The walk down the stairs was just a... walk down the stairs, it wasn't special but it felt like forever til we reached the bottom.

"Hey." I said to my mom and sister who were casually having a conversation using the word 'that' every two seconds.

"Oh." My sister said glancing up, her eyes flickering between Callum and I, "So, Uh, sorry we didn't knock or anything... if we knew you two were Uh- if it wasn't important I would've- you see the thing is-"

"Yo, chill out, we weren't doing anything. No need to have a stroke over it. Just, what did you need?" Callum asked, sticking his hands in his pockets.

"Oh, right." My sister and my mom shared a glance and I cringed on the inside.

Could they not be anymore obvious? I mean sending a discreet glance isn't as bad as just... talking with your eyes so obviously.

"Well, tomorrow there's this carnival thing, your sister has a ticket for her guy friend-" you mean the guy who has traumatized Callum and I, yeah, I know who you're talking about. "-but he's sick so she wanted to give the tickets to you." My mom smiled.

Callum made a face, then he made another face. Then his lips moved as if he was talking to himself, then he nodded his head.

"Stop." I placed a hand on Callum's shoulder, "If you think too hard you're going to explode."

Callum sent me a glare, "Yeah well at least I can reach things off the counter." He said.

I scoffed, "What does height have to do with anything? I'm talking about the gears in your head that are so rusty they could give you tetanus just by touching them".

"Oh I'm so offended." He said sarcastically.

"Oh come on, you just don't want to admit that I'm right."

"Admit that you're right? Admit that you're right about me not having any smarts, oh yeah, sorry I don't want to agree." He crossed his arms.

I sighed, "Okay you're right. You do have brains, why else would you always be picking your nose so much? Your brain must get pretty itchy."

Callum glared at me before sighing and turning back to my sister, "Yeah, we will take em, I'll use them to somehow show this nucklehead I have a brain." Callum said, sending me a glance.

I nodded, "Uh-huh, It'll be fun. But Callum, you can't prove what's not there."

Callum slumped his shoulders.

"I don't know what's worst anymore, your constant abuse or my parents constant screaming." He put his palm to his head. "I'm going to sleep." He grumbled starting his way to the guest room.

My mom sent me a glance and I hurriedly avoided it and made my way to my room.

A carnival, huh? Sounds like fun.

"Callum, get up." I threw open the curtains in his room and shook his shoulders, still nothing. "It's 2 in the afternoon, how late were you up last night?" I grumbled, attempting to rip the sheets off him as well.

Callum shivered, "Cold." He murmured, tightening his grip on the blanket and pulling it over his head.

"You such a child, come on, get up you idiot."

"Idiot." Callum mumbled back sleepily.

"Get up or I'll braid your hair again."

"My hair..." he repeated.

God what is his issue?!

"Callum, I'll count to three. One... two-"

"Shhhh, too noisy." He rolled around under the blankets, wrapping himself in them into a blanket burrito.

Why me? Why do I have to be stuck with him?

"Callum, get up." I laid my body on Callum, he didn't budge and eventually I realized he wasn't gonna move, I pulled away.

I heard him laugh slightly and I couldn't tell if he was asleep or if he was mocking me.

"Get up or I'll get my cousin to get you up."

There was a long pause and then a deep sigh. Grabbing the top of the blanket that was over his head he pulled it down, revealing his face and messy hair.

I coughed, trying to cover my laugh at his hair.

"You really suck sometimes." Callum grumbled, sitting up and rubbing his eyes sleepily. The blanket fell down his torso revealing his naked abdomen.

I coughed.

I laughed, "Man, you were even going to let me braid your hair too... I should've just done it and saw how you reacted when you woke up."

Callum paused, "That's harassment." He said, grabbing a shirt off the ground, smacking his face into it, inhaling deep before nodding and putting it on.

"God Callum, is that even clean?" I asked, making a face at it.

Callum rolled his eyes, "You can be such a girl sometimes." He said his voice crackling because of his tiredness.

