warning: mental breakdown, a little description of murder.

----

The weather didn't had its usual glow today.

It was dark, depressing, lifeless. Thick clouds covered the usual bright blue sky, no birds were chirpping, no people were laughing. There was only the howling of the cold wind.

"Today we've gathered to send one beautiful soul that unfortunately left us so early from Earth..." a short man dressed in black suit spoke loudly, everyone gathered there were dressed in black as well.

Black was not a happy color.

It hid people's griefs. It hid their pain. Unfortunately it couldn't hide their tears. Weeping was mixed with the priest's ramblings about Lana. Men and women sniffled, sobbed. It almost looked like one beautiful tragedy.

Almost.

One of those people was Jason. He wore the black suit Lana had bought him for their first anniversary, and now, he wore it to her funeral. He couldn't believe it. He was still in shock. How could this happen? His heart was crushed completely after he heard the news about Lana's death.

His dark locks of hair were a complete mess, his face was paler than the marble and the dark circles only added to his complexion.

Jason stared blankly at the casket and the picture of his ex-lover displayed for everyone to see and say goodbye to. She was beautiful as always. So so beautiful. There was a sudden sting in Jason's heart. It was as if the realization ahd sank in. He was never going to see her again nor hear her voice. Tears began streaming down his pale cheeks, he tried to hide it, he really did, but he couldn't.

On either sides of him were the two brothers. They stared at the black casket covered with white and red roses. No words were said that day.

No words needed to be said.

Jason was hurting. The brothers saw that but had no idea how to comfort him, they came from emotionally unavailable parents so for them, the grief and the sadness was something they did not recognize. Leo and Devon looked at each other then back at the omega between them.

Leo reached to place his hand on one of Jason's shoulders, but gave up. He didn't know how the omega would react. And Devon? He was just standing like a statue. Funerals weren't his thing. But he promised to be there for Jason's support.

He had no idea how long has it been since he met the omega, months perhaps? Devon would never admit it out loud but somehow he grew bold of the omega. Jason was feisty, he knew what to say, how to say it and when to say it. But as the months went by, it was as if the omega full of life and fierceness slowly faded away.

"Any last words before we send our angel?" the priest asked. Lana's friends and family stepped up to say their goodbyes, yet Jason just stood there, it was as if something was preventing him from talking.

The omega kept crying silently, craving to just give himself into the pain. His body grew weak so he slightly stumled. He felt a hand grasp his waist firmly and he turned around to glance at Devon who had his dark brown eyes focused on him.

"You alright?" he mouthed quietly. Jason shook his head and looked away immediately.

"Listen, if it's too much, we can go. " the older alpha suggested, leaning to whisper quietly in Jason's ear. The omega knew that if he'd stay too long he'd pass out from stress and exhaustion. He glanced at the rose he held within his hands, it was a purple rose.

Purple was Lana's favorite color.

He hummed quietly in response and as he managed to put the flower on Lana's casket, he backed away and turned to glance at the brothers, standing in the distance from the rest.

"Let's go. " the omega spoke in a quiet shaky tone. He headed toward the black car parked not too far away, wiping his tears away. The brothers followed behind the omega.

"We shoudn't have let him come here. " Leo murmured, hands in his pockets. He did look concerned.

"Since when are you so concerned abou Jason?" Devon suddenly stopped, a scowl on his face. Leo quirked an eyebrow at his harsh words.

"I can ask you the same question. " Leo snapped back. The two alphas remained silent after that. There was definitely a tension lingering in the air between the three of them but no one did nothing about it.

Jason watched them in pure confusion. What the hell was happening? Were they fighting? At a funeral? Before the omega could scowl at them, the brothers headed toward the car, no words were said during the trip to the house.

Jason was leaning at the back seat, head pressed against the window, eyes closed. He hadn't slept in three days straight nor eaten anything. Even the maids at the house tried to soothe him and cheer him up but nothing worked. The brothers tried to force him to eat as well but Jason just remained silent and kept rolling in his bed for three days straight.

