"You have a few days until the auction and I do advise you both to rest, but from what I can see that's not something you plan on doing"

Static nodded his head, while you just stared at Hugo.

"Alright then. The Asylum has what's called a "Happy Place". And by happy place, I mean a place where patients are allowed to vent and let out their frustrations"

Hugo moved from his position behind the bar and walked over towards the exit of the room, motioning for you to follow him.

You both complied, and only after a minute Hugo stopped in front of a double door.

"If any of you are planning on practicing or experimenting with your powers"

Hugo specifically looked at Static, making the Hero remember the damage that was still present from his outburst a few days ago.

"There is no better place in the Asylum to do so"

Opening the doors, you and Static were met with a cubic room that's as extremely large and void of any furniture.

The interior was bright, and multiple cracks in the walls and floors that looked permanent were scattered around at random.

Still, there was one other person in the room. Hugo's assistant.

"I don't believe we've met. My name is Ethel Peabody, I am the Doctor's assistant"

She did a little bow as she spoke, the pride in her voice clear as she spoke about her boss.

"I will be responsible for cleaning up this place after it is used, so please ring this bell when you've had enough for the day"

Static remembered that woman that helped stabilize you with Hugo when he first dropped you off at the Asylum, so he wasn't that confused. You on the other hand, were confused. You thought you heard another's voice when you initially woke up after the Squad incident, but you thought your mind was just playing tricks on you.

"You never told me you had an assistant"
"I never found it necessary"
"Didn't we just come to an agreement before?"
"Yes, which is why I am openly showing you her now instead of at a later date"

You didn't turn to speak to Hugo, and neither did he to you.

"Why are you allowing her to stay"
"Because she is necessary"
"For what"
"A last resort"
"What are y"-
"Y/N I am not one to make mistakes. I'm not asking you to trust me, I'm asking you to trust my intelligence"

You stared at the doctor for a few moments, before letting out a sigh of defeat and walking into the room. Static followed, a little limp in his step as he did so.

Both the Doctor and his assistant left the room, leaving the both of you as the sole inhabitants.

"Hey I have a question" You turned your body around to face Static.
"How did you pull part of the roof down? I don't remember your range being that long?"
"Oh that's right I haven't told you about it yet!"

Scrunching up his eyes, Static took a breath in before  a solid looking ball of electricity formed over his fingers.

"Now if I do this........."

The small ball began to thin out, before taking the shape of a dagger with no hilt.

"Ta-daaaaaaaa"

'Manipulating electricity into a solid form. That's amazing'

"I SAID ta-daaaaaaaaa"

By the time you came out of your thoughts, Static was in front of you, waving the weapon in your face with an aggressive smile.

You nodded profusely, which seemed to satisfy him. But immediately after, the weapon in his hand evaporated.

Both you and Static looked to the empty space where the dagger used to be with a blank expression, but before you could question it Static changed the subject.

"I've answered your question so you need to answer mine. First off, when I saw you fighting Canary and Zatanna you suddenly became a lot more aggressive, and then I saw you rebound off of something green. An explanation of that would be nice"

Countering with his own question, it was know you who had to come up with a believable explanation.

"With the green thing I'm still not sure about myself. I barely remember what happened in between when you started charging up and when Zatanna passed out"

The blade of electricity appeared again and Static poked you a few times, a suspicious look on his face.

"Riiiiiiiigggghhhhtttt"
"I'm serious"
"No I believe you......tots"
"Did you just say tots?"
"Yes, to show I, in fact, don't believe you"

You stuck the middle finger up at him, while he did the same. Only for the dagger of energy to once again evaporate.

"You can't control it can you?"
"That's debatable"

You were gonna get a headache if you kept talking to the former? Hero so you decided to just shake your head and ignore him.

Laying down on the cool and hard surface, you tried to stop your recurring headache from returning by relaxing.

You tried to think back to last night, or more specifically back to the period of time where your memory's were most fuzzy.

Statics overwhelming energy. The sight of multiple cards flying towards you. Stabbing Canary. Glimpses of green. A king of clubs. It was all flashing through your mind at once.

It was overwhelming, but you didn't break focus. With your face strained in pain, the glimpses of last night began to show more and more green and less of your other memories.

'Will'

That thought came to mind as you remembered being pushed back by Canary's Cry before propelling yourself off of a green wall.
A green you wall you imagined creating before it was even made.

'Green. Will. Green. Will.
..................holy shit'

It clicked, something in your mind clicked.
'HOLY SHIT'

Your face was one of excitement and exhilaration as you were visibly shaking.

'I'M A GREEN LANTERN?!?'

"No, you aren't a Green Lantern"

Static looked at you like you were stupid as your expression of happiness did a complete 180.

"But-....but green"
"Hello? You ain't got no ring"
"I know but I can do "green" things"
"Doc must've gave you too high of a dosage"

Static nodded his head as if his assumption was correct.

"Isn't it possible that I used the power of a Green Lantern without a ring?"
"No"

It was an immediate shutdown, and Static even seemed to look a little offended.

