Fogpaw has always been an anxious cat, afraid that his abilities are lesser than his brother's. His training goes well for the first moon, but after that, he starts seeing his mentor, Rookwing, less and less. It gets to the point where Fogpaw is seriously behind, and almost dies in a battle when he is 11 moons old. He hears his mentor sneaking out of camp one night, and learns that he has been meeting a she-cat from another Clan in secret. He also learns that this she-cat is expecting kits.

   Terrified of losing his mentor and having to start back at square one, Fogpaw blackmails his mentor into training him on a regular basis again. Fogpaw earns his warrior name, Fogmask, just one moon after his brother.

   However, his past catches up to him when his mentor's mate joins the Clan. Rookwing announces that his apprentice blackmailed him for moons in front of all the Clan. Fogmask is exiled a few days later. His childhood friend, Peachbreeze, comes with him. As anger and bitterness grow inside Fogmask, so does a love for his companion. They become mates just a few moons after exile, and are expecting kits soon after.

   Fogmask still hasn't forgotten his mentor though. He blames Rookwing for his unfair life because the only reason he blackmailed him in the first place was because Rookwing wasn't training him. One day, Fogmask sees Rookwing patrolling the border alone. He seizes this chance to end his enemy once and for all.

   What he did not know was that one of his kits, who are apprentice-aged by now, witnessed the murder. The kit runs to the Clan to warm them, and Fogmask is hunted down and killed. (This could have a sequel that is about the kit that saw his father kill Rookwing)
