Three weeks later:

"So has Josh asked you yet?" I ask Mia while we walk around the mall. I take a sip of my milkshake and we head into the dress store.

"Yes, I was gonna tell you. He asked me last night and it was the cutest thing ever." She squeals and you can see the love in her eyes whenever she talks about him. "He set up a movie night for us both, made a picnic and gave me a bouquet of roses with a card attached with the question on it."

Her smile grows larger and she turns away from the clothing rack to face me. "I can't believe our dance is next week and we graduate the week after that."

"I know, it's crazy. Cole isn't telling me what college he's going to until he makes a final decision. What if it's miles away and we can't make long-distance work?" My stomach churns at the thought of it not working for us.

"You guys will be just fine. You're amazing together and I don't think being miles apart will be able to stop that. Come on, let's choose our dresses." I nod but the thought stays in the back of my head. I follow Mia and a dress on display catches my eye.

It's stunning.

I pick it up and I hear Mia gasp. "That will look amazing on you. Try it on now!" She basically shoves it into my chest and drags me to the changing room.

I put it on and walk out. "How does it look? It looks like someone's taken down the mirror in there." I tug at the lace sleeves and Mia still hasn't said a word.

Her mouth is agape and it's confirmed, even the most amazing looking dress doesn't suit me. I have no hope. She walks up to me and turns me to the side. "What are you—"

Now it's me not saying anything. For once, I actually look kinda nice. Somehow the dress looks even nicer on me than the hanger.

"If you don't get that dress, I'm going to grab one of the heels from that shelf and beat you with it." I burst out laughing because from the tone of her voice, she's being completely serious.

"Well at least I didn't have to try on a million dresses," I smirk. "Your turn." I grab one of the dresses she picked up and push her into the changing cubicle.

*****

You know when I said I was happy I didn't have to try on a bunch of dresses? Well, I think that sounds rather appealing right now. I've been sat in this same seat for the past two hours while Mia is yet to decide what dress she wants.

"I swear if I don't like this one as well, I'm going to scream." She mutters and I snicker. She grabs the last dress from the seat—the last dress from her third (and hopefully last) pile of dresses.

She walks out and looks in the mirror. Let's just say the dress definitely didn't disappoint.

"Holy crap, I look hot." I giggle, agreeing with her. "Okay, let's get out of here and pay. I can't be in this shop a second longer." She says and quickly changes back into her original clothes.

Once we pay we leave the store and she looks at me, "Cole is going to fall to his knees when he sees you in that dress." I blush and I hope you're right Mia, I hope you're right.

"And what about Josh?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. "Because he is going to be speechless when you walk out in your dress." She giggles a little.

"Bring on prom."

*****

I finish applying the last bit of mascara to my eyelashes and stand up straight, staring at myself in the mirror. I smile and can't wait to see Cole's face.

Turns out crimson red really suits me.

I've given no hints about my dress ever since I brought it so he has no idea what the colour is, let alone what it looks like.

"Are you ready, Andie? Cole is outside!" Josh shouts up the stairs and I add a small amount of lipstick before putting it in my clutch.

"Okay! I'm coming down now!" I call back and walk down the stairs. Nadia and Mark are both stood near the door, looking at me.

"Josh is outside and honey, you look beautiful," Nadia exclaims and wipes a tear from under her eye before pulling me into a hug. "She would've been so proud of you right now." She whispers in my ear and pulls back, smiling.

I hope she would be.

"Come on, doesn't your uncle get a hug?" He chuckles and I laugh, hugging him as well.

"You better get going, Josh has been stressing about when Mia is going to show up." She laughs.

I wave goodbye and open the door to see Cole looking around, shifting nervously. The door makes a slight sound and his head snaps in my direction.

"Woah." He whispers, I think it's more to himself than me, and I feel myself blushing so I look to the floor. "You—I... Wow..." He struggles to speak and I can't wipe the smile off of my face. I take him being speechless as a compliment but holy...

He looks amazing.

"You look very handsome," I say shyly. The suit fits him perfectly.

"You look absolutely stunning." He grabs both my hands and pulls me closer to him so I get on my tiptoes to kiss him but have to pull away quicker than I would have wanted.

Thanks, Josh.

"Come on guys, I'd rather not watch my cousin make out with her boyfriend." Josh whines and Cole looks at him, raising his eyebrows.

"So don't look." He shrugs and I giggle into his neck.

"Where the hell is Mia?" Josh mutters and just like that, she's pulling up and getting out of her car.

My best friend looks gorgeous. She's curled her hair, makeup not too heavy and wears a navy blue dress that flows nicely. Josh's shoulders tense up.

She walks straight up to him and is the first to speak. "You look really... really good." She giggles, turning a deep red.