"The rings are what gives the power of a Lantern to it's user, hence why they're called one of the most powerful weapons in the universe. It should be impossible for you to use its power without a ring"

You knew all of this, but, if that was really true, then why could you create that barrier?

"But what else could involve materializing something like a barrier made out of green and will?"
"Why do you say will?"

'Shit'

How do you explain a made up version of someone from your past whispered into your ear while you were in the verge of dying that you had an immense will?
Simple, you don't.

"Because it happened when I continued to get up despite Canary's cry"
"Wouldn't that be more desperation than will?"
"Are we getting into a debate or something?"

'He doesn't believe me'

Static, if you knew correctly, knows different Lanterns. And if what you do have is the power of one, then getting help from would be the best course of action.

"Look, I'll show you"

You turned your back to the Hero, shutting your eyes in concentration as you delved back into your memories.

Your face scrunched a little as you tried to grasp that feeling you felt last night, but through the fog that laid over those memories it felt impossible.

"What's something you have that will never die"

That familiar, almost sweet sounding voice echoed throughout your mind as you tried to remember that feeling, the feeling of creation. Still, it sounded like nails on a chalkboard to you.

But no matter how far you pushed, you couldn't properly remember. Everything was like a blur from the time you.....let go to when Static failed to follow through on his attack.

'Will. The ability to push forward through anything. Your ability to never stop. Your ability to resist and your ability to not break. To resist..........to resist'

What other time in this world had you resisted something so much that it could be described as an act of will?

'The Squad'

An image came to mind, one that you didn't even think of yet still popped up.

That yell.

When you were about to die. When you were absolutely sure you were about to die. When you let out that yell, that final scream of defiance. When, even though it was going to happen, you still refused. You still resisted.

Those emotions, those feelings, in a split second it all came bubbling to the surface. It wasn't a form of desperation at all, but an unrelenting instinct to go against what this world planned for you.

It was, simply, your will.
Something inside your body permanently shifted as your mind came to that conclusion.

At that second a barrier of hundreds of green hexagons burst into reality, each one perfectly connected to form a wall that lit up the bright room.

It was way bigger than your first barrier, a lot, bigger. But it was only after a second of summoning the green energy that a black liquid began leak from your nose.

By the time you noticed it, your expression of pure glee turned into one of bewilderment. The sound of a heartbeat, a loud thump, seemed to trigger a bile to appear at the back of your throat.

You instantly began to vomit the same black substance that leaked from your nose, an intense feeling of pain overtaking that feeling of happiness you once had.

You could barely breathe as the black came out in an almost never ending amount, your vision going blurry as your hearing filled to the point you could barely make out the screams of Static.
Then, like you had a seemingly infinite amount of times, your vision went black.

You gasped for air as your back bender in its belly up position, your eyes springing to life as they snapped open.

'What- what the fuck'

You could barely form thoughts as you hand instinctively went to your nose, checking to see if that black substance was there or not.
It wasn't.

"We really need to stop mainly talking while you're in a recovery bed"

Hugo had his head laid down on a table not to far off in the room.

"Add a chick to the bed and it'll be less boring"
"Spoken like a true imbecile"

Hugo shook his head with a disgusted look, while you cocked your own back to stare up at the ceiling.

"What happened?"

Hugo stared at you as if you were the incarnation of his struggles in life. Which to be fair, you kinda were.

"I don't know"
You looked to the tired looking doctor.
"What do you mean you don't know?"
"That bile, or whatever the substance that came out of your body, is something not of science"

Hugo held up a flask of black liquid, the one that presumably came from you.

"I checked your body, everything was completely normal. This.....substance, is completely empty. There's nothing, no cells, no sign of anything I can use to identify it. It's just blank. Even when it comes to foreign materials, or even materials not of this world there should at least be something there, but there's not"

Hugo stopped swishing around the liquid and placed it down, before turning his attention to you.

"How many times has this happened to you?"
"Twice"
"That's it? It's not a recurring thing that's been happening?"
"Nope, just the day of the Heist and today"

Hugo looked at you incredulously, before shaking his head and bringing a hand to his chin.

"No no, this is good. This narrows it down"

While the doctor had begun to think, you decided to ask a question that you had been repressing ever since the conversation started.

But before you did, you felt a familiar bile in the back of your throat.
You immediately leaned over a side of the bed where, thankfully, a garbage was laid out for you to vomit in.

It was hard to breathe, and you felt your hearing go dull as the muffled sounds of Hugo in the background seemed to be out of focus.

But before that familiar black could draw you in, you forced yourself to snap out of it.

"L/N!"

Hugo had both of his hands on your shoulders, something you didn't even notice until now.

"I'm- I'm f- fine"

The black substance was running down your lips, and your breathing was completely not under control.

"Enough lies. I don't need someone to put on a show of bravado L/N, save that for Virgil"

Hugo handed you a napkin which you used to wipe the liquid, but instead of throwing it out like initially planned you handed it back to Hugo who had his hand out expectantly.

Deciding now was the time to ask that question, you did.

