Silence. Neither Hugo nor Freeze had spoken a word since a masked figure burst through the glass of a VIP room.
They still didn't speak, even after watching the man take the item, or woman, backstage. Not even after he came back out and began to deal with the guards.

Hugo, with a calm look on his face, was squeezing his knee with his hand under the table to the point where he wasn't sure whether he'd be able to walk if he got up.

'Y/N. You moron'

Under his suit and on his hands, which were hidden from sight, Hugo's veins were popping from under his skin due to the intensity of his grip.

'You weren't supposed to be the one that started this, maybe we could've avoided a confrontation all together'

He had to clench his mouth, but restrain himself from doing so in a manner that would cause the veins on his neck and head to show. He could not, under any circumstances, show a reaction to this.

Not when he was in front of a Lord.

"How unexpected"
Finally, Freeze broke the silence.
"I wasn't expecting someone unknown to start this, and to come from one of the VIP rooms as well"

Freeze readjusted his goggles as if to demonstrate that he was thinking.

"Even though this is unexpected, still, it was only natural there'd be an interruption. Auctions never seem to go to plan in Gotham, how pitiful"

Hugo had to speak. He was aware it'd be out of character for him not to, and someone like Freeze would catch on that something was off without a doubt if he continued to be silent.

"Why wasn't the glass bullet proof?" A question, he needed to ask a question.
"Surely if you could afford such a luxurious place like this, then wouldn't it be better to have a precaution in case something like this happened?"

"I wasn't present during the construction. Although, I heard it was a request to have the glass be normal"
"A request from who?"
"A request from one of our VIP's. Or more specifically, another Lord"

The second Freeze said that Hugo repressed a flinch, focusing on maintaining his calm yet intrigued facade.

"And why would a Lord ask for something more specific?"
"Well, they said they wanted a front row seat in case a certain person showed up, and that on the offhand said person were a VIP, they would be able to intervene in the auction without resistance. Although, that position was only give to those who we personally invited or paid enough to us to warrant a position, so who were they expecting?"

'Why? What is he talking about? Is he bluffing? No, Victor wouldn't lie to me, not right now at least. That means another Lord is in this building and that there's a chance they were expecting L/N to be present, or maybe there was someone else they were expecting and I'm making a baseless hypothesis because I'm feeling paranoid'

The doctor stared at the screen as you grabbed the mouth of Canary, using the bracelet of submission to cover her mouth.

'Worst case is that the former is right and one of the Lords were expecting and waiting for L/N. In that scenario they would either be after his bounty, have a personal interest in him, or have a personal connection to him in some way. Bane wouldn't do something like this so he's out of the picture, this isn't Crane's style, Penguin wouldn't bother, so who? I'm not 100% sure who the other Lords are so who would do this?'

"Doctor"

Hugo stoped his train of thought and looked up at the red goggles which were Freeze's eyes, the first he noticed was a fake, yet cruel smile.

"You seem a little tense"

Hugo froze, and his eyes slowly went down to his exposed neck, where a vein was popping out from under his skin.
'Shit'

"By the way, how does no one recognize you in your regular Hero outfit since you're usually not wearing a mask? Just curious"

You both once again ducked behind cover, with Canary letting out another Cry to the side of you guys, stopping anyone from approaching from that direction. Your hands covered your ears and, even though it wasn't aimed at you, you felt some of your hearing dwindle for a split second.

Now the reason you asked this was because you were curious.
'How do they explain plot holes in-canon?'

Canary however, did not look impressed. "Seriously? That's what you're asking? This choker isn't just for show, it's a magic artifact that's supposed to make me unrecognizable and distort my appearance to those who don't know- shit get down!"

Using your- I mean the bracelet you'd given her, Canary blocked multiple bullets, deflecting them while you positioned yourself mainly behind her.

"To those who don't know my real name and the fact I'm Canary. Which by the way, since you're asking that, means you know my identity"

She glared at you, while you pretended to be occupied by looking around the pillar towards the exit.

