the skin between her shoulder and neck. His sucked down, drawing back to eye the marks he'd left. They weren't hidden, but fortunately, they weren't too dark. She didn't really care though, fuck it.

Thats all she could think, fuck it all.

Molly reached back, taking the discarded joint and lighter between her fingers. She'd worn a tank top that day, one that went low on her chest and tight on her skin. He'd taken that as an opening, kissing down her neck as she relit the joint.

It was a surreal moment, the feel of her lips on her skin as the smoke went to her lungs, escaping out with a soft moan. Something she hadn't ever thought to happen and she was doing it without a single care.

She took another hit, guiding Jess back to her lips, mouths parted as he took in the smoke. Molly detached herself from him, sitting back where she was moments before with a hazed smile.

"Let's finish this and get back before they send out a search party, yeah?" Jess asked, taking the joint from the girl and she nodded. Her head was fuzzy, a slight proudness to her own actions.

"Dude, you literally justβ€”" she laughed, knowing she wouldn't be able to hide the marks he'd left.
