WHEN FEELINGS ARE INVOLVED

*

Alexis has been watching the game. This time she's looking at it differently. Usually, she'd only look at Michael. Well, she would look at him most of the time. Her gaze is now entirely fixated on the curly blonde and Ashton dancing in the goal once the ball isn't there. It makes her giggle.

She's glad she still gets treated the same by both of them. They don't look at her any differently. Honestly, she couldn't be more thankful for that.

Once Ashton notices that she looks at him, he waves happily. He's such a goofy guy every now and then. She waves back at him, and someone stands beside the girl at that exact moment. She looks at the figure and quickly realizes it's her other best friend.

"Cal!" She exclaims happily, hugging the guy tightly. "It feels like I haven't seen you in ages." He chuckles and holds her as well. Calum has been on the stand for the entire game and didn't notice his best friend. His girlfriend - who's still sitting there - was also pretty invested in the game. Usually, Calum looks around to seek Alexis, but he loves that his girlfriend is so into the game. It made her look even more adorable than she actually is.

"You might want to watch," Calum says. A frown grows on her face, and she looks back at the game. Her green eyes seek the ball on the opponent's side. She quickly notices Michael running with the ball on his feet.

"Pass it to Hemmings," she whispers to herself. Calum notices and chuckles. He can't help but silently agree with the girl. Luke is literally free, and he could score it from that angle. Only he can do that.

Maybe he's the team captain because he can make anything work on the field.

At that moment, Michael passes the ball to Luke, making Alexis cheer inside. It's a few more seconds on the clock. If they don't score, it will be a tie and not look good for them. They have never lost a game, so a link feels like a loss, mainly because this opponent is lower on the ranking.

"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon," Alexis says softly, jumping in her place to shake the nerves off.

Luke shakes off the adrenaline in his body as he receives the ball ideally. From both sides, there are already people trying to steal the ball. His heart is beating a tad faster. He closes his eyes for less than a second; it's not even blinking. It's a small thought of him crossing the way like he always does, as if he can see clearly. It's like taking a breath after you've been hyperventilating.

Once he blows out a puff of air, he runs faster toward the goal and shoots it hard when he spots the perfect place. Hoping that if the keeper touches it, it will be too hard to catch anyways. It has worked before.

In awe, everybody watches the ball, but the second Luke really looks at it. He started cheering inside; he scored it. There's no way in hell the keeper will catch this perfect shot. And so it does; the ball rolls in the net, which makes everybody cheer. Michael runs toward the brunette on the sideline and hugs her. He gave the perfect assist; Luke has to admit it.

On the sideline, Alexis is still cheering and happily jumping around. The referee's whistle gets blown at that moment, letting them all know they had won.

Guys on the team run toward Luke to lift him, but all he has eyes, for now, is the happy girl on the sideline. She is being so incredibly joyful about their win. After seconds he takes in the success and enjoys being carried by his teammates.

"Where's Scarlett?" Alexis asks her best friend. The field is empty now, and they're taking showers... And whatever else may happen there. Calum turns around, and at that moment his girlfriend is in front of his nose. They share a kiss, and he wraps his arm around her shoulder. "How have you been?" Alexis asks the girl, smiling brightly.

"I've been good! Really busy, though; how have you been?"

"Good, good," Alexis says. "God, I missed you guys," she says right after, wrapping her arms around them.

"We're actually going to have lunch somewhere with Michael and his date." A frown grows on her face. Does Michael have a date? "Wait, you didn't know?" She shakes her head at the question. "Well, there's this guy he's been talking with for a while now, and they've met before, but he wanted to go on a double date. At first, he wanted to take you with him, but then you also had to get a date, unlike you can't. I mean, you're hot." Scarlett looks at him with a frown, and so does Alexis. "That's not what I meant." The smirk on Alexis' face grows. They all know well what he means, but it would be the funniest thing to see how he will get out of his situation.

Alexis and Scarlett look at each other once they notice Calum's anxious face. At that moment, they burst out in laughter. "I hate you guys," he mumbles, quietly laughing himself.