"Jason?"

The omega jumped in his seat slightly, too lost in his own thoughts, obviously.

"Yes?" he muttered quietly. It was Leo's voice, and he was the one who drove the car. Their eyes met, Leo was glancing at the omega from the back view mirror.

"Wanna stop by somewhere and grab something to eat?"

"No, I am okay. You can go ahead and have something. "

Devon's nostrils flared at that.

"I will force the food down your throat. " he snapped lowly. Jason scowled at his words and rolled his eyes.

"I doubt it. "

"Don't make me-" Devon started but Leo glared at his brother.

"Stop it. Give him time to grief."

"He hasn't eaten anything in days!" the older alpha protested. There was more awkward silence in the car.

"Drive me to the station-" Devon muttered, "you take Jason home. "

"You are quite fucking bossy, I don't like that-"

"Well you gotta get used to it. "

As the two brothers kept bickering, Jason sank in his seat and massaged his forehead, shaking his head. He didn't hear what the alphas were talking at all. He did need some rest because their voices were like a distant echo in his ears. It was a tough time for him.

Perhaps he should eat and do something to get his mind off things? He gotflashbacks from three days ago when he found out that Lana was dead. He fellonto the ground, screaming, yelling, trashing like an animal. Leo found it hardto hold him down, Devon as well.

It was a nightmare. Jason had his mental breakdown in front of these two menand remembered nothing, or at least what happened after he collapsed. They hadbrough Jason to the hospital and gave him some drugs to help him sleep alittle. Since then the omega has been feelingempty from the inside.

As the car stopped Jason blinked a few times and realized they were in front ofthe police station. He frowned when Devon climbed out from the car. Jasonimmediately unbluckled his belt and got out as well.

"What are you doing?" Devon asked.

"I wanna find out more about her murder, you didn't told me anything." Jasonmuttered, still sniffling from his crying back at the car. Leo climbed out, butremained near the car, watching the two of them talk at the very exit of thebuilding.

"Jason, go home and rest. You won't handle it right now, that's why I didn'ttold you. " Jason pursed his lips together at those words, narrowing his eyes.

"Try me." He stubbornly said.

"Fucking lord," Devon groaned lowly and pinched the bridge of his nose, glancing at Leo.

"You go, we will be back later. "

The younger alpha hummed and climbed back into the car. Jason placed his hands onhis own hips, staring at the older alpha in front of him.

"Shall we?"

At that, Devon only rolled his eyes and headed into the station. It did look hectic, men and women in uniforms running around, some people behind their desks tryingto catch up with the work and papers scattered around. Devon walked with hishead held high, shoulders straightened and complexion blank.

Jason was the opposite. He had been here before, before he got bought. And thatmade him wonder, if the alpha will let him work again. Jason wasn't oblivious,he knew what was going on, he knew the tension rising between him and thealpha. It was an odd feeling he craved to avoid over and over again.

A short man with moustache greeted them. This had to be Jenkins.

"Where are the forensics, "Devon asked immediately.

Jenkins cleared his throat and glanced at Jason then back at the alpha. "Well, they are working on the evidences they've found at the murder scene. "

At that and Jason and Devon froze.

"Evidences?" they both spoke at the same time and realizing that, it somehowcaught them off guard. Jenkins rose both of his eyebrows and hummed lowly.

"Why the fuck didn't you call me?" Devon fumed, pushing Jenkins to the side ashe headed straight toward the forensics's office. Jason was walking hehind, or-running. The alpha had freakishly long legs and the omega couldn't catch up.

Devon burst through the large doors and looked around and immediately foundEleanna's small frame at the far end of the room along with a few other people.

The girl turned around and widened her eyes.

"Oh, alpha!" she squeaked and walked up to him, carrying something in her hand.

"What brings ya here?" she asked curiously, shooting glances at Jason who felta stinging feeling in his chest. She was painfully familiar from somewhere ,but where?

