MAN ON THE MOON

˚✧˳✧˚✧˳✧˚✧ ☂️ ✧˚✧˳✧˚✧˳✧˚

(Y/N) Hargreeves

THINKING DEEP INTO MY THOUGHTS, someone interfered with my reflection with the rattling sound of the door. I was trying to understand Five's equations and random notes outlined along with the chapters of Vanya's book. It was all over the place, the chapters, the paragraphs; I don't even know how he understood his own writing.

The asshole named 'Five' left me in the van because he wanted to have a honeymoon with his other plastic bitch.

I peered into the passenger seat window since I was slouched down at the back, biting the tip of Five's pen unintentionally.

"(Y/N)?" It was Luther, who peeked back at me at the window with a puzzled look. I unlocked the door.

"What are you doing here?"

"Where's Five? There's been attacked last night at home—Damn it." He explains as he struggled to get in because of his disproportionate figure. Suddenly the door to the back opens and reveals Diego, who was in his usual black suit. "Hey, jackass." I greeted him before he came in scanning in the area.

"Just so you know we're here for Five and not for you." I rolled my eyes at his statement.

"Is everyone safe?" I asked calmly lowering the position of the book changing my tone into a serious one.

"Oh, yeah don't worry about it..."

I took a breath of relief before proceeding with my calculations. As far as I can remember, it was always I that is assigned to protect my family. And when Ben died dad took me the blame for not performing well in my role as the 'shield' of the team. It was my sworn duty to keep this family out of danger no matter how tiring and exhausting they can be, at least that's the good part when dad raised me.

"Where's Five? I thought you guys are like... close." Luther questions while exploring the compartment of the car. "Yeah, well our 'business' had a problem but I think he's somewhere drinking," I said apathetically. I was pissed off at Five, the audacity to pick a literal thing over me.

"Why are you searching for him anyway."

"We believed that the people from last night were searching for Five." Diego states. "Klaus is missing too," Luther says gathering enough confidence to spill the last part. "What do you mean 'missing'? Isn't he like, always high and can be found next to a dumpster the next morning?"

"We believe that the people last night took him."

My ears perked up. "You mean 'people' as in two strangers in suits with an animal headgear?" Putting down harshly the book I went out of the car, feeling my muscles tense up.

"Yeah, how'd you know about them?"

"Oh, shit." We have to do something about those wanna-be mascots before it worsens the situation and gets someone killed. "We have to find Five." I dictated. "Yeah, that's what we've been trying to do genius." Diego scoffs. 'But where could that smartass be?'.

"Hey, guys... I think I know where to find Five." Diego whistled before showing us a page from the previous book I was holding where a stamp of a certain library was pressed on.

'Argyle Street Branch'

"Well, we're here."

"Let's split up."

"Wow, good thinking."

We all went around, going up to each floor in search of our favorite baby brother. But there were no signs of him from below. From afar on the other side, I saw Luther and Diego talking. I dashed to their areas and slowed down once I was a few feet away. I heard indistinctive chatter of the two. I went closer.

"Dad's dead. Mom too, now."

"Mom's dead? W-What happened?" I repeated while nearing the proximity to them as they instantaneously turned their heads to see my upset state. Luther tucked his lips and nodded "The intruders last night did it.". I went beside Diego near the railings, leaning back, my eyes downcast still not accepting the fact that mom's gone just like that.

I was sad to hear the news but I didn't bawl my eyes out. I didn't wanna cry in front of these two knob heads. "Sorry that you have to hear about it right now." Luther apologizes with rueful lips.

Diego strokes my (H/C) hair from the back giving me sympathy despite us always growling at each other's existence he was a solicitous brother. Diego may be seen off as a jerk but that's just a coping way, he's a defensive guy. Putting on his mask, he always hides his true emotion.

"We're orphans again, dude." He dictates to Luther as all of them rested their back on the barrier.

"And things are never gonna go back to the way they used to... be." Suddenly he was fazed and was looking directly at something.

"Do you ever stop talking?" Luther says irked. Diego surprisingly ignored his comment and walks away seemingly his attention was on to something else. "Well, that was easy."

Wiping the tears in the corner of my eye, it was no time to cry. I'm 29 years old but the teenage hormones still kick in sometimes, but I'm just really emotionally attached to Mom. Her being dead is now a close subject, we have no time for that knowing that the end of the world is near.

I outpaced Diego's tracks and there I found Five by the corner holding an empty bottle of beer, clutching to Delores while being scattered with books and notebooks. A marker on the floor rolls which he used to vandalize the wall.

I kneeled down to his intoxicated state. He detected my presence, slowly fluttering his eyes almost graciously. "Hey, you're cute." He grumbles under his breath, his eyes still looking drowsy but I didn't quite hear what he said.

"What?"

"I said you're cute..." He mumbles out, at the verge of dosing off still sounding groggy.

"Repeat that one more time..?" I gathered the spread out sheets and materials that were disbanded on the floor.

"I SAID YOU'RE CUTE, YOU LITTLE SHIT!" He barks, instantly snoozing off. I got startled by his sudden shriek.

I put Five's available arm on my shoulder as he clings to me while my two useless brothers only arrived to continue to observe our scene. "Is he--"

"Drunk as a skunk, yes. Now make yourself useful Luther and carry him for me will ya'?"

Diego snickers silently, pleased with my remark.

We proceeded our way in a dark alleyway. "Are we going back to the house?" I asked. "It's not secure. Those psychopaths could come back at any moment." Luther answers."My place is closer. No one will look for him there." Diego offers.

"I think he's gonna throw up..." I stated after he suddenly raises his head to belch. Luther became alarmed since he was carrying Five who was still embracing Delores on our way back. "I swear if you vomit on me."