"There's Mike!" Scarlett notices. The hands of Scarlett and Calum intertwine, and a small smile appears on Calum's face. Fuck, he loves it. Michael walks up to the small group of friends; his hair is still wet, neat clothes cover his body, and a sports bag is thrown over his shoulder.

"You didn't tell me you had a date?" Alexis immediately starts. Michael's cheeks turn red once he gets confronted about it. "Did I make you feel like you couldn't tell me?" She asks after a long silence. Michael shakes his head immediately.

"That's not it, I promise," he runs his fingers through his hair, looking for the right words to say. "I thought you'd be busy considering school and things. And I didn't want to force a date out of you."

"But you didn't tell me," she says. "You could've avoided the question because I'd say go with Cal, but you didn't think for one second to tell me?"

She isn't mad or disappointed; she feels like she's been a bad friend to him. She has no reason for that; she does not. It's just the fact that he hasn't told her. They used to share everything.

"Al, we don't have to share everything." Her eyebrows rise at his words. He used to overshare every detail. His words take her aback. "I'm not even sure if this will work out."

Of course, it won't. The man has been in love with her for centuries.

They have been saying that they don't see each other romantically, but it has been a lie. Michael has been in love with the girl for so long, and he can't stand that everybody on the team is talking about her the way they do. He wants her all for himself, and that's too much to ask. So now he's got to make her jealous. It might be a boy, but in his defense, the boy is pretty damn attractive.

"It's fine... I had plans anyways." She says. She doesn't have plans. "I just wish you would've told me. You always tell me," she smiles weakly at him.

"I just told you," he says. Somehow with those words, blood starts to boil in Alexis' body. You can not say something like that, not now. "However, do you need a ride home?" She shakes her head. Calum notices the tension between the two and hugs Alexis goodbye to avoid feeling awkward. They all say their goodbyes. Michael and Calum are walking beside each other while heavily talking, while Calum's hand is placed on Scarletts lower back.

Alexis walks toward the dressing room and waits for Ashton to come out. She has no idea whether he has some plans. Usually, they go out for drinks. It's OK if he does; she wants a heads-up on whether she needs to walk home.

"Finley," he breathes out. Alexis looks beside her to find the curly blonde way more attractive than he should be. Is it wrong to say she wants to jump the guy and have a nasty make-out session?

His wet curls dangling on his head, some grey sweats covering his legs, and a white shirt loosely hanging over his chest. Alexis bites back the urge to put her lip between her teeth. He looks way too delicate.

"Hemmings," she says, leaning back against the wall. "Are you guys planning on drinking?" She asks him, but she is growing impatient. He shrugs his shoulders. "How don't you know?"

"Well, they're in there, and I'm here. Use your brain, Finley." She rolls her eyes and sighs deeply.

"I'm so fucking bored." Luke looks at her. The way her brown curls fall over her shoulders. The way the false lashes she always wears look so perfect on her. The green in her eyes always shows the most beautiful color. The slight freckles on her cheeks. Those perfectly shaped lips...

"Yeah, I have nothing planned, so I'll probably be bored as well," he says, unsure where she wants to go with her statement.

"Don't you have some bitches to fuck?" She asks, looking up at him. This time he rolls his eyes. He drops the sports bag from his shoulder and lets it fall on the ground. Alexis' legs grow tired from standing and jumping, and she sits down. A frown grows on Luke's face before he decides to do the same thing.

He chooses what to answer. He doesn't want to respond with just a simple yes or no. Also, he can't be sassy and say a 'don't you?' thing. That would be messed up after the heart-wrenching story she told him. "And you care about that since when?"

"Remember when I asked you to kiss me, and you went full in, and I was joking?" She suddenly starts, catching the guy off guard. His cheeks turn slightly red, but Alexis is looking up and not noticing the behavior change.

"I remember that and won't let that be asked twice, joke or not." She chuckles. "Don't you have plans, though?" She shakes her head and looks at him. God, the way his curls fall is just... She envy's it. Her curls never lose like that. He probably doesn't even bother taking care of them.

"I told Mike I had plans," she says. "He suddenly has a date and didn't tell me anything. Almost as if he didn't want me to know." She fidgets with her fingers and brings her legs up. "I told him I had plans, so if I got invited out of pity, I could decline."