"Can you tell me how long was I out?"
"A day"
"Son of a mother"
"Interesting phrase, now please shut your mouth while I think"
"No"
You managed to cough out your defiance.

A visible vein appeared on Hugo's face, but his expression never shifted. It was quite the impressive feat.
'What he gets for probing my mind all the time'

Swing as you were well enough to retort like that, Hugo continued in his questioning.

"Static told me you manifested a barrier of green, one that was quite enormous before you passed out. Have you ever done something similar to that?"

"Yes. I made a smaller barrier on the day of the Heist.

"The powers of a Lantern but without the ring"

You looked at Hugo, only to find his own eyes locked onto you like a hawk. It was an expression you've seen before, and one you didn't like. An expression of malicious curiosity.

"So, does this liquid have some connection to when I use a Lantern's powers?"

You were still completely, utterly confused on how you had the powers of a Lantern. Or when you got them. 'A Lantern's powers require a ring don't they? I'm pretty sure I would've remembered if I picked up a Lantern ring'. But at this point, you decided to first figure out the reason for your blackouts before questioning how you got these abilities.

"I am unsure, but they do have a connection"

Hugo snapped out of thoughts and continued with the topic at hand.

"We have to study it. Now L/N I don't want you to be out for another day, so try and create the display Static told me you showed him but on a much smaller scale"

Although a bit hesitant, you nodded your head and closed your eyes. The fear of that sensation that came up every time that liquid appeared made you hesitate even more, but you pushed that fear to the back of your mind.

'But how do I reduce it? I can't control whatever this is, and I didn't even mean to create that huge barrier I made that other day'

You once again attempted to grasp that feeling of will from that night. Only this time, you didn't try to take hold of the whole thing.

But it was out of reach, what you felt in the Happy Room seemed so distant compared to now. Was it because your mind naturally went to that memory and now you were trying to force it?

But, although it wasn't what you had wanted, you get your mind naturally drift.

How could you trigger it?
Then, an idea came to mind.

"In brightest day, in darkest night"

If you were being honest, you didn't even memorize the chant. It was as if your words were being guided by something, like you weren't even the one speaking.

"No e-..................none, shall escape my sight"

You hesitated, not following through on what was supposed to be said. Despite that, you felt that familiar feeling begin to surge.

"Let those who worship their own might"

Once again you failed to properly say what was necessary, but something inside you still reacted. Your eyes shut close as you tried to take a strangle hold of the buzz that seemed to flow throughout all parts of your body, your eyes closing as they did so.

"Beware my power"

Your eyes opened, revealing your E/C eyes to now be a bright green.

"Green Lantern's light"

Suddenly forming over your outstretched hand's palm, a tiny green barrier made up of around 20 small hexagons appeared over it.

"Haha...haha.....HAHAHAHAHA"

You began to laugh a joyous laugh, as a look of pure disbelief but also wonder showed on your face. You had powers. You had powers.

"This is"-

You couldn't find the words to describe what you were feeling, it was truly indescribable.

You were so caught up in the moment, that you didn't notice a much smaller amount of black liquid compared to the previous times beginning to flow out from your nose. Hugo however, did not miss it.

"I was right, it is connected to your usage of a Green Lantern's powers"

You absentmindedly nodded your head, still lost in the bright colour that the green was made up of, not truly paying attention to what Hugo was saying.

"L/N do you hear me?"
"Huh?"

You turned your head to face Strange, but when you did the small barrier that floated over your heads vanished.

"NO" you let out a cry of desperation.

"L/N PAY ATTENTION" Hugo let out one of frustration.

Hugo yelled at you as he tried to some avail to get you to hear what he was saying.

"That liquid, and whatever side-effects come from it seem to be a consequence of you using a Green Lantern's powers"

Your face, like glass breaking, completely shattered into emotions opposite of what you were feeling earlier.

"I JUST GOT SUPER MOTHERFUCKING POWERS AND YOU'RE TELLING ME I CAN'T USE THEM?!"
"YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE THESE POWERS IN THE FIRST PLACE YOU UNGRATEFUL"-

Hugo composed himself before he could go any further, stopping his outburst mid yell and returning to being calm and collected in an instant.

"It appears that as long as you don't use a high enough magnitude of said powers, the side-effects won't be as severe. You didn't even notice that that stuff was leaking out of your nose just now, and from what Static was telling me on the day of the Heist that stuff didn't appear until you both got back to the Asylum, which means if you use them at an all right amount, the effects won't kick in until a little later"

You nodded your head, everything from the past two? days finally connecting.
Man it was good to have a smart person within your vicinity.

"Now, rest until the auction. We only have a few days. This will be either our graves, or our door into the 9th Circle"

You nodded your head, looking at the hand that your barrier floated over a few moments ago.

A few more preparations, and then this game would truly get underway.

And that's it, the next chapter is the beginning of the Auction Ark.
Also, sadly, I'm taking a few week break because I'm gonna be working my ass off for this next part, hope you all don't mind.
On the bright side, I posted the first 6 chapters to my Marvel Y/N story (shameless plug I know) that's connected to this so if you want to, go check that out.
Anyways, ciao.