"You know what's funny? Ah! I'm going through puberty. Huh. Twice. And I... I drank that whole bottle, didn't I? Well, that's what you do when the world you love goes bye-bye. Poof, it's gone." He lets out a hiccup as he swings his arms up accidentally hitting my face in the process. "Hey! Ouch!" I exclaimed scrunching my nose.

"What are you guys talking about?" Five slants his neck upward to face me with an upside-down face in my view beside Luther. "Hey, baby." He mumbles giving a kissy face, it was adorable but I pretended I was repulsed by his weird actions.

"Two masked intruders attacked the Academy last night."

"They came looking for you. So I need you to focus."

"It's Hazel and Cha-Cha." He mutters. "Who?" Diego slowed his turning his head. "You know I hate codenames."

"Ah, the best of the best. Except for me of course."

"Best of what?"

"You know, Delores always said she hated when I drink. She said it made me surly—"

"Hey! I need you to focus."

"What do this Hazel and Cha-Cha want?"

Five only gives off a creepy smile from Diego's question.

"We just wanna protect you. The both of you."

"'Protect me.' We don't need your protection, Diego. Do you have any idea how many people I've killed? I'm the Four frickin' Horsemen. The apocalypse is coming!" Five rambled still having that bold attitude despite being inebriated.

"My girlfriend can tell you all about it. But I'm pretty sure she's not here I left her in the van. I kinda miss her too. Can we go back to the van? I wanna go check up on her." He prattled then yawning right after and then barfs while in Luther's grasp.

They both winced in disgust before looking at me with raised brows, expecting a description of our relationship. "Wait, since when did you guys start dating?" Luther asked after he glowered on the boy who threw upon his arm. "Since never. Five's just spitting nonsense."

"Even high schoolers have a more stable relationship than you." Diego taunts Luther who still looked disapproving of our link.

"Diego, I'm 29 years old."

"Ah, so we're both legal?" Five snorts out, smiling to himself, naturally catching eachother's gaze. All of us gave a confused look at what he just said before he finally passed out.

˚✧˳✧˚✧˳✧˚✧ ☂️ ✧˚✧˳✧˚✧˳✧˚

We arrived at Diego's place. It's in a small local boxing arena. "Smells like crap in here," I mentioned. "I don't smell anything stop making up shit," Diego responds in defense. "Of course, I was talking about you; you can't smell yourself, silly." I rolled my eyes.

"What is the big deal of this mannequin?" He asked as he was about to throw it out by his bin. "Don't!" I quickly grabbed Delores and placed her down the chair.

As much as I want to choke this non-living thing, Five loves this piece of shit.

Luther places Five down on the bed. Diego and I approached the sleeping figure. All of us were in awe of his state, he looked like he couldn't murder anyone with his face.

"Funny. If I didn't know he was such a prick, I'd say he looks almost adorable in his sleep." Diego admits as I sat down on the bed with occupied space beside Five. "Well, don't worry. He'll sober up eventually. Be back to his normal, unpleasant self." Luther commented.

"Yeah, he's so cute." I put a strand of his hair behind his ear but only for it to bounce back on his forehead.

"You're crushing on Five aren't you? You're gonna make perfectly blended asshole children. You two have done nothing but mess around in the streets." Diego lets out a smug smile, trying to contain himself from sarcastic amusement. "I'd tell you to fuck yourself but I'm pretty sure you'd be disappointed." I responded giving a smirk.

"Anyway, we can't wait too long for him to wake up. I need to find out what his connection is with these lunatics before someone else dies."

I knew everything. Five already told me about the 'commission' but I decided that it was better if it came out in his mouth.

"Wait, wait—I thought they were already dating?" Luther lets out still refering to the previous statement Diego gave.

As we were about to have another debate with Luther we all heard cluttering from outside the door.

Luther sustained his secured posture while I did too. Diego pulls out his knives, in his stance as slowly walks his way to the exit.

"You throw another one of those goddamn knives at me, I'm pressing charges!" The grumpy wrinkly man we met earlier comes by the door. "What do you want, Al?"

"I ain't your secretary."

"Yeah."

"Some lady called for you, said she needs your help. Some, uh, detective. I think she said her name was, uh, Blotch or somethin'."

"Patch? She needs my help..." Diego mutters to himself, instantly changing his mood into a serious persona. "She needs you to meet her at that motel, a dump on Calhoun."

But suddenly my focus got shifted back to the sleeping beauty when he suddenly pulls my arm resulting in me almost falling down and knocking my head out. "What are you doing?!" I whispered while I turned to him and faced his level, only a few inches away from his nose.

"I was just gonna say we have the same ring, so we're probably married." He giggles, obviously still drunk. "This ring? But the last time you wore it was when we were 13." And I'm wearing his too that I found in his room because I lost mine in the Griddy's donut shop.

His hand dives inside his inner clothes only to seize hold of a posie ring, dangling from a thin pendant chain, hanging around his neck.

"W-Where did you get this...?" I asked snatching it and zooming in closer but only to find my name on it. 'Eight'.

"I lost this somewhere at Griddy's...."

"The apocalypse. I always gave a little smooch on it every time I thought of you." He chuckles.

And that statement was enough to make me smile, I was genuinely happy and I brushed off the topic of where he exactly got it from. I'm overwhelmed. I was surprised "You know, you're actually more fun to talk to when you're drunk. You reveal all sorts of 'malicious' secrets." I snickered releasing the ring from my hand and letting it swing loosely.

"Yeah, and I get to do shit like this."

And the next thing I knew a kiss was planted on my left cheek.

'He just threw up earlier... Didn't he?'