"Ale-," Ashton turns around to find the two enemies on the floor. Enemies? What a goddamn joke. "Hey, some of the guys are going drinking. Do you want to join?" She shakes her head.

"No, thanks, though. I'll walk home, so you don't have to worry about that." He smiles at her. "Don't you go with them?" She asks Luke. He shakes his head.

"I heard you're walking home, so I'm offering you a ride." He says, biting his lip. He's never done such a thing for a girl. His cheeks turn a darker shade of red. She better not rejects his offer.

"You're disgusting." She states. He frowns, but now that he's thinking back about what he said, he realizes.

"For once, I meant my car, not my dick." The other guys of the team come out of the dressing room and look at the two on the floor. Not quite believing what they're seeing. They never talked or showed respect for one another. They think they most definitely have fucked by now. And with how they treated each other, it would've been the most excellent hate fuck.

"Oh no, he definitely meant his dick." Stephan comments. "But mine is also an option." Alexis' mood switches immediately. God, she dislikes Stephan. He's always there trying to... Well... He's making the wrong jokes at the wrong time. He's desperate to get her into his bed. He's the type to say he railed someone when it only lasted seconds.

"I volunteer as tribute," Tristan joins the conversation. When you thought it couldn't get worse than Stephan, there's Tristan, his twin brother. "Are you planning on banging her? I would tap that."

"I am sitting right here," Alexis says, exhaling loudly. "At least I know why you're still single." She mumbles softly, which makes Luke chuckle.

"Oh, come on, you have like a perfect body. Tits look good as ever, especially when you're jumping, and they're bouncing and shit. Sometimes you almost give me a boner on the field, and that ass..." Alexis closes the jacket she has on as she realizes that her cleavage is showing. Never in a million years has she cared about that. She doesn't have an enormous chest, but it is to them. Luke stands up and looks at Stephan.

"Stop it now that you can," Luke says, intimidating the guy with his height. "You have enough money to get yourself a hooker and stop watching her. She doesn't like you, never will, and you won't get your dick wet by her, so move on." Alexis' lips softly curl up.

Never in a lifetime did she expect that he would defend her.

"You only say that because you're fucking her." Luke rolls his eyes at the comment. If only that were true, things would be much more fun right now. There's a nasty smirk on Tristan's face. "I don't blame you, though; she just can get better."

"And you suppose you're better?" Alexis laughs, arms crossing on her body. She didn't want to meddle, but how could one stupid guy know what was good for her? Tristan nods, indeed. "You're not." She tells him. He walks toward her, but Luke steps in between the two.

"Go get your drink and leave her alone. You pathetic piece of shit. She doesn't want you." Tristan walks away with the guy who has the same sperm donor. The rest of the team follows until they are alone again.

"Wanna go somewhere?" He asks.

"Do you get your bitches like that? Asking them to go somewhere and eventually fuck in your car?" He chuckles lightly before he leads the way toward his car. "No, seriously, how many have you fucked in your car?" He shrugs his shoulder.

"How can someone like you talk about sex that easily?" He asks her.

"Well, it's not my sex life we're discussing, so I'm good." She tells him. "I'm just curious as to what they see."

Idiotic bitch, as if you don't see it.

"Me too, honestly," he chuckles. "Sometimes it's easy, but some are playing hard to get laid later on as if they need to pretend mysteriously. I don't see why; I never cared to know them." She frowns. "I just make sure we're on the same page, a quick fuck. Not the caring after or anything else."

She steps into his car and looks at him as he drives off when they're ready. A silly smile forms on her face. "Are you gonna kidnap me, Hemmings?" He rolls his eyes. "What? It wouldn't be the worst thing that ever happened to me."

"That was fucking dark, Finley." He chuckles.

After some time, Luke parks the car. Alex looks around and takes in the place. It looks so beautiful, so calm. They're near the beach, but that's not where they go. There's a secret spot Luke knows, and somehow unconsciously, he went there. He's not even sure whether he wants to share the place, but maybe she needs it a little more.

"They have the best ice cream here," Luke tells her. "You have to taste it, my treat."

"Hemmings, wait..." She says softly when he starts taking her by the wrist. "Why are you doing this?" Her mind is racing. She knows he wanted to start over, but nobody can be this two-faced, right?

