The silence was addicting.

It was also soothing, calming. But not for Ryder, the alpha that was cruel when it came to his siblings. He was crueler, roothless and he despised the Mother Nature as much as he did despise his brother that had managed somehow to return in this small city from his 'small' vacation around Pennsylvania. Things only seemed to get even more complicated with all these murder cases and the police force not competent enough to find proper evidence against that killer.

The alpha couldn't feel the pain in his palm from his own nails digging into his flesh. Small red drops of blood dropped on the marble floor, leaving very noticeable trail of dark red liquid. His office was large, larger than any other house in this city.

Sitting on his large chair made from real leather, the alpha's bushy eyebrows were furrowed and a worry lines were forming between his eyes — lips pursed together and jaw locked so tightly that it was going to break if he put enough pressure on it.

Ah, that damn silence.

Ryder couldn't stop thinking about what happened earlier. Why did his brother had to come here and distract him, better yet, he should've stayed away for a little bit.

The alpha leaned back on his seat, a few buttons of his white shirt unbuttoned as his collarbones and neck were exposed. His soft caramel skin was carved with different black ink that seemed to peak through his shirt. Ryder mostly wore black jackets so nobody could see his tattoos, but it wasn't like omegas weren't falling at his feet the first chance they got.

He rolled his eyes, putting his pointer finger with a large silver ring on his own red from biting lips and kept gazing through the view of the window. The weather in California seemed to get worse. Dark plush clouds covered the usual blue sky and a fog surrounded the streets and it was only the middle of June.

"Brother? " Ryder immediately whipped his head toward the door, eyes darkening more at the sight of the tall slim muscular figure of his brother that seemed to invite himself in Ryder's office without asking for permission. Leo Ryder was Devon's nightmare because ever since they were young boys, their mother seemed to pay more attention to Leo since he was younger.

"What. " Ryder snapped angrily at his younger sibling, teeth gritting and nostrils flaring.

"Are you perhaps protective of that omega you dragged here? " Leo leaned on the doorframe, arms crossed against his chest and biceps bulging under the movements. Of course, Leo had much brighter skin than Devon's as their eye color was different too. Devon had taken his father's eyes, warm brown, and his brother from his mother — forest green, but despite that, they were similar with their short messy chocolate brown hair, plush lips and stubbled sharp jaws.

"No, I am not. " he snapped at Leo and his hand went to pinch the bridge of his nose as he tried to calm the newly raising anger in his chest.

"Yes you are. I never thought that you'd buy such a low class omega. He smells like whore. " Leo added in a snarky tone, completely aware of his brother's frustration and raising anger. Both of them were alphas, both of them fought for dominance the first chance they got. Ryder slowly lifted his head, brown eyes darkening, becoming almost black, just like a fierce storm ready to take over the Sea.

The loud screech of a chair echoed into the room as Ryder rose up on his feet and his fist slammed over his wooden desk.

"Get out!" he yelled, voice becoming raspier and eyes changing from pitch black to bloody red. Leo's lips stretched into a winning smirk as he shook his head, ready to challenge Ryder further.

"I am not one of the omegas, brother. I do not fucking comply to every single wish of yours, nor do I fall at your feet and beg you for forgiveness. "

Ryder was a little taller than his younger brother, and stronger as well. Much stronger. He had the ability to shift into a large black demonic wolf during full moon and go into rut once per two months which was the weakness of his. He was vulnerable at that time, and he had to get himself more medicine in order to keep his pheromones and wolf side balanced. A low growl escaped from his lips and in seconds Ryder had Leo pressed against the wall, his elbow digging into his brother's neck roughly.

Leo parted his lips in shock and his eyes widened slightly.

"Do not challenge me." After a few seconds of silence between the two brothers, Ryder finally pulled away. He was breathing through his nose and his nostrils were flaring from all of the raising hatred and anger slowly bottling up in him.

Leo stood there, feeling how his back had dug a large hole into the wall.

