Noah sat in front of the principal's desk, his hands tightly squeezed together while the two strange men studied him through their sunglasses. Mr. Acorn was asked to wait outside, which Noah thought was quite ironic considering that this was supposed to be his office.

"Noah Sorin, is that correct?" asked the man standing on the left, breaking the deafening silence.

"Yes," he squeaked. The man gave him a friendly smile while the one sitting beside him had a constant frown.

"How are you? How is school? Not too difficult, I hope?"

"Great," he said, answering the questions altogether. "May I please ask why I'm here?"

"Right, yes, of course," replied the man. "I suppose we should start by introducing ourselves. My name is Carl. This is my partner, Geo, and we work for the FBI."

Noah blinked in surprise. Did I just hear right? Did he say that they worked for the... FBI?'

He glanced towards the man with dark hair and a square jaw, the one named Geo, who remained silent and solemn.

"We work with a special branch of the FBI, one that isn't very well-known since we investigate top secret cases that involve... Particular cases," Carl explained.

"Am I in trouble?" Noah slowly asked. He didn't understand what Carl meant by particular cases.

"Not at all!" Carl answered. "Actually, we're here because your profile peaked our interest. In a good way, of course."

Carl took out a file from his suitcase and slid it towards Noah and he slowly opened it, confused by what was inside. The file was a list of receipts of all his grades and school achievements since elementary.

"We've gone through your student profile," explained Carl. "You're a remarkable student, brilliant even. All of your grades are perfect and you've never missed an hour of class."

"Um, yes, thank you." Noah still didn't know how to react.

"I was surprised by how good of a student-"

"Carl, we don't have all day. Just tell the boy why he's here," Geo interrupted in a much less friendly voice.

"We're supposed to do this subtly. He's just a kid," Carl snapped.

"Yes. A brilliant kid who's going to investigate for us," Geo said. Noah's brows furrowed.

"Investigate?" he asked. Nothing made sense to him.

"Geo, you can't just blurt it out like that!" But Geo ignored him, his eyes focused on Noah.

"We work for a branch in the FBI that looks into supernatural cases," Geo explained. "I'm sure you've heard about the missing students in Bran Prep High?"

Noah shrunk in his seat and nodded.

"We've been looking for a student with a perfect profile that fits the school's standards. You're one of the rare teenagers of this country that fits their strict quotas."

"You want me to transfer school?" Noah blurted in shock.

"And investigate."

"I think we should take things slower," Carl murmured to his partner. But once again, Geo ignored me.

"Noah, you're a smart kid, real smart. So tell me, who do you think are kidnapping the students in Bran Prep High?"

"Um, man-eating hamsters?" gulped Noah. Carl burst into laughter, slapping his knee as he shook his head. Geo remained still, his humor as dry as his lips.

"Man-eating hamsters, that's a good one," Carl said, nudging Geo.

"Vampires," corrected Geo. "Vampires are the ones kidnapping the students."

"But vampires don't exist."

"Noah," he said in his deep, serious voice. "You have to understand that there are many things in this world that shouldn't exist but do, things that defy the laws of logic and that can't be explained by simple numbers or equations."

"Like vampires?" Noah murmured.

"And werewolves and witches and goblins and-"

Noah's lips parted and Carl quickly cleared in voice.

"We'll start with vampires," he suggested.

Noah bit his lower lip, still trying to let the idea that supernatural creatures actually existed. "If vampires really do exist, why do you want me to investigate for you? Like you said, I'm just a kid."

"We can't send a grown man to a high school, it'll create too much suspicion," Geo explained. "What we need is someone who will blend in easily without getting caught. However, we can't go into details about the investigation until you and your parents sign this contract."

Noah felt like all of this was a slap to the face. The FBI? Vampires? An investigation?

He waited for someone to jump out from under the desk with a camera and shout, "You've just been pranked!" Unfortunately, all that was under Mr. Acorn's desk was gum that Micka secretly stuck under there the last time he was called down to the office.

"My parents won't believe me if I tell them about you guys and that vampires exist," he said, remembering how his mom thought that the reporter from this morning was ridiculous when she spoke about vampires. "They'll never take me seriously."

"It's a top secret mission, which means that no one else but you can know," Carl explained. "This contract only indicates that you're transferring schools. They'll think that you've been offered an opportunity to attend one of the most prestigious high schools, nothing more, nothing less."

"Bran Prep High is a four hour train ride, they'd never let me go so far away."

"It's the best school in the region, they'd be delighted."

"We don't have enough to pay tuition," he implied, trying to find whatever excuse he could.

"It'll be covered by the government."

"What if I refuse?" Noah said. Geo and Carl both shared a glance before turning back towards Noah who stiffened.

"Your best friend is Micka Kowski, right?" Geo pried.

"Never heard of him." The lie came out as smooth as butter.

"Well, according to these records, you two have been living in the same neighborhood since you were toddlers. Your parents also went to the same university," said Geo, taking out more papers from his suitcase. "We dug into Micka's past and we've noticed that he has some... Behavioral issues."

'He has a short temper, that's all,' Noah argued to himself, but he kept his mouth sealed.

"Crashing cars, getting into fights, vandalizing school property..." Geo started reading an entire list. "But he's always gotten off the hook."

Noah gulped.

"If we send this list." Geo waved the pile of papers in his hand. "Micka could be sent to juvenile prison."

"That's unfair!" Noah cried. "You can't bring him into this, he's done nothing wrong."

"We fight crime with crime," Geo simply said. "You'll be surprised by how little justice this world has."

Carl gave Noah a sympathetic smile. "We'll give you some time to think about it."

There was nothing to think about. They weren't giving Noah a choice.

"We'd like this contract signed by tomorrow. Mr. Acorn will meet with your parents in the upcoming days to discuss how great of an opportunity you were given. The fees, the dorms, the food, everything will be paid by us," said Geo. "As for the investigation, you'd do best not to mention it. We'll talk about it in private after the papers are signed."

"But-"

"We don't know who let these vampires out, but we're going to get the bottom of it," Geo said. The line on his lips softened and he attempted to give Noah a small smile. "You're going to do great things, kid. You're going to save lives."

Noah frowned. 'Yes, but for the price of mine.'

Btw, should I make a cast chapter with pictures & details of the characters like I did in "The Class Prince?" Or do you guys prefer imagining the characters yourselves?
