In the corner of a room, sat a girl, holding her legs close to her body and crying. She was Divya Srivastava, 28 year old and divorced. She was now living with her parents in a two BHK flat.

A small three year old girl approached her and wiped her tears. "Mumma, don't cry. Please. I will give you chocolate."

Divya hugged her daughter and cried more.

Suddenly, a woman entered the room.

"Go outside Diya."

Diya pouted, "But my Mumma is crying."

"Don't worry Diya. I will take care of your Mumma. Then she will not cry," saying so Mrs. Sunita Srivastava sent her granddaughter outside the room.

As Diya left the room, Divya stood up and wiped her tears. She said with determination, "Mom, I will not marry him."

Her mother got angry, "Why don't you understand Divya? He is a good person...."

Divya inquired, "Is he? I thought he drinks?"

Mrs. Sunita exclaimed, "Only occasionally."

Divya replied back, "It can become regular also."

Her mother almost screamed this time, "Why don't you understand Divya? He is ready to accept you and your daughter. Who does that? Do you think I and your father will think bad for you?"

"You thought right for me that is why I had to leave that Abhay," shouted Divya.

Sunita too raised her voice, "You had to leave him because of your behaviour."

"And was I wrong? Tell me. Was he right?" Divya screamed.

At that very moment Divya's father, Mr. Dinesh Srivastava, entered the room. He stood next to his wife and questioned his daughter, "Till when do you and your daughter plan to be a burden on us?"

"Burden? Am I a burden Dad? Is Diya a burden on you?" a crying Divya asked.

Instead of answering her question, Dinesh told her, "Tomorrow is your engagement. Get ready."

Saying so, Dinesh and Sunita left the room.

Divya collapsed on the bed, thinking, "Why? Why the hell I have to marry him? Am I really a burden on my family? Is my daughter not related to them? How can they trust a stranger? How can I trust a stranger? What if he hurts my daughter? No. I won't let anyone hurt her."

Her thoughts are interrupted by her daughter.

Diya comes running to her mother, "Mumma, why are Nana-Nani angry?"

Divya pulled her daughter and held her close to her heart. Tears escaped her eyes as she remembered her ex-husband and the reason for her divorce. She never wanted her daughter to know the truth but the so-called society did not care about a child's heart. They hurt her and blamed her. The child.....

Divya was lost in her thoughts, "Did I do wrong? Was I wrong? No. I did nothing wrong. Don't worry Divya. This marriage means nothing. In your life, there is place for just one person and that is Diya. I will show that man the hell on earth. He wishes to marry me naa. I will make sure that he enjoys his married life."

Making a firm decision, Divya got up and picked her daughter. Looking at her face, she told the child, "Mumma loves you a lot."

The child hugged her mother and cutely told her, "I love you too Mumma. More than you love me."

Little did the child know, how much her mother loved her, what she had done for her and what she had to endure for her! Childhood is sweet but misleading. It shows you the version of life which doesn't exist in reality.