"Mother would have made you fix that hole on the wall you just made, brother. " Leo spoke in a cocky voice as he ran his fingers through his brown hair before heading out from the room.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck. " Ryder cursed once he was left alone into the room. He was ready to throw whatever he found, to destroy everything. Leo lived to simply mock him and anger him all the damn time.

The alpha was lost in his thoughts when the sound of a ringing phone echoed in the office. The loud ringtone almost made Ryder's head impossibly heavy. Or it was because of the need to kill his own brother for a second? He had no clue.

"What is it, Jenkins? " Devon spoke into the speaker once he was sat back at his seat and his finger pressed the green button.

"Alpha, we have the results from the fingertip examination from the card you gave..."

"And? —" he spoke lowly in his usual alpha tone.

"—There are absolutely no traces of fingertips on it."

"Dammit!" he yelled in frustration, leaning on his chair, fists balled. Ryder knew that the killer was smart. Of course it wouldn't be this fucking easy to catch him. Why would it be?

"Fuck, fine. Let's meet in front of the Hospital tomorrow to check the body out for other clues. "

"Alright, Alpha. " his voice was raspier than usual, this was odd. But Ryder didn't pay much attention to it so he quickly hang up the phone and tugged on his hair in frustration.

Taking a glimpse at his wrist watch he noticed it was ten past one in the morning so he decided to go back into his bedroom and simply lay down. This was a frustrating day and the omega that was now in his house was enough to break him down along with his brothers's sudden arrival.

Ryder locked securely his office before heading down the long hallway decorated with old lights and paintings. He shoved carelessly his hands into the pockets of his slacks as he passed the rooms — the room at the bottom of the hallway was his, he did not allow anyone to get inside of his bedroom however.  Only a single maid called Rita came in and that was it. He had trust in her since she would never steal from him. She was a beta, orphan and Ryder took her under his wing so he trusted her because he had raised her for some period of time.

Passing down one of the bedrooms, he'd hear a loud banging from the inside. His bushy eyebrows furrowed as he took a few steps back and pulled his set of keys he had for each room—security purposes and all.

After unlocking, he pushed the door open. It was a large guest bedroom, the bed was not touched and his eyes immediately focused on the omega standing by the window. He was holding a chair in his hands , obviously intending on breaking it.

"If you do that, you'll most certainly die." Devon spoke in a low voice, blinking a few times at the omega. The room was filled with the scent of mint and rain. It made Devon dizzy. What was an omega doing at a crime scene filled with betas and some alphas?

"It's not too high." the omega spoke. How dared he speak back at an alpha? Devon clenched his jaw.

"No, not by that. . . " he muttered bitterly. " But from my fucking teeth shredding your throat like a piece of skin."

The dark haired male slowly put down the chair he was holding and a shaky breath escaped from his lips, the alpha sensed that and tilted his head to the side. It was a talent of his to sniff the fear coming off anyone.

"Be a good boy, stay here and don't cause me problems, because I will lock you down into the dungeon I have with no food nor water, understood?" he ordered in his low alpha voice, expecting his pheromones to work on the omega.

"I am not afraid from you—Devon Ryder."

The alpha let out a bark of laughter, it was bitter, it was rushed, not sincere at all. He slowly took a few steps forward, noticing that the omega was a little shorter than him, but nonetheless with well-built body. It was partly fascinating.

"Nor am I afraid from you. " he muttered lowly. "You are mine now. I own your body and your mind. There won't be another warning next time you try to escape. " he murmured and a sinister grin appeared on Ryder's lips once the omega took a few steps back but never let his eyes fall from the alpha's intent gaze. Was Devon good in scaring the omega off? Perhaps. He wasn't interested in him at all, but he liked seeing the fear in his eyes.

The silence between them was slowly becoming so full of tension that made Devon suffocate.  Without another warning and not giving a chance for the omega to talk back, Devon stormed out from the bedroom. He did not forget to lock the door securely and with long strides he headed toward his bedroom. Somehow his chest tightened with warmth he never felt before. And that honestly scared him.

