Avoiding

I avoid Gavin for the rest of the night, sticking by Sonny's side. Even though I try my hardest to forget about the kiss, I can't. Sonny notices but thankfully doesn't mention anything. Not until he drops me off at least.
"Are you okay, Skye?"
"Yeah? Just a little tired that's all."
Lie.
"You could have told me. We didn't need to stay the whole night."
"I didn't want to ruin your fun."
He puts his hand on my shoulder, rubbing his thumb in gentle circles.
"You wouldn't have ruined my night. Just being with you makes me happy. Even just sitting here like this."
He shifts in his seat, angling his body towards mine, leaning in just a bit. I lean back slightly. I don't want to kiss him. Not on the same night his brother kissed me.
"Are you going to walk me up?"
I point up to the apartment. I can tell Sonny is a bit disappointed, at himself or at me I'm not sure.
"Yeah."
He climbs out od the Jeep and walks over to open my door. I reach down and grab his hand, getting out of the Jeep. I look up at him and give him a shy smile. This brightens his mood. He closes the Jeep door and escorts me over to the stairs, letting me walk up first. I can't tell if he is using this as a way to look at my butt or if he is just being a gentleman. Either way, I don't mind. I stop at the top, turning to look at him. We stand, staring at each other wordlessly for what seems like forever. It's a comfortable silence. He looks at me with emotion filled eyes. When he starts to lean down, the mood is lost and I tense up. Thankfully, the door to the apartment opens and Gavin appears.
"Oh good, you are home. I need your opinion on some things for the bar."

I am utterly relieved that he barged in. I fight the urge to hug him. Not only would that make things extremely awkward with the events from earlier, but hugging him in front of Sonny after he just tried to kiss me twice would destroy any chance I have with him.
"Are you gonna leave so I can talk to her or are you going to stand here all night, Sonny?"
I can see Sonny's jaw ticking as he restrains himself from saying something rude. Instead, Sonny replies in a calm voice, addressing me and ignoring his brother completely.
"I'll text you later, okay?"
I nod, leaning in to kiss his cheek. A smug look appears on his face while an annoyed one appears on Gavin's. If only I can explain my reasonings without sounding like an idiot it would make everything so much easier and ess complicated.
"Goodnight, Sonny."
"Night, Skye."
I watch as he decends the stairs, walking back over to the Jeep. He starts it and I wave as he pulls out of the lot. I turnand enter the apartment. Gavin is seated at the kitchen counter, papers spread out and his laptop in front of him. I walk over to him, leaning against the cool surface.
"What did you need my opinion on?"
"Nothing. I figured it out already."
Jealousy and anger fills his voice.
"That was just a way to get me away from Sonny, wasn't it."
He remains silent but I know the answer. I push away from the counter, heading back towards the bedroom.
"Thank you."
I close the bedroom door behind me, clicking on the light. Why did I just say that? I'm sending mixed signals in every direction. I continue to kick myself in the butt for saying that as I prepare for bed.
