Never in my twenty-three years on this planet have I felt heat like today, the second I step outside my house it's like the sun is blistering my skin with a blow torch. Ready to bubble and melt right off the bone.

And yet I still have to work in this God awful heatwave.

The only upside is that the work for the manor is mostly inside, although there is no good ventilation or windows that work properly without falling off the hinges. Which is fantastic, queue the next few days of hell. Literally. Might as well be hell with this temperature.

When I turn up to placement mostly on time, I pray to the heavens that Ash isn't half naked like the other day. When it was half the degrees it is now, I couldn't be sure what to walk into but I didn't need my eyes wandering across his defined abs.

The night we had a one night stand, I barely got the chance to see his body as he bent me over the desk and fucked my brains out. And yet, looking at his toned body and beautiful muscles, it almost made me wish I went back for seconds somehow.

He sure knew how to work my body. Even with those eyes, he fucked me with my clothes on across the party. I'd be a liar if I said I hated it because I didn't, I lapped it up and thought of that night on repeat for the month after.

No one knew, no one ever found out. I couldn't let anyone find out.

Seeing Ash here brings back all those memories and it freaks me out that we somehow live in the same town. The town is fairly big but I've never seen him around before but Reese recognised him and he's too close to home now, nothing could happen between us again for my own sanity.

Luckily when I walk through the manor Ash has his overalls on over his shoulders, although I could tell he's already struggling with the heat. Sweat dripping down the edge of his cheek and beaded across his forehead.

Our gazes clock once, those deep green eyes hold my stare. I give him a nod before dumping my belongings in the opposite room and changing into my death like uniform.

Ash is already clearing out the last pieces in the living room, we successfully completed one room together. Only about twenty more to go.

We move to the dining room and separate across the room, removing paintings, candle sticks and ornaments across the room. It's messier than the last meaning it'll take longer but I guess we still have ninety hours to complete this shit.

A loud crash echoes through the manor making both of our shoulders jump in suspense at the sound. I thought the floor had opened up and the house fell through into a black hole, that's how loud it was.

Ash relaxes his spine and looks over at me with a confused look, I replicate his expression.

We both snap our heads to the direction of the sound and investigate, Ash slips into the back room and I follow him. Neither of us have been in here yet and good thing too, as he pushes open the door we see the large crystal chandelier now shattered and cascaded across the wooden floor.

A grand black piano now crushed and destroyed from the damage. Glass everywhere along with damage to the wooden floorboards, wires hanging from the ceiling.

"Jesus Christ," Ash mumbles, glancing around the room at what happened.

"This house is old," I comment. My arms fold over my chest as we inspect further but it doesn't surprise me. I bet this house is older than five hundred years and none of the interior has ever been replaced since then.

"Old and fucking dangerous." My lips flick up at his concern of the manor, he stares me down and shakes his head. "What?"

"Nothing."

His eyes study my face and he looks pissed. "If we were in here, we could be dead. I doubt they even had someone come round to survey this place to make sure it's even safe to work in."

"What did you expect? This place is ancient and the council don't give a fuck about people like me and you. Maybe they were hoping one of us would get injured or worse, we're a menace to society." I fold my arms over my chest but my tone stays light.

"God forbid if they're trying to kill us," he mumbles under his breath and takes off his gloves, running a hand over his face. "It just doesn't make sense for it to fall like that. Maybe disconnect some of the wires and hang low but not actually crash to the floor."

I scoff at his words, my head shakes. "What did you think it was? A ghost?"

Ash's eyes narrow towards me, he opens his mouth to speak and then reevaluates his words. "I don't know what it was but the logistics of it falling like that for no apparent reason is slim." His finger points to the damage.

My chest huffs out a sigh. "I don't know," I raise my shoulders. "Maybe it's the heat. Who fucking knows?"

His eyes wander over the mess again and I exit the room, walking back to the one we had already started today.

The heat inside the manor has already started rising, my body heat almost burning underneath my overalls. I hook my finger into the edge of my collar and pull at the material, trying to get some air inside the suit before I pass out on the floor.

Ash soon follows and before I know it he's unbuttoning his overalls, wiping sweat from his face and pulling the fabric from his back. I shouldn't be admiring the muscles across his shoulders and down his back but I couldn't look away. They ripple tightly, flexing and then relaxing as he ties it to my waist.

I swallow harshly and look away. God damn this fucking heatwave.

