A/N: Here's chapter 12. Enjoy, people.

Would've. Could've. Should've.

Didn't. Didn't. Didn't.

Third Person:

"Are you crazy?" A boy laughed. "We might not know you that well, Arya- with the exception of Chris- but we're still human. We won't send you back."

"Switch it off." A cold voice demanded and the man jumped, immediately doing so.

Gio Mantennii turned to the couple on the couch. The woman was silently fuming.

"That ungrateful brat!" Patricia growled, her brown eyes darkening.

"Calm down, darling." Timothy soothed. "Now that we know where your daughter is, it won't be too hard to find her."

"But... what if she doesn't want to be found?" Marigold asked timidly, sitting a few feet away in a wooden chair.

Patricia glared at her and the younger girl shrank back. "Are you questioning me, Marigold? Arya doesn't have a choice in the matter."

"Why?" Marigold persisted, surprising herself and everyone else in the room. "Why have you always treated Arya-"

"Quiet, girl." Gio said in a quiet, deadly voice. "Do not disrespect your mother like that."

Marigold opened her mouth, then closed it again, looking down.

"I went to those boys today in order to ask them to track down Arya." Gio continued. "I left two microphones to hear what they were saying. They found one, but not the other." A flicker of amusement passed across his features. "In a way, it works perfectly. Tomorrow, I shall go to their home and pretend to not know that they have Arya with them-"

"Why?" Timothy interrupted.

Mantennii scowled. "I suggest you don't interrupt me in the future if you want to live." Timothy gulped and flushed.

"But anyway, I want to avoid bloodshed as much as possible. Those boys are incredibly dangerous and I have no wish to lose my men to a bunch of teenagers. Besides, Arya is not legally an adult yet- even if we have her, there is nothing we can do. I will bide my time and I suggest you do the same." It was evident that the last part wasn't a suggestion.

X

Arya:

After washing off all the makeup, I sat on the couch and sighed happily, opening the book I'd been dying to read for days.

But I didn't get very far as I was interrupted by Kit. Seriously, what's a girl gotta do to get some reading done around here?!

"Skittle." He paused. "Do you want to play twenty questions? I'm bored."

I raised an eyebrow. "Don't you have homework to do?"

He sighed dramatically and flopped next to me. "I've finished it all. I still think it's not fair that Isaac didn't make you do any schoolwork."

"Perks of being smart." I muttered. "Now go away and let me read my book in peace."

"No." Kit said, resting his legs on the back of the couch. He leaned back until he was upside down. "I haven't seen you in two years. I wanna know what's up."

An idea struck me and I nodded slowly, pretending to still be reluctant. I carefully bookmarked the page and set it next to me. "Okay, fine. You go first."

He thought for a minute. "What's your favourite colour?"

"Black and Purple." I replied. "What's yours?"

"Green. Favourite book?"

"Too many to choose from. You?"

"Same here. What do you want for your birthday?"

"Nothing." He shot me a look and I raised my hands in mock surrender. "It's true! I genuinely want nothing." I pretended to think for a moment. "Hmm... can I ask two questions? They're both kind of related and you can ask me two on the next round."

"Sure." Kit shrugged. "Fire away."

"Why did you kill those guys in the alleyway that day you kidnapped me? And why did Mantennii come to you for finding me?"

Kit froze and then realisation dawned on him. "You were waiting to ask that question, weren't you?"

I shrugged. "Maybe."

"I-" Kit was cut off by a weird static noise coming from somewhere. We exchanged confused looks and tried to pinpoint where it was coming from.

Kit frowned and put his hand under the couch. His eyes widened and he pulled out a small black object- just like the one Zac found earlier. Microphone.

Fear expanded in my stomach like a helium balloon as Kit repeatedly stomped on the piece of technology. I thought back to our conversations earlier today.

"She knows." I said, my voice barely louder than a whisper.

"What?"

"My mother." I swallowed. "She knows where I am."

Kit frowned. "How can she- oh." He inhaled sharply. "This is bad. Really, really bad."

"Hey Arya and Idiot." Caleb entered the room, then stopped. "Why do you guys look like you've seen a ghost?"
