Frenchman Alexandre Dumas was born in 1802, and passed away in 1870, at the age of 65. He enjoyed success as both a playwright and a novelist within his lifetime. Some of his most well-known works include—Les Trois Mousquetaires (The Three Musketeers), Vingt ans après (Twenty Years After), and Le Comte de Monte Cristo (The Count of Monte Cristo).

Our discussion questions for this week:

A historical setting painted the backdrop of Dumas' most successful creations. How do you think his plotlines may have been received had they been told in what was a modern setting at the time? What themes in Dumas' works do you feel appealed the most to audiences then, and what do you think still resonates with readers now?
