Two gin and tonics later, I get my elaboration.
“Welcome to the stage, Andy Sanchez!”
I look at her, surprised and confused. She smiles and winks before walking up to the stage. She doesn’t stumble or sway once. When she’s up in front of the mic, she nods to the DJ. He clicks and taps a few things before the song leaks from the speakers.
I can’t help but laugh at her choice of music. This song is literally a decade old. Even though it really isn’t a song to dance to, people are still out on the floor, gyrating their hips this way and that.
When the song nears the end, in my opinion, the best part of the song envelopes the crowd. Andy’s voice matches each note perfectly. She’s always been an amazing singer, but refuses to admit it.
“Burn this ****** down!”
The entire crowd screams out the line. I can’t lie, I was part of them.
The song finally comes to a close and Andy gets off the stage, the crowd cheering for her.
“You did amazing!”

She smiles, sitting on her stool.
“That’s why I needed the liquid courage, Skye. I wouldn’t have been able to do it otherwise.”
“And you didn’t even trip up on your words either. So why sing tonight and not other nights?”
She takes a sip of her drink before responding to my question.
“Daniel isn’t here to see me completely embarrass myself.”
“You wouldn’t embarrass yourself. I promise.”
She rolls her eyes, finishing off her drink with one last sip.
“Whatever you say.”
“I’m serious.”
“Let’s just go and dance!”
I can’t argue with her there. I’m ready to dance.
