"And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light."

You studied Light Yagami closely as your younger siblings, Jayden and Hannah, stuck close to your heels. Seeing him outside of his school uniform, it became somewhat understandable as to why women seemed to fall head over heels for him. He was tall, slender, and had narrow features. He always seemed to be present but right out of touch; women and men alike always seemed to go for the men who were emotionally unavailable.

"How long have you been living in Japan?" Light asks, his hands in his pocket. He turns to look over his shoulder and offers you a smile.

"As long as I've been in school" You pull your siblings closer to you, telling them to not stray too far. They seem upset at the comment, but this isn't The United States. It's crowded - probably the most crowded place you have ever been in - and you want to keep a close eye on them. Furthermore, you wouldn't trust Light Yagami with your wallet let alone two young children. Perhaps it was harsh of you, but your intuition had never failed you.

"And how about the little ones?" Light asks, "What are their names?"

For a second, you consider giving fake names - but it's no use. He's already pretty close with your family, he'd only be embarrassed if he were to call them by their real names and furthermore, your parents would simply correct him.

"Hannah and Jayden?"

"And how old are you, Hannah and Jayden?"

"I'm eight!" Jayden answers almost immediately, "I just turned eight yesterday! I am growing up really fast!" Jayden offers Light a bright smile, to which Light returns warmly. It seems as though he has a bit of a soft spot for children - or he's faking it. He couldn't really tell.

"And what about you, Hannah?" Light says, looking over to Hannah as they shuffled through the crowd.

"Thirteen." Hannah responds. Hannah was overall unhappy to be living in Japan - and you couldn't blame her. Before the move, she was supposed to spend her eighth grade year with her closest friends. However, she was ripped from her school and everything she knew and shipped halfway across the world. Many of her friends were really impressed that she was moving to Japan and even wished your father the best of luck. However, Hannah remained unimpressed by what your father did. She simply wanted to have a normal life doing normal things with her normal friends. Again, you couldn't blame her.

"Do you two like ice cream?" Light asks.

"Yes!" Is Jayden's immediate response. Hannah only grunts in response - indicating that she was interested in ice cream. The two had always had a sweet tooth.

"Here, I'll show you my sister's favorite spot" Light said.

"So you have a sister?" You piped up.

"Yes." Light's response is curt and short.

"What's her name?" You inquired as Light held the door open for your younger siblings.

"I'm sure you'll learn it soon enough" Light evaded the question.

"Are you protective of your sister."

"Incredibly." His expression was a bit steely. "With my father being the head of the Police, I can't exactly be giving out the names of my family. At least not comfortably. You never know who's listening" As you stepped through the door, it closed gently behind him - the bell attached to it giving a slight ring. "Maybe even KIRA"

You paused for a moment as your siblings made their way to the glass, looking at the ice cream flavors. The air between you and Light Yagami was so thick you might as well have been able to cut it with a knife. You weren't sure why, but it almost seemed like a threat. You shook the thought out of your head.

"You sound really paranoid"

"Are you not paranoid of losing your family, given your father's line of work?" Light asked.

You looked over to your siblings, focusing on watching the two talk about what ice cream flavors they wanted to try. Light made a valid point - one that you hadn't even thought about. The fact of the matter was that you were so used to your father simply getting whatever it was that he wanted, it never occurred to you that you could lose him or his family. Things like that just didn't happen. Somehow, at the end of the day, your father simply locked up the people he was meant to lock up. Suddenly, you felt uneasy.

"No" It was a lie and you know he could see right through it, but you kept up the ruse. "At the end of the day, my father locks up the people he's been meaning to lock up" You shoved your hands in your pockets.

"That's the same with my father. It seems like the FBI has sent a talented team of agents. KIRA should be locked up in no time, I have faith in that" Light commented.

You studied him. Something about him seemed off - slightly twisted - and you couldn't get that thought out of your head. Once more, you decided to ignore it.

"How long has your father been working in the FBI?" Light asked as the two of you approached the glass.

"That's classified information." You responded sternly. "The fact of the matter is that not even I know" You ran your tongue over your bottom lip to dry the cracked skin. You turned your attention to your siblings. "Have you picked out what ice cream you want? Feel free to get whatever size... after all, it's on Light" You cracked half a smile - your first for the day.

"Of course" Light responded, half of a smile draped on his lips.

Your brother picked two scoops of chocolate and your sister two of vanilla. They had always been plain and simple.

"Are you not going to have anything?" You asked Light as he pulled out his card to pay.

"No, are you?" He retorted.

"No. I don't like sweets."

"Is there anything else I can buy you instead? Soda? A bottle of water?"

"Nothing."

The four of you sat down in a small corner at the back of the shop, your siblings enjoying their ice cream. You could tell that he was thinking of something - that his mind was reeling - but you couldn't quite tell what.

"Has your dad been an FBI agent for as long as you can remember?" Light asked.

"I don't remember." Another lie. "Why are you so interested?"

"Oh, my father has been The Chief of Police for as long as I can remember - probably since I was born. It's been a really long time. Something me and other task force children bond over is the fact that our fathers seem to be neck deep in work with no time for us" Light responded. You couldn't bring yourself to believe that he really cared about whether or not his father paid attention to him.

"Interesting." Was your short response. Something pressed you to not respond to Light or entertain questions about your family - especially given the fact that he had reminded you that you could lose them at any moment. For a second, you got the feeling that someone else was with you - but you could only count four people at the table. You turned your head to look over your shoulder, seeing a few people pass by. The feeling of being haunted was eerie, but you dismissed it.

"Don't you have any questions for me?" Light asked.

"No, not really."

"You're not very talkative, are you?"

"Not really."

"Do you only have that one response?"

"Probably."

Light didn't seem frustrated. Rather, he seemed amused at your short responses. For him, it had been quite some time since a fellow student hadn't fallen to his feet in practical worship.

Over the next hour - small talk ensued. Nothing important - all about school, asking about your siblings school, and among other things. It was all very uninteresting, but nonetheless it did pass time. Soon enough, you came to the conclusion that perhaps your gut was wrong.

"Well, it seems like we should be getting you and your siblings back to your apartment" Light Yagami glanced at his watch, "As the curfew your father set is fast-approaching"

Light Yagami wasn't evil.

"I agree" You responded.

Just like everyone else, he was boring.