"You look incredible." He's smiling and looking at her from head to toe.

"Thank you." She whispers and tucks a piece of hair behind her ear.

"Come on love birds, let's get going," I say jokingly and gesture to the car but Mia squeals and hugs me.

"You look amazing." She tells me and I smile.

"So do you. I love the hair." Just as I take Cole's hand and go to the car, Nadia rushes out of the house.

"Wait! I forgot about pictures! I'll be quick I promise but all stand together." She waves her hand about to show us where to go and after a stressful five minutes, she's done and we're on our way to prom.

As we head into the hall, they're groups of teens going in together. Just before we get to the door Josh stops us. "Well just in case the punch isn't already spiked, I brought a flash for us."

Mia and I both stare at him with an incredulous look and he shrugs nonchalantly. "What?" He puts his hands up in surrender, "I'm just taking precautions."

We both shake our heads and Cole grabs my hand muttering something along the lines of "I wish I thought of that."

Typical.

******

The night is almost over and about an hour ago Josh and Mia went off dancing. The other guys went off earlier and Noah and Seph finally told us about them.

Not that I didn't know already.

Everyone was shocked apart from Mia and Me. Looks like we're the most observing people in our friend group. But we all admitted they do seem like a great match.

(A/N: Play the song at the top)

As the last song of the night comes on, the lights dim and almost every couple in the room gets up to dance because it's a slow one.

Cole's stood in front of me with his hand held out. "A dance, Princess?"

I smile warmly, "Of course." I take his hand and we walk further onto the dance floor. I wrap my arms around his neck and he puts his hands on my waist, pulling me closer.

We start swaying side to side and he moves a piece of my hair behind my ear, whispering something. "You look breathtaking tonight." I look up at him, smiling widely.

"Well, you look dashing in a suit," I say while grinning and rest my head on his chest. We move with the beat for a while and he runs his finger up and down my back gently.

When we get to the chorus he takes my hand, spinning me out slowly before pulling me back to him.

"I didn't know you could dance," I comment and our hands are intertwined.

"I can't. But what can I say, you make me do things I didn't think I was capable of doing." He grins and I throw my head back laughing.

"Cole Jones, creator of cheesy comments."

"You love me." He states and I look him in the eyes, never breaking the contact.

"I do." I smile and my heart beats rapidly just like it always does whenever I'm with him.

He spins me out and murmurs "I love you." before planting a kiss on the top of my head. It's only then that I realise how beautifully the song fits.

"I love you," I say back and we move side to side.

I wish we could stay like this forever.

He spins me out one last time and pulls me back quicker than before. I have to put both my hands onto his chest to steady myself so I don't fall. When I look up at him he's still grinning.

"Falling for me again, Mitchell?"

"I never stopped," I say before planting a kiss on his cheek and he chuckles.

"Who's the cheesy one now?" He asks, wiggling his eyebrows, and it's my turn to laugh.

"What can I say, you make me do things I didn't even think I was capable of doing." I throw his words back at him and the song ends.

"I've had a great time tonight," I say to him as we leave the hall. I grab my phone, ready to call Mia to see where they are but a text pops up.

Mia: We've decided to get a cab back to mine. You can come round if you want x

Me: It's okay, Cole and I are gonna do our own thing. See you tomorrow x

Maybe it's best I don't interrupt whatever they're planning on doing tonight and the image that pops up in my head makes me cringe.

"So did I, are you tired?" I yawn straight after he asks his question and he laughs. "I'll take that as a yes."

"No, I'm fine honestly. Mia and Josh have gone back to hers so it's just us." I reply and grab his hand as we walk back to the car.

"Well, my parents are working night shifts so we can go back to mine." He turns to look at me before pressing the button on his keys to unlock the car.

"Yeah, that sounds good. Really good actually."

"Woah Princess, you seem rather keen to spend the night with the one and only Cole Jones." He winks and I huff but can't hide the smile that makes its way onto my face.

Cocky bastard.

"You know I can just go to sleep if I want." I tease.

"Now now, I think I'm speaking only the truth when I say you won't be getting much sleep tonight." He smirks and my heart hammers against my ribcage.

Cue the butterflies.

"Yeah, you're right, another walking dead marathon." I joke and get into the car. He starts the engine but before driving off he leans closer so he's right near my face.

He moves to the side and his breath fans my cheek, causing shivers to go all the way down my spine.

"I think you and I both know we're doing something much better." My face must turn the same colour as my dress and I can tell he's proud of himself because he knows the effect he has on me.

"You're too cute, Princess." By the smile on his face, I can tell he takes pleasure in making me blush like crazy.

"I hate you," I mutter and he tuts.

"Not as much as you love me." He answers back smugly in a sing-song manner.

I don't respond because we both know the answer to the one.

He's right.
