A small prank that went horribly wrong. Ignorance was the reason, one that costed them the trust of their leader. How did it go wrong? The answer is quite simple, one morning a group of skeletons gathered around the living room with nothing else to do. A simple chat turned into planning, planning of a prank that would eventually turn their lives upside down.

"Just a liquid. Nothing too harmful."

"How about bleach and soup? Nightmare didn't seem to be affected by it." One suggested.

"Then that will do, let's get planning."

"Let's not do that, what if he actually was affected by it and you idiots were too dumb to think about it."

"Error just trust us. Nothing will go wrong."

"This will end HORRIBLY, just put a stop to it."

Terrified screaming and yells of concern. One quickly rushed to help the lad and tried to get the liquid off of him, the other only kept screaming more. They were for sure lucky that day when Nightmare survived, they weren't sure if they could handle the pained screaming any longer.

— A Day After —

Nightmare laid in his bed, thinking of everything that happened. Pain, that was really all he could feel when bleach was poured onto him, he couldn't even register the people that rushed out to help him. After the pain had ended, he was confused when his eyes met a plain white ceiling with Error looking down on him with worry.

When he explained everything to Nightmare, he felt horrified. He hated it, he hated the truth so much. Clinging onto Error was the last thing he expected himself to do, but he did, and Error himself didn't mind and let Nightmare cuddle up on him for a little while.

"No— No— Just, get away from me!"

A horrible fight they fought. Killer and Cross's relationship with Nightmare was lost and could only be looked upon with memories. Nightmare wasn't keen on forgiving them sometime soon.

"Are you okay?" Error asked, concern etched upon his face and he caressed Nightmare's hand softly. A faint memory replays in Nightmare's mind PAIN, MELTING, a past that he wishes would disappear for good.

"I'm fine." Nightmare whispers, "Just fine."

Error didn't seem even remotely convinced, "You need to eat."

"I don't want to face them."

"Then I'll go fetch food for you."

"Kay."

Error was gone for a few minutes, and it was just Nightmare, Night, and Mare in his own thoughts.

— —

Error returned, a tray in his hands filled with Nightmare's favorite foods. Was that the reason why it took so long, Nightmare stood up straighter when he faced one of his favorite foods in the whole entire world. Error chuckles at his enthusiasm. ("Cutie." He whispers).

Nightmare ate in silence while Error watched in fascination and fondness.

— —

It was strange ordering his team around after almost dying because of them, they looked as if they wanted to say something but kept quiet for they knew they didn't have the place to do so.

For the rest of the afternoon, Error watched Nightmare.

— —

Dinner was particularly quiet. The only people talking were Nightmare and Error.

— —

The next day, Error accompanied Nightmare to a trip to a friend. After they arrived, Nightmare told his friend the reason why he was late. (Apparently, Nightmare was supposed to visit them the day the... "incident" happened and he was set backed.)

Nightmare's friend turned to Error, "Error, right?"

Error looked confused at him but nodded. "Yeah?"

"Just make your move, dude." At that Error blushed an unhealthy amount of yellow and blue.

He coughed, however. "No, not right now, Nightmare needs time to recover."

His friend laughs, "Yup, you're whipped."

SLAP!

"What's going on there you two!" Nightmare's voice echoed.

— —

It was time for farewells. Nightmare waved at his friend who legit had a bruise on his face but he waved back happily.

Error glared at him when Nightmare's friend made kissing noises towards them.

(Thankfully, Nightmare didn't see it.)

— —

Making friends was one thing but keeping them was the hard part. Reconcilation was difficult.

They faced one morning, Nightmare felt scared.

Apologies were made, but they couldn't be taken.

— —

The day happened, the day Nightmare realized that Error only allowed HIM to hug him. He felt... special being the only person Error allowed to hug— hell even touch him. The joy he felt that say was immense.

A hug, a hug was given to the skeleton once again. Error blushed and held Nightmare tightly.

"Thanks." Nightmare whispered.

"For what?"

"For everything." Nightmare smiled at him.

And Error smiled back.

Anything for that smile.

— —

A month has passed since that incident, atmosphere was the awkwardest (is that a word?) it had ever been. The joyous laughter that rang out from the castle disappeared, replaced with silence and guilt.

Their light dimmed.

But for Nightmare? Error was his light at the moment, and whether he knew it or not, Nightmare was Error's.

— —

A meeting was called, and a lot of other sanses attended, other people that participated in the prank was there, they stood guiltily.

Ink began their meeting and Nightmare soon zoned out a few minutes after. A hand that clasped his broke him out of his stupor, he turned to the person beside him. Killer.

He tried to break his grasp but Killer seemed to want none of it.

Error slapped Killer's hand from Nightmare's. And Error glared at the other skeleton before he side-eyed him.

For the rest of the meeting, Error's gaze never left Killer, just in case he would try to do his little trick again.

— —

Flowers appeared in his bedside every morning, and he knew exactly who gave them. A new flower appeared every morning, and he felt happy just knowing who gave them to him.

"Thanks Error." He whispers.

— —

3 months and the tension never died down. It was concerning, Killer never seemed to come to terms with it whilst Cross seemed to accept this new reality all together.

He messed everything up, he knew.

— —

"Thanks for being there, Error." He says, "I don't think I could've made it without you."

"Don't mention it." Error says, "I would do anything for you."

Nightmare chuckles. "Sure you would."

Error chuckles as well, "I would. For real."

— —

Everyone seemed to know the day would arrive, the day where Nightmare and Error would get together. The day when Nightmare and Error were a lot more touchy than usual, they knew instantly of what happened.

And then they confronted. They sat face-to-face.

"Will you ever forgive us?"

"I don't know," Nightmare felt overwhelmed already. Error placed a supporting hand on his shoulder.

"Its fine." Cross says, "We won't force you."

"..." Nightmare stays quiet.