Devon rolled his eyes.

"You gathered evidences and didn't told me anything?"

"Yea, cuz you were at a funeral, we didn't want to make your day worse. " Jasonwidened his eyes. Worse? What does that mean? He began doubting if he couldhandle it. He was coming from Lana's funeral. Perhaps Devon was right, perhapshe should've gone with Leo after all.

"What's happening?" the older man asked, looking around.

"Well- you see, Lana was strangled and shot in the head. I mean- she was deadafter she got strangled and I do not know why she'd get shot in the head in thefirst place? It definitely is a different kind of a work-"

Jason's feet went weak. The grotesque images of Lana's helpless body on theground made him want to cry and vomit at the same time. He pursed his lips together, eyes growing watery.

"So you wanna tell me that it's not our...uh- killer?" Devon frowned.

"Tsk-" Eleanna pointed out, shaking her head. "Perhaps it wa an assassin hired to do thejob. It was not the killer who did it. "

Devon's face grew in pure confusion, Jason kept looking around, noticing a smallcard laying on the table, put in a transparent bag.

"What is this?" he asked confused, grabbing the plastic bag and examining thecard in it.

Devon's heart raced. He remembered that the killer used to send him cards withlittle messages.

"This was found at the crime scene, stuffed in her mouth. " Eleanna chirpped.Devon's eyebrows furrowed as he snatched the bag from Jason's hands.

His brown eyes scanned the card and he froze.

"How come I never fucking thought about that?" his mouth went dry. Eleanna andJason stared confused at the alpha who seemingly grew pale.

"What's going on?"Jason asked.

Devon remained silent for a while before glancing at the omega and Eleanna.

"Nothing...uh- it's- I think I just mistook it for something...Let's go Jason." He spokeout, "keep up with the good job everyone."

Devon stormed out from the room with Jason dragging his feet after him, notbeing able to catch up yet again.

Everyone in the room had their jaws dropped. Devon never ever praised their work.Eleanna's happy and careless face immediately faded as she stared at the manwho had just walked out from the room.

***

"What the fuck happened back there?"Jason fumed, "we didn't even got to talkwith her or I didn't got to find out more about Lana's death!" he snapped.

Devon glanced at the omega and growled lowly, his eyes flashed red for a splitsecond. Jason immediately grew silent. How much he hated when alphas assertedtheir dominance like that. It was disgusting. And his omega hormones reacted.

They finally had returned back to the mansion and just walked inside. Leo wassprawled on the couch, drinking some wine whilst watching some TV. It was warminside, thankfully. The younger alpha turnedhis head to glance at the two men who had just walked inside, looking quite confused.

Devon stormed upstairs without even saying another word. Jason was leftstanding in the hallway. He slowly turned around to glance at Leo then headupstairs as well, to his bedroom.

"What the hell.." Leo whispered, wondering if he should go visit them both andsee what happened back at the station.

As Devon stormed in his bedroom, he slammed shut the door and immediatelywalked up to his desk where his laptop was. Sitting down, he opened it andimmediately turned in on.

"For fuck's sake. " his heart kept racing fast. He was so dumb. So so dumb.Perhaps...perhaps she sent someone to do him the dirty? Perhaps...she wantedrevenge??

Devon's face remained pale, hands shaking as he typed quickly, erraticaly intothe search bar of Google.

" LA Mental Institution "

And over 2,340, 000 results came out. The alpha shifted in his seat. He knewthat logo so well that it hurt his heart. He managed to get into the MentalInstitution's main website and find their number.

"Hello, this is Devon Ryder, I'd like to request a visit. " he soon spoke, glancing through his shoulder to see if someone would walk in. He was paranoid.Way too paranoid.

"Yes, sir, what's the patient's name you'd like to visit?"

"My ex-wife, Clarissa Ryder." He trailed off, grasping the phone withinhis hand firmly.