Throughout the entire night, despite the warm shower he took, he could not get any sleep. The mere picture of the dead woman hanging so grotesque behind the scenes of the place was still  in his mind and it was like a never ending cycle of horror. He had no clue what to do, but he was sure for one thing: he'd find the killer. Sooner or later.

Little did he knew, that the killer was right under his nose.

When the morning came, Devon was already dressed in his usual attire that consisted of black buttoned up shirt securely tucked into a pair of grey slacks and a black coat on top. His hair was messed up as usual, he was not in a mood to shave so he let his beard grow. Brown eyes were dark and determined for the upcoming day and things that might happen, who knew, he might catch the killer today?

What a fucking joke.

Rolling the keys to his black SUV around his slim tattooed fingers whilst going downstairs, he could hear Leo's laughter in the kitchen. Fucking great. He had no desire to go there anymore so he headed toward the large doors leading to the garage. He tried to make his brother get the fuck out of his mansion but it was as if Leo was a fucking parasite not wanting to go anywhere.

Once inside his car, he took a deep breath. He had to focus.

Soon the car let out a low purring noise before the doors of the garage opened.

"Devon!" Jenkins called out once he saw the alpha approaching him.

"It's Alpha, Jenkins. We are not friends. Don't call me by my first name. " The alpha muttered bitterly. His mood was bad still from last night. The old man cleared his throat and took his police hat off, rubbing his bald scalp nervously.

"I apologize, alpha. Uh, we. . .found something. "

Devon was looking throughout some files that Jenkins had given him as soon as he had arrived. Both of them had a meeting in front of St.Valentia Hospital for some reason. The alpha was confused but he didn't budge. His brown eyes bore holes in Jenkins's old wrinkly face, filled with expectation.

"What did you found?"

"Well—let's go to the morgue so you see by yourself. "

His hands itched and chest burned with excitement. Was that it? A small part of him was happy, and the bigger part, the considerate one and the realistic one told him that this was a lie. The killer was playing with them and that was for sure.

"Dr.Thomson" Ryder greeted with low gruff voice, trying to be polite. The short female with grey hair pulled up in a perfect bun and glasses larger than her face nodded at them in response, her grey eyes shifting from one man to the other.

"It's good to see you after all this time, Alpha Ryder." she murmured politely. Jenkins quirked an eyebrow and looked around the passing nurses and patiens at the hallway. Devon grinned slightly and licked his lips.

"It's good to see you as well. " he spoke quietly. The woman knew that the alpha was not one for a chat so she decided to get to the chase. Without more words being exchanged, Dr.Thomson led them to the Morgue.

It was clean and smelled like bleach. The alpha didn't gag but Jenkins did. There were at least five bodies laid on large tables, covered in white cloths. Only their faces could be seen.

"Are these all victims of the Omega Killer?"

Jenkins nodded his head, covering his mouth and nose with his hand. It was obvious that he could not stand the smell of bleach at all.

"A lot of murders for such a short span of time." Devon spoke bitterly, putting his hands on his own waist.

Dr. Thomson sighed and shook her head. "All of them are based on a different way of killing,"

"But the killer is the same. . ." Jenkins cut her off and he received a glare from Ryder.

The elderly woman glanced between Devon and Jenkins before speaking out again, not missing the chance to readjust the glasses on her nose.

"But we found hair samples under the newest victim's nails. " she finished.

Devon's fingertips grazed over the dead omega's flesh, it was cold like ice. The alpha hummed.

"Do you have the results?" he asked, focused on examining her body for further wounds and bruises.

"We do. . . " Dr.Thomson said as she gave him a large folder from the small desk at the corner of the morgue. Ryder's heart started racing. This was it??

He bit his lower lip and opened the folder, his dark eyes scanned the words, he was also reading between the lines.

"This is not possible. . ." he whispered lowly, lower lip shaking and nostrils flaring. He felt like he was going to be fucking sick.

RYDER, LEO

was written on the test results with big bald letters.
