IT WAS UNFORTUNATE that they lost Kiara in the drive back from the church. When Shoupe pulled them over, they knew exactly what it would be for. It meant that she would have to face the consequences of stealing her dad's truck and then the truck becoming totaled from Pope's reckless driving. As much as she hated that they had to go on without her, she knew that they had to. They didn't have time to waste or else they might not have their chance to get the cross back.

That's why they were pulled up to Sarah's house. Rafe had been the last one that was with the cross, so they had to start somewhere. Their heads were barely over the wall as they tried to remain hidden to see what Rafe would do.

"How much you wanna bet Rafe has the cross inside that truck right now?" Pope said.

"There's only one way to find out," Sarah said. Pope, JJ, and Carson stayed where they were to let John B and Sarah have their moment to discuss their own personal problems before Sarah risked herself going into the house.

"I really hope you guys never break up," Pope commented.

"Aw, thanks, Pope," Carson said.

"Only 'cause I don't feel like having to listen to that between you two," he said, referring to the conversation that John B and Sarah were having.

"Just for that, you're getting demoted to flower girl at our wedding," Carson said sarcastically.

"We're getting married?" JJ asked.

"Obviously, I'm pregnant, remember?" she joked.

"News to me," he said.

"Well, it might not be yours, so," she said.

"Awkward," Pope said. John B walked over and looked at them.

"What're you talking about?" he asked.

"Car's pregnancy," Pope said in a completely serious tone as if it were not a joke. John B whipped his head over to her in shock.

"What?"

"Nothing, it was a joke. I'm not actually pregnant, chill," she said.

"The thought of a tiny version of JJ and Carson is actually pretty terrifying, if I'm being completely honest," Pope continued. JJ just laughed while Carson rolled her eyes.

"Can we please focus?" Carson said as she leaned against the wall to watch Sarah.

"Carson telling Pope to focus? That's a first," John B said.

"Shut up," she said. They all laughed and leaned up against the wall with her. Sarah tried looking in the truck for the keys but when she was unable to find them, she looked over at them and whisper-yelled that she didn't know what to do but that she was going to have to go inside.

"You said don't go in the house," JJ said.

"I told her," John B said.

"Do the bird call!" Pope said. John B put his hands up to his mouth and began to do a horrible imitation of a bird. "What? That's not what a bird sounds like."

"Was that a dying chicken?" JJ asked.

"This is a waste of time. I'm going over," Carson said. She began to lift herself onto the wall, which the boys did right after her. Unfortunately, they were not able to get very far before suddenly an old man in a golf cart and a flashlight was honking at them.

"Uh, excuse me," he said. "Can I help you?" He cocked his gun as he climbed out of his golf cart with a laugh. "I got double-aught bucks in this thing, so, uh, I can't miss. Alright there, off the wall." They jumped off the wall and raised their hands to show they meant no trouble.

"Sir, it's not what it seems," JJ said.

"You are on the wrong side of the island," the man said. "I think I'm gonna call the police."

"You don't have to do that, sir," JJ said.

"I'll decide for myself what I need to do," he said.

"Sir, can I just talk to you for a minute?" JJ asked. "Just to explain." Carson and John B glanced over at each other worriedly. JJ was either going to make things completely worse or he was going to get them out of this. They could never really know with him. The only reason that Carson had a feeling he would be able to get them out of this was based on the time that they had been in the junkyard and he had thrown out some bullshit.

"Sir, I know you think we're just some derelict kids from the Cut, but we weren't that to Mr. Cameron. We were his yard workers, sir. And we were just waiting for our yard associate, Tommy, to get back from planting a row of flowers from Mr. Cameron's memorial."

"Keep talking," the man said. JJ stood to his feet and began telling an elaborate story that the man seemed interested in. Carson was trying hard not to smile because she didn't want to give their cover away.

"And that's why we planted those flowers," he said. "You smell that, right?"

"What is that, night-blooming jasmine?" the man asked.

"No, that's more like, um, like, sir that's um... natural Viagra," JJ said.

"That's exactly what that is," Carson said.

"Really?" he said in amazement.

"Oh yeah, it's great for bringing in the ladies," she said.

"One sniff and bam! It's hammer time! You know what I'm saying?" JJ said. As much as JJ's story had worked, they didn't have the time to continue amusing this old man. They had gotten out of the police being called so they would have to take advantage of that while they could.

"Our associate, Tommy, should be out here any minute," Pope said as him and John B started to pull JJ away.

"We'll be quiet, alright? And we'll finish up here. I'm sorry to bother you," JJ said.

"See that you do," he said as he climbed back into his golf cart. "I gotta get some of those flowers."

"Have a good night, sir."

Carson turned to JJ and broke into a laughter. "I've said it once and I'll say it again, your mind is a scary place. But I love it." He laughed before turning to the others.

"Let's go," he said. They were about to make their way towards the house but before they could, Rafe walked out of the door.

"Get down," John B said.

"Dude, that's Rafe," Pope said.

"What do we do? What's the plan?" he questioned.

"Well, he might have the gun, so, uh, what's in our favor?" JJ said. "The element of surprise, that's what's in our favor right now."

"What can we surprise him with, JJ?" John B pointed out.

"What if we threw something in front of it?" he suggested.

"Like, what? Your body? Do you want to volunteer to throw your body at the truck?" Carson said. Suddenly, Pope was sprinting after the truck at full force. "I wasn't being serious!" But he was already gone.

"What was that shit?" John B said before looking over. "Well, we got the house right there."

"Rafe's gone. Now let's just storm the fort," JJ said.

"And find Sarah," Carson added. Almost on cue, the door opened again but this time it was Rose and Wheezie carrying the exact blonde that they were looking for out of the house.

"Dude, they got Sarah," JJ said.

"What did they do to her?" John B said.

"It looks like she's drugged out," Carson said. "Where are they taking her?" They ran after the car and immediately began banging on the door at Wheezie to open it. "Wheezie, open the door!"

"I'm sorry, I can't," she said. They tried to continue running and hitting the car in attempt to get the door to open but eventually Rose was driving way too fast and lost them. JJ grabbed John B and Carson and pushed them forward.

"We gotta get to the Twinkie!"
