2 years later...

I stomp up the stairs to our house, exhaustion from the day overtaking me. The diner has been incredibly busy ever since we reopened, and we've kept the bar going strong as well. Although I mostly just oversee the finances. It became very clear shortly after we got married that we'd need to hire a manager to oversee the day to day business of the bar. Ever since we hired someone, both businesses have been running smoothly.

Except for today.

Wren didn't feel well so I told her to take the day off which meant calling in one of the college students to help out at the diner. Collin isn't as organized as Wren.

Or able to remember table numbers apparently.

So when I finally make it home and see my wife sitting on the couch, all bundled up in a blanket and watching tv, well, it's a sight for sore eyes.

"Hey, baby." I say, leaning down to kiss her. She kisses me back and I already feel a little bit of stress from the day melting off my shoulders.

"Hey, love. How was your day?" She asks.

"It was alright. Just busy." I say, not wanting her to feel guilty for taking a day off.

"I missed you." She says with an adorable pout that has me chuckling.

"Next time we'll just close the place and take a day off together." I suggest and her frown turns into a beaming smile.

"I'd like that." She says softly, her expression turning warm as she watches me kick off my shoes. I let out a relieved sigh, pressing a kiss to her head as I pass her on my way to the kitchen.

"You hungry?" I ask her and she shakes her head.

"My stomach is still kind of weird." She answers, flipping through Netflix to find our show.

"You didn't watch it without me, did you?" I ask sternly. Her eyes go wide as she shakes her head.

"Of course not." She squeaks and I narrow my eyes at her.

"How many episodes?" I ask and she sighs, lowering her gaze to the floor.

"Only two. I swear." She answers and I chuckle a little.

"If you watch them again with me I'll let it slide. Just this once." I say and she grins at me.

"Deal." She answers and I head to the kitchen to cook myself some dinner.

I whip up some teriyaki chicken with noodles and vegetables, trying not to use too many spices so I don't upset Wren's stomach more. I head into the living room and sink into the couch with her, audibly groaning as my body relaxes for the first time all day. She goes to hit play on the show, but stops to look over at my food. She sniffs a little and I worry that it's too strong.

"That smells good." She says and I nod, taking a bite.

"It is good." I answer, waiting for her to hit play.

"Is there any more?" She asks and I shake my head.

"No." I answer, taking another bite. I look over at her and she's pouting again.

"Can I have some?" She asks and my mouth gapes in shock.

"I literally just asked you if you were hungry." I say and she shrugs.

"I wasn't hungry then." She answers simply and I huff out a frustrated breath.

"Baby, what do you mean you weren't hungry then? It was twenty minutes ago." I ask incredulously.

"I didn't know you were making that. I'm hungry for that." She answers, pointing at my food. She pouts out her bottom lip and I know I have already lost this argument. I pass the bowl to her and stand from the couch.

"Here. You eat this. I'll make more." I say, heading towards the kitchen.

"Thank you, baby. You're going to be the best father." She says.

It takes a moment for her words to register in my brain, but when they do I freeze mid step, nearly causing myself to fall over. I spin on a dime, looking at her with wide eyes, but all she does is smile and slurp some noodles into her mouth.

"What are you saying, Wren?" I ask, moving slowly back towards her.

"I'm saying I'm pregnant." She answers, her smile broadening as she watches my reaction.

I feel the breath leave my lungs, my heart pounding as the gravity of her admission takes over me. There's a twinge of worry that comes with it, but I push that away to savor this moment with the woman I love. I take the bowl of food from her and put it on the table before I sit next to her, pulling her into my arms carefully and wrapping myself around her. She tucks her little face into my neck and I can feel her wide smile as she plants kisses on my skin.

"I'm so incredibly, unbelievably happy." I murmur, tears of joy threatening to fall down my face as she giggles, obviously pleased with herself.

"Me too, baby. Me too. I went to the doctor today. They did an ultrasound and said everything looks perfect so far." She says and I nod, holding her a little tighter.

"I want to go to the next appointment. To every appointment. Every step along the way I'll be here, baby. I swear." I say earnestly. She pulls away to smile at me, kissing me gently before looking at me again.

"I know, Hux. I know. And that's why I'm not scared. There's no one else I'd rather do this with." She says firmly and I nod before showering her with kisses until she's laughing and pushing me away.

"You're incredible, Wren. I'm so grateful for you." I murmur in her ear. She kisses me again, then twists a little in my lap.

"That's great. I love you, babe. But can I eat now? That really does smell amazing." She says, motioning towards the food. I chuckle and grab it for her, setting her down next to me. I take a moment to marvel at this little creature who means so incredibly much to me. Then I look around our home, soaking in this amazing life we have together before a sobering thought over takes me.

"Hey, baby?" I say, gaining her attention.

"Yeah?" She asks, the word muffled around her mouthful of food.

"We really are gonna need a bigger house."
