When I came to I was laying on the couch with my head in someone's lap. I looked up at Rain. She half-smiled at me, but her blue eyes looked furious.

I pushed the wet washcloth off my forehead and sat up. "Ugh," I grabbed for my head. It was throbbing.

"You fainted." Rain stated the obvious. Thanks, Rain.

"Where's..." I trailed off seeing Jamie standing at the end of the couch.

Rain and Jamie tried to wait for each other out, but unfortunately, it looked like Jamie was winning. They were having this sort of stare war. Which was ridiculous because they both seemed like they were too mature for something like that.

I just sat there silent trying not to look at either of them. I wasn't happy that she let him in my house. I had locked all the doors and windows and then she just let the crazy in.

Not that I really thought he was crazy anymore. He just seemed like a mystery, and I really needed to know what was going on. I was sure he could give me those answers.

Rain's phone rang. I knew it was Michael of course, and he wanted to meet her somewhere. She always used this little adorable voice and giggled a lot when she talked to him. So I figured.

I wanted to smile. Rain and Michael were like the perfect couple. They were too cute together. I wanted what she had. A loving relationship.

But that wasn't the point, I thought to try to clear my mind and looked over at Jamie just standing at the end of the couch. He was looking at a picture on the mantle of when I was eight with my mom and dad before they divorced. I got up and turned the picture down. I didn't like him looking at it.

Rain looked over at me, pushing her blond hair out of her face. She obviously wanted to go be with Michael and somewhere along the line, she decided that Jamie wasn't a threat. "Would you like me to stay until he leaves?"

I glanced at Jamie. He seemed harmless and I was really starting to wonder how all this happened anyways. So, I nodded no. Maybe he was right and I should have just talked about it in the first place. "It's okay. You can go."

She looked at me for a minute and then reluctantly went. As she passed Jamie she warned him not to hurt me or her high heel would go where the sun didn't shine. He didn't seem fazed by it and just looked over at me as she went out the door.

I knew I should've probably made her stay but she said she was just a phone call away and if he tried anything at all she would have the cops here in no time. I didn't think we would need to resort to that though. He didn't seem crazy.

"She seems very unpleasant to be around." He smiled a little, I knew he was joking but I couldn't return it. The cheerfulness anyways. This was still very awkward, and I still didn't feel comfortable with him being in my home.

I sat down on the couch feeling jumbled, and out of my comfort zone. I looked over at him. I wanted to ask him all these questions.

"Peyton," Jamie's voice was soft and grabbed my attention. He came over to sit down beside me on the couch which made me scoot over even closer to the armrest. "Are you alright? You're acting so frightened."

I looked up into his jade eyes and nearly crumbled. He wasn't touching me, but I felt tingly as if he had. He had such a nice smile and now it was gone. He looked concerned, and it was because of me.

I knew I couldn't keep on not telling him I was clueless. "I don't remember anything. I don't remember you, or being married to you. Rain says I've been gone for two weeks, and I don't remember any of that either."

His lips parted a little but he didn't say anything. I wondered if he was having a hard time processing it, as I had. We just stared at each other for a few minutes, until he began to say something. "I guess that..." He was cut off by the front door opening.

We both looked that way, and there was my mother kicking off her shoes by the mantle. She looked up surprised and finally noticed us.

"Peyton!" She noticed Jamie first of course but looked straight at me. I could tell she wasn't too happy either. "Where have you been? I've been so worried."

"Uh," I started. She was looking at Jamie now, and he was looking back at her. She still had on her scrubs and looked worn out. Mom worked at a children's hospital and I never really knew when she would be home.

Jamie chimed in all of a sudden surprising me. "I brought her home."

"From where? Where have you been these past weeks?"

"There's this very exclusive internship in New York my dad's company is hosting, and Peyton won a raffle, and got flown out all expenses paid. I'm sorry she's not been in contact with this whole time. It's just been really hectic, and all." Jamie stood up and walked over to the door where mom was standing. I couldn't believe it but she looked surprised and seemed to accept his word as the truth. Why was he lying for me? There was no way that happened.

Then I remembered that he said he was my husband and that wasn't something we could tell her. Wow, that just sounded really weird to say/think. Husband...

I shook my head. I didn't want a husband. Not yet anyway, I was only seventeen. Like Rain said I didn't even have a boyfriend.

Mom collected herself quickly and looked right at me. "We will be talking about this, you're obviously grounded indefinitely." And then she turned on Jamie. "Thank you for returning my daughter but I think you should leave."

"It was nice meeting you." Jamie smiled at her and then went out the front door. Mom just stood there a minute. If I didn't know better I'd say she was a little dazzled by him. He was nice to look at...

It was short-lived though because she turned to me and said. "You had me terribly worried, Peyton." She was definitely pissed off but then she pulled me into a tight hug. "Don't ever do that again. I was so worried something had happened to you. You could have at least called me."

"I know, mom. I'm sorry. I won't ever do it again." I hated hurting my mom, but it wasn't intentional. She spent the next few minutes grilling me with questions about this exclusive internship. I wasn't really sure what to say and I hated lying to my mom.

"It was all so sudden. I didn't have time to wrap my head around it. It wasn't really all it was cracked up to be. I ended up being the errand girl and got coffee. So when my two weeks were up and they offered more time there I wanted to come home."

She just listened. I didn't know if she bought it, but I was exhausted. Today was too eventful, and apparently I was now married. Which made me feel super uneasy even if my supposed husband was this tall handsome guy.

She seemed to have bought it because she just hugged me again, and said to go get cleaned up for dinner. Said we could talk some more.

I didn't complain. I had left for two weeks and not told anyone. The least I could do was not argue.

As I went upstairs I thought about how weird it was Jamie had somehow gone from creeper to hero in one fell swoop. He honestly just seemed like a nice guy who somehow ran across an oddball like me, and we got into this mess of things. Strangely it made me smile a little and I wondered when I would see him again.
