Eddie had a sleepless, humid night. He found out that the hammock wasn't really a good place to sleep as he had trouble with it all night long. He got himself into numerous situations where he'd either almost fall because of his rolling around, or actually fall. Sometime in the night, when the crickets and cicadas were the loudest, Eddie found himself on the dirt covered floor of the hideout. He was already so exhausted he almost spent the night on the ground, but then he remembered the spiders.

He spent the rest of the night sitting in the hammock, leaning his head against the back of it and hoping to doze off. He never did.

Hours passed and sunlight soon peaked out from the cracks of the trapdoor. Eddie opened his eyes and looked around the hazy hideout. His eyes were dry from staying up all night and his muscles ached from the uncomfortable positions. He closed his eyes again and slowly started to doze off, the tiredness finally catching up to him.

His chance at sleep was quickly cut off, though, when bike tires rolled over dirt and snapped twigs. Eddie breathed in sharply and sat up, his eyes fixed on the trapdoor. Eddie's heart pounded harder as the bikes stopped and the voices got louder. The adrenaline and anxiety from the anticipation quickly overpowered his exhaustion.

A grunt sounded right before the trapdoor cracked open, dirt crumbling down to the floor. Eddie pushed his feet into the floor, pushing himself backwards to create space between him and whoever was outside.

"After you," Ben said with a motion of his arm.

Beverly snorted lightly and turned around, slowly climbing down the ladder steps. Eddie had seconds to either hide or make up an excuse as to why he was there. He stood up and quickly rounded the pole the hammock was suspended on, his feet skidding across the dirt floor.

"Eddie?" Beverly asked, her hand lingering on the ladder. Eddie's stomach dropped. She studied the darkness before taking a step closer. "I saw you, you know," she said. Ben crouched down and craned his neck so he could see down into the hideout.

Eddie breathed out shakily and closed his eyes. He's been caught. Beverly stepped farther into the hideout, her boots crunching on the dirt. He swallowed thickly and rounded the pole again, coming into view. "Hello," he said, his voice small. Beverly raised an eyebrow and Ben finally came down the ladder. "What are you doing here?" She asked as Ben walked up behind her.

Eddie shifted his weight. "Can I not just hang out down here?" He asked. "You can," Beverly said, "I'm just wondering why you're down here. Don't you hate this place?" Eddie raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why would I hate it?"

"You did kind of insult me when I first showed you all," Ben said and Beverly nodded, agreeing with him. Eddie closed his eyes and cussed under his breath. "Okay fine," he said, throwing an arm into the air. He'd realized he had no way of escaping this. "I was waiting for Rich."

Beverly's eyes lit up with excitement. "You're talking to him? Oh, yes!" She grinned at him and clasped her hands together. "When's he getting here? Ben and I can leave." She pointed to Ben and stepped closer to the ladder. Eddie shook his head. "That's okay, Bev," he said before she could force Ben out of there. "I don't know when Rich will get here. What time is it anyway?" Ben lifted just wrist and read the time on his watch. "It's almost 10," he responded.

Eddie hummed shortly and moved across the hideout to the swing. "Why are you two here, anyway?" He sat down and slowly rocked himself back and forth. "Ben came down here because he wanted to decorate a bit more," Beverly said as she looked over at Ben. He nodded and looked around the space. "Richie was complaining about the dirt he got on his clothes, but dirt down here is inevitable," Ben explained, "and Beverly said she'd help me clean up a bit so it's not as.. messy."

Beverly smiled at him before turning back around to Eddie. "Good idea. It is very gross down here, at least Stanley's caps help with the dirt in our hair," Eddie said as he kicked the ground, dust and dirt flying into the air and dancing around in the sunlight. "Yeah," Bev said, agreeing. She stuffed her hands in her back pockets and spun on her heel. "But, if you're making up with Richie we can always come back later," she said, looking over at Eddie with a hopeful expression.

"Beverly," Eddie said as his thumb picked at the rope. "I'm not even sure when he's coming. You guys can just do whatever you were gonna do while I wait." Her shoulders fell and she walked over to the main table. "Fine," she said. Ben told her he'd be right back and went up to retrieve his supplies before throwing it down into the hideout. The box smacked the ground, making dirt billow up onto the air.

"Sheesh," Eddie muttered as he moved away from the dirt. "How much of that shit is down here?" Ben climbed back down the ladder and Beverly shrugged. "That's," she gestured to the dirt in the air, "is why we're cleaning up down here." Eddie leaned his head against the rope and watched as the two got to work. He hoped Richie wouldn't be too long..
