A lover. The concept had grown unfamiliar over the years to the lone yaksha. The reason was heartbreak - but it wasn't his own that broke. He hurt the person he loved most. Broken and now alone, he faced the guilt of watching them crumble in front of them, tears streaming down their face as they bitterly laughed at Xiao's unfazed expression.

'And here I had thought I helped you.'

"Hmph." He snarled at nobody in particular. He thought he healed. He really did. He was so far from it however, and he made that clear the day his lover left. Walking through Guyun Stone Forest, Xiao lightly dragged his fingers against the rock, the rough texture of scrapes and writing from blades sending a wave of sadness through him. 'The yaksha and the traveler!' It read; you found the two titles quite cute together. He scowled at the writing and turned away. Xiao wanted to imagine it as foolish, delusional wishes of a mere mortal, but his heart ached at every word he spotted around the area. His lover's words pierced through him, a painful reminder of his flaws. "How selfish." He mumbled. "You remain to hurt me even if you're no longer here."

He left the area, leaving a trail of lonely footsteps behind him. Xiao couldn't see Liyue the same. Though he had known it as the place he swore to protect, it simply became the place where he broke his lover's heart, where he spent his days living in the fantasy of what mortals called true love. Wangshu Inn was the only place the yaksha could find the faintest feeling of peace. Sometimes, however, the familiar sound of peaceful humming echoed around the inn. Xiao would cover his ears and lay against the railing, trying to drown out the sound to no avail. The melody haunted him. Slaying demons became a frequent past-time. Increasing the karmic bonds that tugged at his soul was worth forgetting the past, even if it meant for just a second. No matter how hard he tried, the pain would creep back, getting worse every day he paid no mind to it. It played with his heartstrings and clouded his thoughts - it was the only thing he could feel. Verr Goldet frowned at him as he sulked on the balcony, a plate of almond tofu beside him that'd remain untouched for 10 minutes to an hour.

"Save some space, would you?" (Y/N) giggled, Xiao slightly moving to the side. "Oh please, as if I took up all the space." He sighed as they leaned on his shoulder. Intertwining their fingers, Xiao coughed. (Y/N) only ignored it and held his hand tighter. He realized that it wasn't any use trying to stop them and slowly leaned into their touch. "Took you long enough." They smiled as Xiao grumbled, embracing their figure.

"(Y/N), what happened?" Verr mumbled.
