"Please."
One word was all it took for you to lean back into him. Leaving Xiao alone in a moment so rare was an oppurtunity wasted. His soft gaze, gentle embrace and efforts in comforting you was new, but it was something you realized you had always wanted.
You sighed slightly as you settled down, Xiao seemingly unfazed and turning back to the horizon once again. "Thank you." He said, releasing his loose grip on your wrist. You merely shrugged. Snaking his arm around your shoulders again, he pulled you closer and pat your back. "Stay close for now. You should feel better before setting out with Aether." He huffed sternly. "Whatever you say," you mumbled as you sank into his embrace.
It was comfortable, but the thought that this would be the first and last time you'd stay with Xiao in such a situation hurt you. Your heart broke at seeing his calm expression. You wouldn't see him in such a state for a long time. The yaksha was kind and caring to you -- and not in the way strangers would treat one another. He was unusually tender, perhaps because you were bound to leave soon, and he felt obligated, or because he finally wanted to spend time with you the way he had always desired to.
Either way, your appreciation of it and love for him was undeniable. As much as you cherished Aether, he was just a friend. The same went for everyone you had ever met in Teyvat. It was different for Xiao and only him. You saw him in a romantic light. Staring helplessly at the glistening waters below, Xiao grumbled and muttered inaudible words. "It's almost midnight." You commented.
He glared at you, gaze sharp and firm. "All the more for you to stay alert, (Y/N)." He whispered. "I don't want you to get in harm's way, so-"
"Call out your name, I know,"
"Good."
Silence was way too common between you two, but the bubbling in your stomach intensified every second of the suffocating lack of words. "What'll you do when I leave?" You asked, afraid to make eye contact with him, let alone see his reaction.
"My duties." He replied stiffly. You pouted. "I know, but aside from that."
"I..." He began, his voice wavering. "I don't know. I'll stay here, and wait for you." He admitted. Your lips quaked for a bit, tears threatening to spill as his every word tugged at your heartstrings. "Thank you for thinking of me."
He looked at you, slightly surprised. "Are you crying?" He asked frantically. "Did I say something to upset you?" He asked again, watching you vigorously shake your head. "No, it's just I think," You say softly, hugging him.
"I think I love you."
