"I'm happy to report it was aftershocks of the miscarriage. Thankfully, these will not affect Hayley in any permanent way."

"Unfortunately, Mr DuGray, we've found some rather alarming signs and we will have to keep Hayley in for further testing."

"I'm sorry, Mr DuGray. There were some...complications. She didn't make it."

Tristin sat, shakily, in the seat next to Hayley's bed, after kissing her softly on the head.

"Mr DuGray, Miss Jones, I've been looking at both the results of the tests from earlier, and also your medical history. I think I may know what's causing these," the doctor explained.

Tristin nodded, "what is it, doc?"

"My theory may be incorrect, and I don't want to worry you..."

Hayley cleared her throat, "can you just tell us? We can take it."

The doctor smiled at her, "some of the signs you have are pointing to—" the doctor began.

"Ovarian cancer?" Hayley supplied.

The doctor looked at her, shocked, "that is what I was going to say. How did you know?"

Hayley shrugged slightly, looking down at her and Tristin's hands intertwined, "after the miscarriage, I thought I would look some things up."

"Miss Jones, you may not have ovarian cancer, and if you do, it's not a guaranteed lifeline," the doctor told her.

"Will we be able to have kids? In the future, if she does have..." Tristin trailed off.

"Not naturally. But we have programmes to help you have children, if that's what you'd like," the doctor told them, "but for now, I've booked you in for some scans, and we'd like to keep you in for a couple of nights to keep an eye on you."

"Ok," Hayley nodded.

"I'll leave you two alone for a little," The doctor smiled, walking out.

The two sat in silence for a little, not knowing what to say.

"You want kids a lot, don't you?" Hayley asked.

"Don't worry about that for now," Tristin told her.

"You brought it up," Hayley snapped. She pulled her hand out of his.

"Hayley!" Tristin said, confused, "I was just asking. For the future."

"I was thinking about t earlier, and I think I know what to do about that," Hayley muttered, quietly, "I think you should be with someone who can give you what you want."

"What...what do you mean?"

"You want to have kids, right? Tristin, I had a miscarriage. I might have cancer. Even if we do have kids one day, it will only be after several attempts and lots of heartbreak," Hayley explained, "you shouldn't have to go through that."

"Hayley, baby, what are you saying?" Tristin swallowed and felt tears from behind his eyes.

"You should be with someone who can give you what you want," Hayley said without emotion.

"I want you," Tristin said.

"I'm not enough," Hayley told him.

"Yes, you are. You are enough. Please don't do this to me," Tristin begged her.

"Tristin, I think you should leave," she told him.

"No, Hayley," he demanded.

"Tristin. Please," she whispered, sounding weaker than she wanted to.

Tristin nodded and stood up, shakily. He reached the door and turned back to her, "we're not over. I'm not giving us up."

She stared straight ahead until he was gone. Then she let herself cry and cry and cry.

Jess and Liv were lay in Liv's hospital bed, their baby lay in between them, sleeping. Lorelai had gone home to shower and change and to let Luke know they were coming back tomorrow.

"I spoke to the estate agents, but they told me that someone has picked up the keys to the house for us," Jess told her.

"What?" She asked, trying to keep her voice soft, "Who?"

"Luke. He called me when I got off the phone to them and said he's got them for us," Jess told her, trying not to smile at the fact he was the one who told him to pick them up.

"We don't have anything in the house! We should probably just stay at my moms house until the house is finished," Liv sighed.

"I'm sorry, Liv. I know how much you wanted to move in before she came," Jess said.

"Well, I'm not really complaining that Miss Mariano decided she wanted to come out early," Liv smiled, fondly.

Jess chuckled at how much Liv adored her already, "I'm kinda fed up of her only being in here, though," Jess said.

"She'll be out tomorrow," Liv grinned.

"I was thinking, you come out in the morning, right? Why don't we spend the morning at your grandparents, and then go and see my mom and TJ before we get back?" Jess suggested, hoping she would say yes.

"Sure. I know grandma and grandpa want to meet her. And Liz and TJ are probably dying to meet their granddaughter," Liv agreed.

They were startled by a knock at the door, and they looked up to where Tristin was stood, looking like a wreck.

"Tristin? What's happened? Come in," Liv told him.

"Hayley might have ovarian cancer," he told them.

Liv's hand flew to her mouth, "what?"

"She's having some scans," he told them.

Jess looked at him carefully, "what else has happened?"

"She broke up with me."

"Excuse me?" Liv gasped.

"I told her we weren't done before I left. I'm in love with her, I'm not gonna let her just drop me," Tristin told them, "I think she thinks I've gone, but I'm not going anywhere."

"Maybe I should go and talk to her," Liv suggested.

"I think that would be good," Tristin nodded.

Liv looked down at the baby hesitantly, and Jess laughed, "she'll be here when you get back."

"I know I just don't wanna leave her," Liv pouted.

"She'll be ok. Let me get you your wheelchair," Jess said.

Liv sat herself in her chair, and Tristin wheeled her down.

"Are you gonna wait here or go back to my room?" Liv asked.

"I'll wait here," Tristin told her.

"Ok," Liv nodded, "hey. It's gonna be ok."

"I know," he smiled unconvincingly.

Liv pushes herself into Hayley's room, to see her crying.

"Hey, you," Liv said, softly.

Hayley sniffed and looked up at her best friend, "hey, Liv. How's my goddaughter?"

"Well, today she decided she wants a belly button piercing and tomorrow she's off to Italy," Liv joked.

Hayley smiled weakly, "they grow up so fast."

Liv laughed, and then sighed, "Tristin told me what the doctor said. I'm sorry, Hay. But nothing's definite, yet. Right?"

"No, nothing's definite, but...I have all of the symptoms. All the signs are here," Hayley shrugged.

"Don't think like that," Liv pointed, "no matter what, you've got me. And Tristin."

"Didn't he tell you?" Hayley asked.

"He told me. He also told me he's not letting you break up with him," Liv smiled.

"I just gathered it would save the heartache," Hayley shrugged, looking down and biting her lip.

"I think he's hurting now more than any other time," Liv told her, "he loves you to bits, Hay! And you do too."

"I know, but it's not fair on him," Hayley sighed.

"Well, he's not going anywhere," Liv said.

"Wait, is he still here?" Hayley asked.

"Perhaps," Liv teased, "he doesn't want to leave you, even after you tried to leave him."

Hayley stayed quiet, not wanting to look at Liv, "I just don't want him to get hurt."

"Well, he is," Liv said, bluntly, "look, I'm being discharged tomorrow, but I'll come by if you need anything. Just call me, ok?"

"Ok," she smiled a little.

Liv managed to wheel herself out of the room, and Tristin helped her once she was out, "is she ok?"

"Not really. She didn't say this to me explicitly, but I know my best friend and she regrets what she did. Just give her a little time," Liv told him.

"I'll try," Tristin sighed. When they got back to the room, he turned to leave, "I'm gonna go and sit outside her room or something."

Tristin left and Jess helped Liv back into the bed, "Jess, I'm fine; I'm not gonna break. I'm just tired."

"Get some sleep. Soon enough, we'll be out of here," Jess told her.

"Ok," she smiled. Looking at her daughter lay in Jess' arms, she kissed her forehead, "goodnight, Ava Lorelai Mariano. I love you," she whispered. Slipping her hand into Jess', she looked up at him, "and I love you too."

Finally updated! Took me ages, I've been a bit slow with updates. We're Crazy hasn't been updated for ages, so I'm hoping to get that up tonight or tomorrow. And credits go to the amazing xxhechpaxx for Ava's name. Enjoy xoxo
