He left. Literally. He was outside the barricade.

The only reason she knew this is because she caught Frick pouting. He was upset Kell took Godrick and Kar with him. Everyone else was upset that their future king was unsafe.

She wasn't worried until she realized everyone else was.

That was yesterday. Today she was a basket case. She knew she could call for him and he would come, but she'd rather cut out her tongue and stick it in her eye then to be that needy.

Julian found her hiding place and climbed under the bleachers with her.

"You lead the enemy to my location and you're going to wish I would have let Kellum have you."

"You still going tonight?"

"No choice. Brady is up my ass. Dude is relentless."

Tonight, they were opening the studio to all their friends. A grand opening of sorts.

And somehow, she'd been roped into singing. Brady was relentless, team him up with Johnny and it had been impossible to keep saying no. Add Julian's pleads and she was left baring her soul to all her friends.

She'd rather go nude in front of everyone. In a way, it was like going nude in front of everyone.

"Mad at me for chasing your boyfriend away?"

"I chased him off."

"That's true." He laid out then motioned her to him.

Something he's done zillions of times and she felt bad that she hesitated. If he noticed, he didn't mention it. Which only made her feel worse. "You know I love you, right? Like crazy love you."

"I do. I love you too. Always have, always will."

"Still glad you stuck with me?"

"Always." He kissed her forehead. "If she had been the one for me then she wouldn't have needed me to choose between her and you."

"I feel the same way."

"But does he?"

"We'll find out soon enough." If there was even a chance that they were mated, then he would have to show up sometime today or he'd start wigging.

Or they both would, she guessed.

"It would be better if he didn't. Then I could stop worrying about all this mark shit. I could stop worrying about all the queen shit too. You know as well as me, I'm no queen."

"Oh, I don't know. You've been ruling over me for as long as I can remember."

That earned him a pinch. "Not the same thing."

"Most girls would love to be queen of the world. There will be perks I'm sure."

"None worth the grief. You ever think about goody two shoes?"

"I do. Sometimes I wonder if she's okay or not, but there's also a part of me that doesn't want to know. If she's not okay it's better not to know. She made her choice, Jess."

She held him tight. "It's not too late for me to hunt her down and kick her ass. Say the word."

"You can calm down, ninja. I think if she was the one for me, I wouldn't have been having so much fun with Meg."

She smiled. "You should see her notebook. She's got Mrs. Julian Cross crossed out and now Mrs. Jeff Holden is on everything."

"Good for her. I've decided to slow down a little on dating and concentrate on me. On my best friend and her woos. On family. I'm having fun teaching all these aliens basketball, and to be honest with you, I think I'm kind of fitted for this peacemaker stuff. Plus, I'm in the best shape of my life."

"You can't get much more peaceful than it is."

"You'd be surprised. Yes, most of it is under control but this is still the world we've always known. There are troublemakers."

"Hayley." She said dryly.

"There's some rumors there's been trouble out of Sinclair and there are others. We aren't so much police offers as... well, peacekeepers. We are brought in to decide small things before they get out of hand. Kind of like your committee stuff before it's big enough to go to committee."

"How long before they realize that sometimes just telling someone that what they are doing is wrong is not enough?"

"Don't know, babe but I know I like what they are striving for. I think overall, they are good. Boring but good, and we can help them with that. I'm excited to be a part of all of it. Imagine a better world for our children. No perverts. No murderers."

"Sounds nice if we can pull it off."

"That's the nice part, Jess. I think they can. We can. As queen, you could make sure of it." At her look, he went on. "Just saying, if he doesn't rock your boat then fine, but if he does, then I wouldn't let the queen stuff be the reason you throw him back."

"I cuss and don't want anyone telling me what to do. What to wear and how to act. And those damn four advisors are this close to me telling them to kiss my ass. I bet they can't eat or sleep with how worried they are about Kell being stuck with me."

"Fuck them and anyone else who doesn't think my girl is good enough. I think you'd be great at it. And Kell must think the same."

"Well, maybe he isn't able to be bias about it."

"Or maybe he sees how great you are like I do."

"You're definitely bias"

He smiled. "Definitely."

"What about me not being able to share everything with you? I'd hate that."

"I know but things are changing. He must accept me, but I must accept him too. I can't always be first in your life. You'll have to let him be that."

She sighed and held onto him tighter. "Change is yucky."

"And comes rather you want it to or not."

"Were you able to find out anything? I didn't get much out of Frick. He's still pouting."

"Troublemakers. Two of them. Dezrick didn't like their test results and the two refused to leave. Started some stuff up at the gate so Kell decided to take them to an outpost."

"How dangerous?"

"You're guess is as good as mine."

"Dez?"

"I am not at______."

"Bitch, one day I'm going to get my hands on you."

"He'll be fine, babe."

"He only took two guards. That doesn't seem very smart."

"Please, Jess. Godrick is like a Viking warlord and Kar looks like she would love the chance at taking out an army or two. Two humans don't stand a chance against them. They found some survivors in Hawaii and are bringing them back too. It's very smart putting all the troublemakers too far away to be a problem."

"What about the ones still refusing to be tested? I heard there are a lot of them. Committee decided against making them. At least for now."

"They will come along. Sooner or later, they will run out of supplies."

"You really do like all this, don't you? You're not afraid at all? Of the changes? You won't miss the way it was?"

"Somethings sure, but not enough to make up for the good these people can do for us. The good they already have done." He caught her hand. "Unless you're talking about us?"

"It was great the way it was. Just the two of us."

"It was. And safe?"

She sighed. "Yes."

"You'll always have me. I'm not going anywhere." He kissed her forehead. "I'm proud of you for not running for the hills."

"Don't rule it out yet. Hell, too many more disturbances out of me and they may send me to Hawaii."

"You in a bikini every day? I could live with that."

"More than I can say for the big guy. He nearly had a heart attack at just the thought of me in one."

"Poor fool, doesn't know what he's missing."

A grin spread across her face and Julian groaned. "We want him to like me, remember?"

"I just don't want him to kill you, but yeah, that too. Don't worry. I'd never tell him it was your idea."

"See how bad I need some help keeping you in line?"

Since he thought the elbow she threw at him was funny, she caught a nipple through his shirt and gave it a twist.

"Okay. Okay. I give up."

"That's right, baby. Think twice about messing with me."

"You know what is weird?" She said after a few moments. "That I can lay here with you like this. I was worried about that since Kell has put some kind of voodoo fence up around me."

Julian gave her that smile that she loved so dearly. "That's because nothing can keep us apart. Not even a scary alien. And stop worrying so much. He'll come to love me."