'Note to self, never ask a question ever again'

"So how exactly are we going to get out of this?"
"Way to go at changing the subject"

You winced, but thankfully she continued. "I would've already used my Cry to get rid of the ones blocking the exit, but one of them are openly holding a grenade. Worst case scenario this entire place blows up if I let out my Cry, best case the exit is blocked off due to rubble"

"Wait, they're smart?"

"I've garnered a bit of a reputation, and they're becoming smarter as time goes on. Almost like they're evolving"

"Yeah yeah talk about being humb"-

Suddenly, a projectile burst out of your VIP room, bouncing off of multiple pillars and walls as if in a game of ping pong, and hit multiple butlers before coming to a stop by your guys's feet.

You stared, with an almost empty look, at Static's Saucer. Nodding your head with a soulless expression.

You slowly turned your head to Canary, who was just staring at the object with a blank face. Then, she slowly turned to stare at you.

You both just stared at each other, and you unconsciously gripped the bat in your hand even tighter.

"Canary"-
"We made a deal, I don't break deals. Until we go our separate ways after leaving this room, we don't fight. I couldn't get up there from here even if I wanted to"

You eyed her cautiously, loosening your grip on your bat only slightly.

"As long as you don't break your word. So, got an idea of how we get that grenade away from him"

"From what I've seen so far, manually would be best. Most of these guys seem like lowlifes who were trained for this event but only in etiquette, and they don't appear to be loyal enough to blow themselves up if we get close enough"

"Wanna just go for it then?"

"Sure, waiting around doesn't seem to much of an option"

"You first"

"Really?"

"You got my bracelet~"

Canary looked at the bracelet, before turning her eyes to stare at you with an annoyed look on her face.

"Alright, ready?"
"Insert bird joke here"
"What?"
"What?"
"Whatever, go!"

You both burst out from behind your cover, with you throwing Canary your bat to help her block the numerous bullets along with the bracelet.

A few bullets grazed Canary, and some even connected with her stomach. However, she remained completely unaffected by those ones and focused on blocking the ones that her outfit didn't cover.

'Bullet proof. Helps when your backer is rich'
You thought with sour expression while Canary managed to get close to the first guard.

Instead of doing anything to him though, she ducked past him, not even sparing him a glance.

He stared at her back in confusion for a few seconds and then turned his head, only to meet a viscous running punch from you that sent him into the ground.

By this point, the two of you were too close to warrant the use of guns less they accidentally ended up injuring each other, in turn forcing them to draw out their more close ranged weapons.

Canary slid under and through the legs of another guard, swinging her body around mid slide to sweep out her legs from under her, causing the woman to begin to fall face first to the ground.

Before she hit it though, you kicked the butler on the side of her falling face , knocking her out before she hit the ground with a thud.

Canary continued to run, throwing your bat into the air, and then using the fact her hands were free to jump, somersaulting onto and over the next butler.

You jumped yourself, catching the weapon and bringing it down onto the man in front of you.

Surprisingly, they dodged, which caused you to slam the bat onto the ground.

Canary had blocked the next person in front of you's baton with your- with the bracelet, as well as blocking a kick aimed at her leg.

You wasted no time getting up from your position and swung for the butler that had dodged you, yet they dodged again. But as they scrambled to get out of the way, you kicked them their ribs, sending them upwards, which you followed up by elbowing them in the side of their head. Right after the blow, you spun and threw the bat straight at Canary.

She fell back first to the ground, avoiding a swing while also avoiding the bat that connected into the butlers gut barrel first.

She immediately kicked up, grabbing the weapon before gravity could effect it and brought it upwards, hitting the man directly in the chin and dazing him.

He swung his baton wildly in his state, but Canary spun and kicked him directly in the back, which sent him directly into your path.

You were already running, and using this chance you used the still barely conscious man's body as a stepping stool and knee'd him directly in the face, rolling to break your fall.