"Nothing wrong with being a girl you bone head. Anyway. Get dressed, the Carnival thing opened at 1:30 and it's 2:00 so we have plenty of time." I said.

Callum nodded before stopping, "What the hell man? If we have so much time why did you wake me up?" He whined, like a little baby being woken up from his nap.

"Because sleeping this late is unhealthy. You should get a job or something-"

"Okay, mom. Get out of my room please." He grumbled.

I sighed and made my way towards the door. Nearly tripping over the mess he had already made.

I swung open the door only to hear a loud thunk and an even louder 'ow!'

"What the-"

I peaked around the corner, seeing my cousin with her hand out slightly, rubbing her head with her hand.

"Who opens a door like that?" She whines, "What did you take a corse in military training and they taught you to kick the door open like that?" She held her head.

I blinked, "I'm so confused. What are you doing outside of Callum's room?"

She glared, "Looking for you, idiot. Auntie told me you knew where the Xbox controller was and your sister told me you were in here, so I came to look for you... when you decided having a door wasn't a good idea. I'm pretty sure you gave me a concussion." She whined.

I sighed, "Oh sorry. Uh, Callum normally has all the Xbox and PlayStation stuff."

The door swung open pelting me in the back with the handle, "Ow! Damn Callum, do you know how to open doors?"

"What-" my cousin stumbled out.

"I heard my name I thought it might be someone important, but it's just you," He said disappointed.

I glared at him, "Why would someone important come to my house for you?"

Callum thought about this for a moment, "Who knows." He shrugged.

Callum now wore the shirt he put on and jeans along with black sneakers of some sort.

"Ready to go?" He asked, forgetting something.

"You idiot. Your hairs a mess. Go comb it then we can go."

Callum frowned, "You've been calling me an idiot a lot lately and personally I don't appreciate it." He raising his hands into the air, "I don't get enough respect in this house. I bring home groceries, food..." his words die off and he closes the door for what I suppose is to brush his hair.

I rubbed my back from where the handle hit me, "Ow."

"See." A fist collided with my shoulder, "Now you know my pain." My cousin said, she paused for a second. "Can I come with you and Callum?" She asked hopefully.

"We don't have anymore tickets."

She sighed.

Maybe I felt a little bit bad for her.

~~~
"Why are we here again?" Callum asked, glancing around at the bunches of people in line.
"Because you took the tickets to prove you had a brain. This is your own fault." I said, crossing my arms in annoyance.
"Hmm." He said, "Come with me," grabbing my hand Callum jerked me out of the line and up to a lady wearing one of the uniforms the workers wear. "I don't want to wait in that long line." He murmured to me and my confused gaze.
"Excuse me miss." Callum said, sending her a grin. "Hi, my name is Callum, my daughter actually just got in, she's with my ex and we have strict rules, she can't be with her without me around. I'm really worried and this is probably against the rules, can you please let us in? We have tickets but I bought them last minute and we came late. I really need to get her." Callum pleaded, holding out the tickets with a shaky hand.
"Uh- Yeah. Okay, I guess. You can come in through the back way so we don't get any complaints."
Callum let his shoulders slump, "Oh thank you so much, I've been so worried." He said.
"It's fine. I could call security for you if you'd like help to find them faster?"
Callum shook his head, "No, please. My wife isn't allowed to be near her but that doesn't mean I want her going back to jail."
The lady sent me a weird look and that's when it occurred to me.
Callum just naturally can look like a 25 year old, but I have a baby's face and still look like a teenager.
"Okay. Come this way." She grabbed our tickets.
She used her key and opened a gate for us, allowing us in.
"If you need any help finding them just find a security guard and ask for assistance."
Callum nodded, smiling. "Thank you so much."
He said.
We continued to walk and after awhile
Callum turned to me.
"And that, my friend, is how you get in." He grinned, before pulling me along.
"That was dumb, Cal."
"Don't lie Josh." Callum sent me a wink. "You felt like the main character, don't lie."
