Chapter 2: You owe me

My lips folded into my mouth at an attempt not to laugh. I turned at look at Syd. Her mouth was wide open in shock.

I looked at the tall guy in front of me covered in my milkshake.

I am 6'2, so I am taller than most guys and the dude stood in front of me only seemed a couple of inches taller, but the glare he was giving me made me feel smaller than I am.

I heard a snigger come from Justin's direction. I shot him a glare, daring him to laugh again and see what would happen. This day just could not get any worse.

Placing my bags on the table in front of us, I turned away and hastily grabbed some napkins and handed them to the guy wearing my drink. I scanned my eyes over his once white t-shirt.

"I am so sorry, oh my God," I managed to say without laughing.

"What the fuck?" I looked up only to see his furious blue eyes set on mine, his jaw clenched. Who does he think he is speaking to me in that way? I held his gaze. I could tell that he was used to intimidating people. Well that's not going to work on me.

We stood there challenging each other with our eyes. A lock of his golden, light brown, wavy hair fell in front of his blue eyes but that didn't break the staring competition. It seems he's stubborn but guess what? So am I. Two can play that game.

I have had my fair share of encounters with assholes like him, so I know how this goes. They stand there trying to intimidate you till you shrink back and lose whatever game they are playing. I used to be one of those who couldn't handle the intensity but not anymore.

The noise of his iPhone ringing was what finally made him stop looking at me. About time, his stubbornness was starting to annoy me, but I wasn't going to be the one to look away first.

Glancing at his phone, he silenced it and turned back to me.

"You owe me a new top," he said, frustration present in the tone of his voice. His full lips tugged up at the sides producing a smirk.

"Uhh, no I don't. I accidently walked into you. Maybe if you weren't standing so close, then that wouldn't have happened," I huffed crossing my arms in front of me.

The irritating guy in front of me turned to Justin, scowling at him, making him and Leah leave. The tension between Justin and this guy was conspicuous, almost as if they knew each other, I was probably just overthinking though.

He stood there and watched Justin's back as they left the diner before turning back to face me.

Syd then asked him the most unbelievable thing, "Do you want to come round for dinner tonight? As a way of saying sorry."

I turned around and looked at her, disbelief printed all over my face. What was she doing? I looked at her asking if she had gone mad. All I got was a shrug in response as she moved her pin straight red hair over her shoulder. Yep. She had gone mad.

"I can't tonight but thanks for the offer." Once again, looking in my direction, he smirked. Why was this guy so full of himself? People like him honestly annoy the hell out of me.

Sydney took a napkin and a pen and began writing something down. "Well here's this just in case you change your mind," she said handing him the now folded up napkin.

What the hell is going on? So, do we now just go around giving strangers (egotistical ones at that) our address? Does she want to get robbed?

He unfolded the napkin, quickly reading it and placed it in his pocket. He looked at Syd and gave her a polite nod before turning to me. He winked and then turned around and walked off.

What was that?

The drive home was quiet. A comfortable silence as we were both deep in thought.

Taking off my white converse, I set my keys and many bags down on the marble top counter. The question of why Syd even considered giving a stranger our home address let alone actually do it, crossed my mind again for the four hundredth time.

"Why did you actually give that guy our address? I mean he could full on come and kill us you know."

She slowly turned round and looked at me, her eyes full of trouble. She shrugged as if she didn't know what I meant.

"Bro you're insane," I jokingly said.

I walked over to the fridge and took out a cold bottle of water to ease my dry throat. It was too hot today. Sydney turned to me with a look on her face I know all too well.

"I never said that what I wrote down was our address." Flashing me a mischievous smile and throwing a wink in my direction, she ran up the stairs with her new clothes.

"SYDNEY MAY! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE THIS TIME?" I shouted up the stairs. She has always been the impulsive type so I can't even say that this is out of character. When we were younger, she was always getting in trouble. Sneaking out, lying, skipping classes, 'borrowing' money. Everything. You name it, she has done it. I thought she had outgrown that phase but every now and then, it shows itself again.

This was one of those moments.

I heard her laugh before shouting back down, "Nothing."

If I know Syd, which I do, it most certainly is not nothing.

Grabbing my bags, I made my way upstairs into my room, ready to do something Syd and I have done for as long as I can remember.

Our bedrooms are on opposite sides of the long-carpeted hallway, both with our own bathrooms. Sydney basically blackmailed me into giving her the larger room and bathroom, saying she needed more space for her clothes and shoes than I do. I was planning on giving it to her anyway. As kids we always dreamed of living together and now it's our reality.

I got changed into my first new outfit and asked if Syd was ready as well.

Syd went first.

I stood in the doorway of my room with my phone camera ready and watched her walk down the hallway in her new clothes.

We have always had our own mini fashion shows when we get new stuff; it is almost like our very own tradition and I don't plan on ever breaking it. No matter how old we get, it will always be fun.

I was the paparazzi at the end of the catwalk as she walked down in her black and white mini skirt that rested just below her midthigh and thin, light grey, long sleeved jumper, tucked in the top of the skirt. She did a little twirl, almost tripping over. She tried to be serious whilst slightly stumbling, sending us both into a laughing fit.

I was lying on the floor holding my sides as I tried to calm down. Syd was crouched down holding her stomach, laughing hysterically.

Just as I was getting back up onto my feet trying to finally calm down, Sydney snorted.

Doubled over with laughter, I held onto the railing at the top of the stairs for support. Sydney fell onto the floor, making me look at her concerned for a second. She looked at me, eyes wide, sending us both into another fit of uncontrollable laughter. We were stuck in those positions for at least 15 minutes, laughing our asses off.

I could not have asked for a better best friend.
