Lucas had not signed the marriage contract? It was hard to believe his words. There was no way he did when I saw him writing on the paper.

"You're lying," I said and glanced away. I didn't want to be fooled by his words.

"Look at it," he said, motioning at the paper in my hand.

I brought the file up to my face and opened it. I flipped to the page where I saw Maddy's signature on the first page then flipped to the next. My eyebrows rose upward when I saw the area where his signature was supposed to be, blank.

"How is this possible? I read through this contract when I found it. Your signatures are supposed to be on different pages. Maddy's own is here but yours..." I was stunned by confusion.

Lucas took the file from my hand and smiled down at me. I waited patiently for him to explain while he kept a smile on his face.

"I did sign it but not the contract. While you were being emotional and Maddy was distracted by you; I touched my pocket and felt paper in it. I took it out and saw it was the same color as the page. I placed it over the place I was supposed to sign and signed on the paper and not the line."

Through widened eyes, I watched as Lucas took out a square piece of paper. On it was his cursive signature. I traced the writing with my eyes, amazed at how smart he had been. Somehow, I felt a wave of relief wash over me at the fact that he was not married to Maddy. On one hand, I was glad but on the other, I was still hurt by everything that had happened.

"That doesn't change anything," I said and he groaned.

"I know it doesn't. Jackie, there was no way that I would marry someone that wasn't you."

I felt my insides warm up at his words. I hated how he still made me feel funny. I had to remember he kept such from me and insulted me.

"Jackie, don't you get it? I still love you. I still want to be with you. I want you in my life and ever since this happened, I've not been myself. I even relapsed and started smoking again," Lucas stressed out with sadness lingering in his voice.

"It's not my fault that you relapsed. It was because of your inability to trust me, to tell me the truth. When I wanted to have you tell me everything about you, I expected you'd tell me. We could have figured things out and maybe none of this would have happened but what did you do?" I questioned him with rage flowing through me.

Lucas looked at the floor, not wanting to meet my hard eyes focused on him. I wanted him to feel hurt for what he did. I wanted him to go through the emotional tension I had gone through.

"Jackie, give me a chance to prove myself to you. I promise never to hurt you again," he pleaded and tried to hold my hand but I moved out of the way.

"There's nothing for you to prove to me, Lucas. Everything must've been a misunderstanding or a trick played on us by the enemy. But that will not make you think you're being fully forgiven. I only forgave you for your stupidity but won't forgive you for hurting me because you proved that you have trust in me and that you kept such from me. I'm still hurt, so don't blame me if I'm overreacting to all of these," I said, voice shaky from the emotions swimming in my heart.

"Jackie... Fuck, I messed up. I have messed up so fucking bad," he whispered.

I turned my back when my eyes pricked with tears. I wanted to cry because I could feel how hurt he was about this but I wanted to punish him. He deserved to feel pain, to go through what I went through.

"So, what's it for us now?" He asked and I faced him.

"What do you mean?"

"What are we now?"

"You broke up with me, you tell me," I shot at him and he gulped audibly.

"I only said that out of anger. I didn't mean it. I can't live without you. We can't break up and I'm sorry for saying such to you. I love you so much to let you go. You're the woman I want for me, you're the woman I want as the mother of my children and my wife. If you want me to wait, I'll wait. I'll wait even if we get old. I am ready for any punishment you give me to prove that I want you still. Punish me, hurt me, I'll take it."

I shut my eyes against the incoming tears and controlled my breathing. I sniffed and opened my eyes, pushing away my tears.

Lucas raised his hand and opened it, revealing the promise ring he had given me.

"You don't want this anymore? I-I found this on the table when I arrived. I... God, I'm sorry," he whispered and closed his hand.

"Listen, we have more important things to focus on. Let's forget about all of these for now. I'm sure Andrea told you the latest information?" I asked, changing the subject.

Lucas opened his mouth to speak and from the look in his eyes, I knew it had nothing to do with what I just asked. He closed his mouth and exhaled then dropped the file on the coffee table. He rubbed his face and nodded his head.

"She told me about the cash withdrawal from an ATM and how there isn't any record of her landing in Haiti," he said in a dry tone.

"Well, I met her girlfriend and she said she hasn't seen or heard from Ruth," I said. "All we have to wait for is whatever Andrea has, particularly the security footage of her using the ATM."

The door opened and we looked at it. Jared popped his head into the room and grinned at us before walking in, looking from one person to another. He stopped in front of us and pointed his finger from me to Lucas.

"Have you two made up?" He asked and I flipped my middle finger at him. "What? I want to know if I'm going to still be a godfather."

I had never wanted to punch someone in the face so bad as I wanted to Jared.

A/n: It's not going to be easy for Lucas. Lol, don't worry it won't take too long.

Anyway, prepare for the big reveal soon. Something is about to happen.
