Vote and comment to help me overcome this stupid writers block

I took the key out of the ignition and sat outside the park. I revealed my phone from the very bottom of my bag and played my playlist on shuffle. I used my hourly five free skips in the matter of seconds skipping through songs trying to find one that fitted with the mood.

Right now, I didn't feel like listening to some depressing song or an overly happy one either. I just wanted a neutral song, one that I liked and was easy. That probably makes no sense at all but I knew what I meant.

I was on the last skip and I just hoped that one of the stupid songs that I completely despised but kept on my playlist for no apparent reason wasn't going to be played through my car speakers next. I didn't want to have to go onto YouTube and kill my data when I could turn my data off and the song still played while on Spotify.

Luckily for me, what played next was a song I could actually stand.

I turned the volume all the way up, as loud as the car would let me. By doing this I was probably damaging eardrums meaning that I'll have bad hearing when I'm older, but that didn't concern me too much. It wasn't like I listen to music like this all the time... That's a lie, I do most of the time but who cares.

I knew that people could hear the music even though they were outside the car, I could tell that by the way I was getting glanced at and the occasional death stare. I ignored it all and zoned into the lyrics of the song.

You Get Me So High was one of my favourite songs by The Neighbourhood and entirely underrated. I knew all the words after I forced myself to listen to the song all day till I knew it all off-by-heart.

I sang along to the lyrics under my breath, my head pushed back against the leather headrest attached to the seat. I stretched my arms out so that I was gripping onto the wheel, my arms fully extended. My fingers mindlessly tapped the black, smooth wheel to the beat of the song.

I found it ironic how the song says about wanting to be high all the time and yet, I haven't even thought about touching a single type of drug, let alone actually taking one and getting high.

A gust of cold wind interrupted my thoughts as the passenger side door opened. I looked to my right and saw the black-haired guy I recently made friends with. He climbed into the seat next to me and with no hesitation, stretched the seatbelt across his body.

"Could you have this any louder?" He complained as his seatbelt clicked into place. He reached his hand forward to turn the music down so I smacked it away before he could do anything.

He then continued to sit there staring at me with his eyebrows lifted. I stared back at him as I began sing shouting along to the song. I grabbed the little bottle of hand cream I had in the small compartment in my door and pretended to use it as a microphone.

I purposely sang terribly loud just to piss him off. No one comes into my car and turns the music down. I was simply asserting dominance, letting him know that I was in charge.

High all the time
High all the time

I was looking out of the front window singing and was zoned out for whatever reason. I do that a lot when listening to music - zoning out. So, if someone tries to speak to when I have my headphones in, nine out of ten times, I won't hear or notice then talking to me straight away.

I wanna be high all the time

I turned to face Darius only to see him watching me with a humorous smile lighting up his face. His body was orientated towards me and it was only then I noticed the phone that was in his hand and pointed towards me.

Would you come with me?

I stuck my hand out to the camera as if I was asking him to come with me like in the song.

I laughed and put my hand up to the camera, covering it so all it could see was the palm of my hand. I put the cream back and turned the blasting music all the way down. I strapped my own seatbelt across my body and started the engine.

"I'm surprised my ears aren't bleeding after that. You can't sing for shit," he complained again. All he had done since he got into my car was complain.

I glared at him as he ran his hand through his black hair. He sent a sarcastic smile to me, making me roll my eyes in response, "I'd like to see you try any better."

"My singing would absolutely blow you away."

"Or kill me," I retorted as I carefully pulled out of where I had parked my car.

"Anyway, where am I going?" I questioned when I noticed multiple turnings ahead.

"To the mall." This confused me. Out of all the places we could have gone today and he chooses to go to the mall?

"We're going to the mall?" I was sceptical but he just shrugged it off as if it was normal. I'm not saying it isn't, but the last place I thought we would have been going was the mall, but that's where I drove.

A vibrating sound came from Darius' direction. His phone had been constantly ringing the entire time we had been in the car. He glanced down to the lit-up device on his lap and pushed his head deeper into the headrest. His shoulders sagged as he slid down into the seat.

He wasn't very happy with who was repetitively and frustratingly ringing him.

At first, he had his sound on but quickly turned it off after the first five times. It was distracting to say the least.

"Someone won't leave you alone."

He sighed, "I know and it's pissing me off." A small laugh escaped my lips. I was expecting to be glared at or something but he just laughed too.

His phone sounded again making a groan sound from the right of me, "Oh my fucking God!" Darius' hand lifted up and ran through his hair frustratedly.

"Just turn it off."

I desperately wanted to know what had happened to cause this person to act this crazy. I considered asking him. It probably wasn't my place to ask, but I did it anyway. If there's one thing that annoys me the most, it's not knowing something and this had started annoying me.

"What have you done for someone to obsess over you that much?"

He smirked and I sensed some type of cocky reply back. Instant regret crawled up my back for wording it like that. If there's one thing Darius doesn't need, it's his ego inflating even more than it already was; I didn't need suffocating in this car by his cockiness any more than I already was.

"I just have that effect on people, darling. I already told you this. Spend time with me and you'll be obsessed." I rolled my eyes.

"Hmm, sure. Whatever floats your boat, mate," I said unimpressed.

"There it is. I told you that you would go back to sounding British by spending time with me," he winked and

What about what I just said gave him an impression that I'm being British?

Oh... because I said mate. Well, I can't really fight with that one.

"Whatever," I rolled my eyes as I pulled into a parking space closest to the mall entrance. I killed the engine and looked at Darius, "We're here!"

"No shit. Good detective skills," he said with a smile and unbuckled his seatbelt.

(A/N) Can you guys tell that I love The Neighbourhood?
My favourite part is when it says "You're my best friend, I'll love you forever."

What's the first shop you go to if you go to the mall/shopping centre? Mine is probably any clothes shop lmao
