Clay's POV

'And then this will be your room!' Yael's mother and technically my foster mom exclaimed as she opened the door for me. I looked around at the normally sized room, a bed, a desk, a closet and basically everything I needed.

'You can take a moment to put down your stuff or you can come downstairs to eat something with us!'

'I have uh-,' I started, looking at Yael next to me. He grabbed my hand and knew what I wanted to say, but didn't have the courage to.

'Clay has AFRID,' he decided to help me. 'I've looked up a lot about it and he eats very limited foods because he can't deal with certain textures, smells or the way the food looks. He's afraid to throw up and often does when he can't swallow something.'

'Honey, I'm so sorry to hear that! What are some safe foods? If I don't have them right now, I'll go to the store right away to get you some.'

I shrugged slightly with a confused expression. 'Really? Because my other foster family didn't care and forced me to eat the things that I couldn't eat while Sapnap was allowed to get some safe foods.'

'Sweetie, we aren't like that. Yael told me what they've done to you and I'm really sorry that I didn't know this earlier. We are doing anything we can to take Sapnap to our place as well, but it'll take some time. Anyway, what's some of your safe foods?'

'It's very limited so I'm sorry to be so difficult. I can eat a cracker, but it has to be seedless and from the brand I always eat. I can eat rice, but prefer not to, and a certain brand of pasta, but very small ones so I can swallow it easier.'

I was afraid she would hate me for the list I was giving her, but instead, she started writing everything down as she looked at me to continue.

'Next to that... I like some cereal, but without milk. I like chicken, but only chicken wings and such because I choke on the other chicken types. I like hamburgers and some sausages. I can eat scrambled eggs, but not boiled ones, and certain types of fish. I can't eat meat, unless it's cooked well and easy to chew.'

She kept writing it down and nodded, smiling sweetly. 'Anything else? Be as specific as you can so I can make sure to get the right things.'

'I like pistachios, I can also drink milk and yoghurt, but without any chunks or I'll throw up. I like ice cream without chunks and some cheeses. Potatoes are okay and so are French fries, but I can't eat sweet potatoes. I only eat apples without the middle, no fruits that include seeds.'

'Okay,' she replied. 'And sweets or biscuits?'

'Very limited... I'm so sorry for being so difficult. You must regret wanting to take care of me already. There's sexual videos of me all over the internet and I can't even eat.'

'We've supported Yael through his whole transition. We support your sexuality and it wasn't your choice to see these videos all over the internet. Next to that, AFRID is a type of a feeding disorder. I would have helped my children with their disorders too and you're my child now.'

'So you... don't mind that I'm- gay?' I asked.

'No, of course we don't. Yael still thinks we don't know he's gay and met you on a dating site,' my mother teased him, Yael's face flushing red.

'Mom!' he yelled out, rolling his eyes.

'What? It's true, right? If you want to date, I'll allow it, but please don't make a scene if you ever break up.'

'We won't date!' Yael exclaimed, causing me to nod. 'We've already talked about this and we don't feel attracted to the other that way so don't worry.'

'Robbie, though,' I mocked him as I winked.

'Shut up!' he shouted. 'I regret ever suggesting for you to come here!'

'Oh, so Robbie is the one who has made you so excited yesterday evening,' my new foster father said as he walked into the room with a smirk. 'Good to know.'

'I'm leaving. I can see it happening already, Clay is going to side with you and will destroy my mental health.'

I stayed quiet to figure out if he was joking, but then he laughed and wrapped his arm around me. 'That was a joke, Clay. You're making me laugh, you're not ruining my mental health.'

I chuckled softly and then looked at my parents. 'Would I maybe... be allowed to take some- people home once? It's completely fine if not, but I just like to hang out every now and then.'

'Why is that even a question, honey?' my father asked. 'Bring home whoever you want. I've made a few rules with Yael and that's that they have to either sleepover, but be quiet, or leave before twelve.'

'That's okay... and uh- my alcohol usage?'

'We knew this beforehand and we are going to support you as much as we can. We see this as an addiction and we would love to help you beat it, but only if you're ready. If we do it alone, it won't help.'

'I want to beat it, but... it's difficult.'

'Mental illnesses are really difficult,' my father replied. 'But we'll never give up on you and treat you like our son. Yael has all the help he can get and we wanted him to switch schools, but maybe it'll get better once you go there as well. If not, we'll still switch him to another school.'

'Robbie and Jimmy are also switching schools and we'll stay close to him. I just really... miss Sapnap.'

'Isn't Sapnap sick today?' my mother asked, causing me to frown.

'No? He isn't sick?' I mumbled with a confused tone in my voice. 'He is getting ready for school.'

'No, I think he's sick and can't go to school!' my dad exclaimed. 'I think you might need to pick him up because he is too, way too, sick to go to school today.'

I only now realised they were trying to get an excuse for me to pick Sapnap up and take him home, my smile filling half of my face from happiness.

'Oh my goodness, I think so too!' I yelled as I sped to the outside door, grabbing my school bag.

'Don't carry something on your shoulder. We put it back, but it's still weaker right now and can easily dislocate again. Let's get in the car and pick up the awfully sick Sapnap... I think he really needs to recover here!'
