"Leave with everyone else how? —look listen madison, Send Power home I can fly him back out occasionally depending on the length of this ordeal. There's technology you can utilize and talk to him."

"I am not sending my child there. I can't risk not being to touch him I've never been away from him. I asked of you one favor to enroll power into school here and put Allure in Daycare. I don't want Angela anywhere near her or them—not the way she feels."

"Angela didn't mean what she said trust me Madison." Rick pleaded.

"Well I'm not risking it."

"Look madison -look ill do whatever to lessen your stress. Today I'll set up some appointments to visit some private schools—."

"Private schools, Rick I can't afford that."

"I can madison, I want him in the best of schools."

"I can't pay you back Rick , I can't allow you to do anymore. My parents told me we aren't paying you. I had no idea."

"—you can pay me in forgiveness." Rick uttered, causing us both to come to a silence.

"Forgiveness?— forgive you for what exactly, Rick?" I stuttered trying to get my words out.

Rick instantly rethought his words as he turned walking to his desk, "for whatever it is you hate me so much for, I miss just being there for you Madison."

I exhaled realizing he was avoiding the initial conversation.

"I don't hate you. I've learned from you and want you to do the same. —look I can't change what happened, and neither can you. But—I can't hold a grudge forever. You were right, we do need one another."

Rick folded his bottom lip nodding in compliance as he finally locked eyes with me and in that moment it said everything.

"I want to make things right." He began, "I wanna support you and be in Allure's life."

"Rick I don't think that's a good idea. Please bare with me. I don't know how to tell my dad and — Angela doesn't deserve this—."

"— she knows already Madison, it's time for me to step up to the plate and make up for lost time."

"No rick—please— can we not do this right now."

"If not now, then promise me we will."

I exhaled. "Rick only time will tell. Please just let's focus on the now."

Rick began to nod and without any rejection we allowed the silence to speak, the unspoken amongst us.

After putting Allure to bed, something within me dialed steph's number. As I sat on the edge of the bed, awaiting his answer after only three rings he picked up.

"Hello beautiful?" His voice echoed, in a yet surprised and subtle tone.

"Hi Steph." I blushed trying to gather my words.

"I'm glad you actually called me. Made my night woman. How you doing?"

I sighed as his words caused the happiness inside of me to turn into a feeling of nostalgia.

I hummed, "good ... I guess."

"I know you ain't Madison." He replied in a soothing tone that caught me off guard.

"Excuse me?"

"I heard."

"Heard what?" I replied a bit confused.

"Things really tough for you and the kids right now. But I want you to know I really meant that I'm here for you if you need me. I've been where you at, a time before." Steph explained causing my heart to race in fear that he knew what was happening.

I rose to my feet, with my legs feeling like jello as I walked over to the walk-in closet taking a lean against the inner wall.

Questioning, "been where, what do mean Steph. I don't want to talk in circles."

"Madison I know you shot powers dad. Couple teachers were talking about it at the school. But it's no sweat you're in everyone's prayers. I barely know you but I know if you did something like that you had good reason to. —look im not trying to be in ya business or sweat you, I'm tryna be a stable place you can turn at a time like this and believe that shit go be aiight. Like I said I've been there before. On trial with my life in the balance. I know you a great mom and from the first day I met you I could tell you'd do anything to protect your babies and I respect that. So if you need me or anything let me know Madison. Fareal I'm really trying to be there for you at any cost."

I slowly slid down the sheet rock beige wall, allowing the matching beige carpeting catch me as I took in each word he said trying to make sense of everything.

"—you there?" Asked Steph after a long pause.

"—yeah, yes I'm here."

"Aiight."  He chuckled. "Cool then cuz I ain't tryna lose you, look why don't you let me come out and see you. I hear you in L.a I ain't been there since 1995' it's time I see my old stomping grounds."

"Look Steph."

"Madison." He interrupted firmly. "Don't give me the old pep talk, this is what I want to do. Just— just let me lead the way and you follow for once. I know it's hard for you to trust someone and I understand that, but atleast if you ain't go let me in, let yourself out that way you can't get hurt."

His words soaked through me like a sponge in water as I received a tingly feeling I had never felt before. It was weird yet good. After all I was going through and had been through, I was willing to take a chance for myself once.

"You really would come all the way across the world for me?"

"Well you do owe me a meal."   Steph cracked making us both chuckle in unison.

"I don't know Steph... I really don't know."

"Good then, let me be the one that does. I'll see you in 48 hours, okay?"

"Okay." I hummed not even taking a second thought.