Canary deflected a sword strike ahead of you, and threw the bat back your way. You spun with weapon when you caught it and threw it back while Canary dodged a blow, hitting the woman in the knee with it which Canary followed up by catching and bringing it up for a heavy strike to the chin.

Suddenly, Canary gracefully somersaulted backwards, which was an impressive feat since she was still holding onto the bat, dodging the horizontal swing of a sword while simultaneously kicking the assailants wrist, knocking the weapon into the air.
As she moved out, you moved in.

Instead of doing anything fancy, you took advantage of the butler's state of panic and deliver a punch right to their exposed mid-section, causing them to bend over onto your fist from the impact.

You pushed them away slightly with your arm and then spun, catching the weapon and using the momentum of your spin to cut-
'No killing'
You shifted the weapon in your hand so that you instead drove the hilt into the back of their head.

Another sword sung for your body, and this time you deflected it into the ground, which you followed up by stomping on the part of the blade closest to the hilt and shattering it.

You grabbed the man's still outstretched arm and trapped it, intertwining it with yours and then kicking him in the gut. When he inevitably bent over to recoil from the strike, you raised your leg and this time kicked the butler in the face, knocking him out.

Looking in front of you, you saw there were still a few guys ahead of the man holding a grenade with an outstretched hand. He was standing at the back of everyone, obviously it seemed the others realized that he was there best chance since a single cry could probably immobilize all of them.

'More will come soon, we need to wrap this up quickly so I can at least get to another floor'

You looked down at the unconscious man at your feet, or more specifically the hilt they had grasped in their hand with no blade.

You smirked a little as an idea formed in your mind, and you bent down, grabbing what remained of the weapon.

Canary, who was using the bat to slightly lean on behind you gave you a quizzical look.

"Hey Canary, how confident are you at baseball?"

"Y/N this better not be some attempt at a joke especially with the situation we're in right now, and if this is a joke, don't make it, because from what I've seen of you, you're only averagely funny"
"So you think I'm funny?"
"Is this the irresistible urge to bash someone's head in that Harley went on about?"

She muttered to herself, but she was still paying attention to what you had to say.

"Just answer, yes or no?"
"Yes! Yes, yes okay? I'm confident now mind telling me why you ask-........that's a stupid idea, you'll throw it back to me each time? No, I'd rather us"-
"It'll work though"
"Maybe but still"-
"It'll be funny too"
"That's not"-
"It'll be cool. Fantastical. Enjoyable. What's another word? oh I have it, enthralling! Yeah that's a good one!"
"Fine we'll do it just....just stop talking"

You gave her the "fair enough" look, before turning your head to the incoming butlers.

You swung your hand which held the hilt, tossing it towards Canary while you also stood up from your position.

'Let's see if all those games against Flash'll come in handy' She thought to herself.

She swung her bat as if she were a professional, hitting the hilt in such a way so that it rocketed past you, directly into the forehead of an incoming guard.

They stumbled slightly at the impact. Using this, you drove your elbow down onto the top of their head, catching and throwing the hilt back behind you right after.

At her swing the hilt hit another charging butler right in their right shoulder, causing them to instinctively grasp it with their other arm. You proceeded to kick their now exposed side, sending them crashing into the wall.

You dropped to the ground, avoiding a sword strike while also spinning your downed body to catch the hilt. You flipped back to your feet, throwing the item in the process.

Once up you immediately struck the woman in front of you in the ribs, following it up with a punch to her face WO the your other hand in quick succession. Then, you grabbed the butler's outfit by the collar and stomach, and spun her around.

The hilt zoomed by where the butler's head was previously and instead hit one that had appeared behind her directly in the cheek. You completed your spin a moment after, throwing the butler who you had in your grasp into the dazed one.

They collided, and the hilt hit the back of the guard you had thrown, allowing you to catch it and throw it back to Canary before it hit the ground.

Canary spun her body, hitting the hilt mid-spin so that it connected at the awkward angle you threw it at. Ultimately, it hit it's mark, that being another guard.