When we have an hour or so left I walk to my bag, searching for the bottle of water I put in here this morning. I take the plastic between my fingers and drag it up to my eyesight, barely any left for a drop.

A deep grunt escapes my lips and I retreat to the kitchen, twisting the cold tap. Nothing comes out.

"You've got to be kidding me," I curse, my mouth tasting like stinging nettles.

I press my fingers to the edge of the counter for a moment, craving just another drop of water. The heat now putting pressure on my head, making my eyes ache from the lack of liquids in my system

As I stumble back into the dining room, my lips salty from the endless sweat from my face. Ash glances at me, his eyes watching my face carefully. He takes two steps backwards and grabs his large water bottle from the windowsill and walks towards me.

"Here," he extends his arm.

My mouth waters at the sight of the bottle. I take it with my hand and he releases it and I screw off the lid, pouring half of it into my mouth and enjoying every second of it slipping down my throat. Cooling down my body instantly.

I wipe the edge of my mouth with my wrist and hand it back. "Thank you," I say gratefully.

He nods once and smiles. "No worries, don't want you passing out now." His eyes flick down my uniform. "Maybe tomorrow you should bring more water, it's going to be hotter than today."

The thought made me feel nauseous, how could it possibly be hotter than today? It's at least a billion degrees outside. UK weather is sticky and muggy, dry air and no wind.

The worst kind of heatwave.

With fifteen minutes to spare I admire our hard work, even when I'm dripping from every crevice of my body. I perch on the edge of a table and slump back against the wall, closing my eyes and enjoying the coolness of the bricks.

The table cracks beside me and Ash joins, pressing his bare back to the wall.

Both of us were covered head to toe in dust, dirt and glistening sweat. The sign of a good day's work.

I look towards Ash but he's already looking at me. My lips twitch to speak and I want to before I just say nothing and look like a total idiot so I settle with, "what are they going to do with this place?"

Ash exhales softly. "Didn't they say something about the council using it for events and stuff?" He responds. "But they're going to try their damned hardest to make as much money as possible, that's for sure."

I laugh shortly and nod. "You've got that right. Can't believe they've got us doing this shit."

His eyebrows crease at my words. "Could be worse I guess."

"Could it?"

"Could be picking up litter off the streets, getting rid of graffiti." He swipes the lid off his water bottle and downs a large gulp. I watch his throat as he swallows and I hate how my stomach clenches at the sight.

"Don't think this is much better," I say, glancing away before blood rushes to my cock.

Ash removes the bottle from his perfectly shaped lips and shrugs. "I'm just thinking of it as a renovation, except I'm not getting any of the benefits."

I chuckle quietly once, even catching myself by surprise. "If that makes your day go quicker."

"Well it makes it more acceptable in my mind. We're like a tenth of the way there."

"A tenth," I repeat, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in my heart. "That's just torture when you say it like that."

A car pulls up at the front of the house, the sound of tires against gravel makes both of us stand up instantly and straighten ourselves out. Ash finally covers up his chest by putting his overalls on properly, rushing to do up the buttons

"Hello?" Carol calls out as she walks through the foyer, her voice echoing off against the walls.

We step out of the dining room to greet her, a pair of black Dior sunglasses over her eyes and a sharp red lipstick. Her dark stiletto heels pierce the marble floor as she approaches us, clicking loudly.

"Oh hi boys," she grins, flicking the glasses on top of her head. "Haven't you guys worked bloody hard today? Especially in this heat, I'm very impressed."

She pops her head into the dining room and nods in approval, she scans the floor, the walls and the ceiling. A soft smile covering her lips as she admires our work.

"Sure have," Ash's voice ripples through my core.

"Well I just popped over to say you can go home, I'll sign you out for the day. Ten minutes early, better than nothing. Right?" She flashes a big grin.

"Right." I say instantly and she glances at me with a nod.

She signs our sheets and waves us goodbye, I give Ash one last glance before taking my bag and heading towards the door. Giving him a nod on the way out and he replicates my actions, no other words needed.

I couldn't wait to get home and take an ice cold shower, get rid of this thick layer of sweat and whip my mind into shape. As delicious as Ash's body looks, he's off limits and I need to get over that.

A one hit wonder. For both of us. We both got what we wanted that night and we went home satisfied.

Yet I still can't get his stupid image out of my mind, even when I force myself to think of someone else. Anyone else. Every time I always end up wandering back to him.