"Why am I doing what?"

"Being all kind and..." She sighs deeply.

"And what?"

"All kind, and sweet, and cute." She looks up before she looks at him. A silly smile has formed on his face. "You hated me; you despised me. We formed a truce, and now you act like everything never happened. I have a hard time believing this is real." She admits.

"We can be friends... Right?" She nods at the question. "I don't know what changed, but you aren't the same as you were before, either." There's a silence combined with a lot of eye contact. "....Ice cream?"

"Yes, please, let's go."

Alexis follows the tall blonde, soon inside a cute little ice cream store. It just looks very cozy. She isn't dressed for the occasion at all. She's wearing some simple jeans, a shirt that apparently shows too much cleavage, with a jacket from the team. She saw the jacket somewhere someday, and she had to buy it. The only thing that's underneath her shirt is some bralette. The day has cleared up, but to walk around in a bralette next to him? A hard pass.

As she gives Luke her order, he pays for the ice cream, and they walk out. She smiles as a form of a thank you.

"This shit is so good," he mumbles after biting.

"You're doing such a good job sucking and licking it clean," she says as Luke is sucking on the tiny spoon. Luke's eyes pop open, and he looks down at the girl beside him. She did not just say that. Her jaw falls wide open. "Ha! Praise kink!" She exclaims happily.

"You know it's mean because I can't say shit back." She chuckles.

"That's what's making this so much funnier for me," she sighs contently and watches her surroundings. "Where are we going?" She asks when they walk through some bushes. "This is sketchy, you know that, right?"

"I'm not going to hurt you, Finley." He says. Once they finish going through the bushes, they end up at a beautiful lake with a straightforward few on the sun. Her face clears up at the sight.

"This is beautiful," she says softly, sitting on the bench. "How do you know this place?" He sits down beside her.

"Sometimes I'm bored." He admits. "Then I drive someplace and just sightsee it."

"So... You're a disgusting tourist?" He sighs deeply, but a chuckle rolls off of his lips. "So, a praise kink and a tourist? Noted. Tell me more; I'm intrigued, Hemmings." He rolls his eyes but looks at the girl.

Her lips are coated with a thin layer of ice cream. Her freckles appear more now that her face is in the sun, the tint of both brown and blue in her green eyes because of the sun. Her hair has turned a little golden. She looks perfect. And fuck, he's holding back the urge to kiss her right now.

"What do you want to know?" He asks her.

"Why don't you want to commit?" He shrugs his shoulders.

"I suppose in that way, I'm not some sort of disappointment." She places the empty cup beside her on the bench and looks at him. "I mean, I'm just here for a good time.."

"Don't say not for a long time," she says, already cringing about it. He chuckles about it.

"It just seems so frightening to love someone." He admits.

"What makes you say that?" She lifts her legs up to hold them. Her head is resting on her knees while looking at the guy. He suddenly seems so vulnerable. He usually has an entire wall built around him.

"Everybody always leaves somehow," he says. "They stop loving you; they run away, they die. Eventually, it always ends." As much as Alexis likes to argue with him, it has no use. Somehow he's right, and she hates to admit it.

"You'll find someone, you know that, right?" She asks him. "C'mon, there's someone out there for you who won't leave you no matter what." He shakes his head and flashes an annoyed smile.

"Once they know everything, they will leave, trust me." He says.

"Tell me, and I will stay." His eyes flash an emotion he had never felt before, and she had never seen. Even though those words are small, he feels seen and heard.

"One thing at a time, Finley." He chuckles. He doubts as he looks at the water. That second, he looks back at her, and her eyes widen. He can't do this. He really cannot. "I bet I can make you wet," he smirks at her.

"You're not doing this! I don't have other clothes; I will freeze to death. Oh, and my phone! I can't just do that, I just started living with Ash, and I just got a job; you know you can't," she says, wanting to say more until she sees his face, unamused. He takes off his clothes until he's only wearing his underwear.

"I am going in; I won't judge if you are there in your lingerie or something. Otherwise, just put on my shirt, and I won't see a damn thing." He says before running into the water. Alexis keeps looking at the guy who loves floating around