"Throw it back better!"
"You want me to throw it back right now? In the middle of a fight? And I thought you had a little self-controooool"- Your voice wavered as you moved your torso, missing a baton swing while also catching the hilt that had allowed the butler to slip up. You bashed him in the head with it and threw it back in one swift motion.

"By the Kryptonians I'm gonna kill him" Instead of hitting the hilt again, she caught it to emphasize how annoyed she was.

You didn't notice, and instead were focused on the four, there were four remaining guards, and each one was close to you.
"Canary! Y'know the guy I used as a human shield to block those bullets from earlier? Go check on him, I can handle the rest!"

Canary stared at you for a few moments only to throw the bat at you, which you caught. Afterwards she walked behind her to the man who you used to block all the bullets from earlier.

"Okay, let's get this five-some underway"

You ducked under the punch of the first butler, going right past him and hitting the second guard with a straight punch to the gut. The first one tried to recover by delivering a spinning elbow, but you blocked it with you forearm and side-kicked the same butler right in the knee.

You turned your attention to the hunched over second guard, and brought you knee up so that it connected directly in their face, causing them to shoot up. Immediately, you followed it up by kicking them in their gut with your already raised foot.

Then, you implanted the raised foot into the ground and spun, delivering a spinning side-kick to the kneeling first guard with your other foot.

You side-stepped a punch thrown for your head and wrapped one arm around the base of the newcomer's outstretched right arm, with one around their shoulder and the other around their forearm, and then forced the base up and the other part down.

You felt a crack as the man let out a gasp of pain, but you didn't stop. Bringing your palm underneath their elbow you brought it up, furthering the breakage while also sending the butler's arm so that it was in the air like he just didn't care.

Using the fact he was now exposed, you lifted your right leg for a high-kick directly into their face, but you didn't stop the kick at the impact, and instead continued your momentum so that the guard crashed down into the ground with your shoe in their face.

You stood there for a few seconds before you removed your foot from their face.

You let out a quiet groan as your breaths were ragged, exhaustion at what you did setting in.

The real reason you sent Canary away was that you didn't want any of the Hero's to know you were in a bit of a weakened state after the heist, any weakness shown would be used against you after all.

Still, you were far from done. It was akin to when you're jogging and you finally start to feel the workout. Just imagine it across your entire body and a lot worse.

You looked at the last remaining guy, the one holding the grenade openly in one of his hands.

You didn't feel like walking all the way over there and taking it from him, so you gave him the "come here" motion.

"What?" He asked, so you repeated it with more enthusiasm.
"Come here"
"W-Why?"
"Hand it over and you don't get hurt"
"I-I won't?"
"Yeah yeah sure just c'mere"

You kept repeating the action, and the man hesitatingly took a step.

"C'mon I don't bite. Come here. C'MON. I wont hurt you OKAY. You can trust lil ol me can't you? Just come a few more steps- that's right! You're almost there! You're so close- YOU CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU!"

While you unconvincingly tried to convince the butler, he was taking small baby steps towards you.

"That's right, just reach out your hand and you'll be a-ok! Then you can go home and"-

Once he was close enough you lunged in to deliver a stunning uppercut to the man's chin, effectively knocking him out and sending the grenade out of his hand.

You let out a sigh of exasperation before picking the explosive up, examining it with some care.

"Military? Pretty good stuff, but there's no way this guy got this on his own. Although, it is Gotham, so you never know. Still, this means the Lords have some connection to the government or the military at the worse. Gotham is on a city-wide lockdown where no one has been able to leave so maybe they have a connection with this? I should tell Hugo if we get back"

You muttered your thoughts aloud, but quietly. The footsteps behind you alerted you that Canary was pretty close, and you stopped.

"He's alive. No bullets hit a fatal spot and I used his clothes to cover the spots where he got shot so he's not dying of blood loss at least"
"Thanks"

Canary smirked at your gratitude and walked past you, not even bothering to ask why you suddenly cared about the state of the butlers.

She gave you the bat, shoving it particularly hard into your chest as she continued her walk.

"Hey!"

You yelled out, catching
