There are monsters in my head,

and they're more terrible than what you think.

They creep when I think I'm safe,

and they take over before I can even blink.

I'll be standing among the people I call friends,

when suddenly I can hear them in my ear.

Whispering all of my forgotten worries,

and feeding off my deepest and darkest fears.

"You aren't really good enough,

they can barely stand being by your side."

"Don't speak, you're annoying,

stop fighting, you know we're right."

So I'll shut my mouth,

and end up letting them win.

But the monsters in my head aren't yet done,

So they'll remind me of all my sins.

"You aren't worth standing here now,

you haven't always done what's right.

"Who are you to think you deserve saving,

when all these darknesses have clouded your sight?"

And sometimes I'll put up a struggle,

but usually I just stand back and allow them to speak.

Because it's a lot more exhausting,

battling all these voices than you think.

See, there are monsters in my head,

oh, they're more sinister than you could ever believe.

They creep up when I'm not watching,

and take over my mind before I can even blink
