"So now that we got in, what ride do you want to go on?" Callum asked, sticking his hand in his pockets.

I looked around, "I don't know, it's so busy and crowded and I feel sticky from the heat, ugh gross."

Callum nodded his head, "It's affirmative, you're a girl in disguise." He said, grinning to himself.

"Hey! How many times do I have to tell you there's no problem with that? I was going to give you credit for your genius idea of getting us in here but now I don't know."

"Oh come on! I deserve the praise." He said, shrugging his shoulders.

"Maybe. But you certainly don't have any respect for the person who's going to give it to you." I grumbled, turning away.

He sighed, "Sometimes I wonder how the hell my best friend is such a god damn child." He shook his head, "But that's okay. I've been told I'm very good with children." He paused before slowly grinning, "Wanna get a churro?"

I rolled my eyes, "And somehow I'm the child." I said sarcastically. "You know, there was a time when I was taller than you and stronger than you."

Callum stopped. "Wait, for real?" His eyes wide as if I had told him I put dog shit in his pillow and that's what he used for hair gel.

"Uh-Huh. Remember when we were like 6 I was taller than you. My mom probably still has pictures of it."

Callum scoffed, "Well... you were 6 and I was 6, who Really pays attention at 6?" He waved his hands around and spoke in an 'I'm-extremely-insulted-but-I'm-going-to-try-not-to-show-it' kinda voice.

I sent him a glance. Looking at him now, it was no shocker that I was taller than him back then. The taller ones always turn out shorter than the shorter ones. Does that make sense?

"Oh come on. You were a cute, little, short Callum. You had chubby little cheeks and really thick eyebrows. You looked like a gremlin when you walked and-"

Callum's face was a beat red and he sent me a challenging glare. "I will beat you up." He said.

I laughed, "So easily sensitive. Anywho, whatcha wanna do? Oh that rhymed."

"Well we are at a fair- carnival who gives a shit what it's called. I want to get a churro and I want to get a funnel cake and I want to go on a ride and feel like I'm going to vomit out my guts."

"I WaNt ThIS ANd I WaNt ThAt." I mocked, "So concerned for yourself." I shook my head jokingly.

Callum nodded his head. "Uh-Huh. And that's exactly why, when I buy them, I'm not paying for yours either." He walked ahead of me, his long strides making it difficult to catch up.

"Hey, I pay when we go out for lunch!" I whined, doing a half-sprint-half-awkward-run.

"Hold on, can we at least sit down for a second? I have to tie my shoe."

Callum sent me a mock look of annoyance, "Why don't you just get rid of your shoe laces like me?" Callum flexed his dirty, three year old shoes. He said he had an emotional attachment to the shoes, that he"d never get rid of them

But I think it's more like he couldn't afford a good pair of normal shoes, he often said that he was good with his normal shoes being shit as long as his running shoes weren't. I offered to buy him new shoes and he refused.

"Because I value my toes. Hold on let's sit-"

Callum and I took a seat on a bench, having casual talk.

And by casual I mean I was bullying Callum.

"Was that shirt even washed?"

"Yes, it was, I found it near the clean hamper." He retorted, glaring at me.

"Near the clean hamper? Not in the clean hamper?"

"I'm sure it just fell out or something." He said defensively.

"That's gross Callum, what if that's dirty?l

"I don't care, mom." He rolled his eyes, patting my leg. "Besides, you've worn dirt clothes before too haven't you? No- don't even lie Joshy I've seen you just throw something on." He pointed an accusing finger at me.

"Still, I know that it's remotely clean even if-"

"Hi, excuse me." Some lady said, standing in front of Callum and I, her hair was a silvery gray.

"Hello?" Callum said slowly, confused.

"I'm sorry, but I was just wondering... are you two dating? I'm sorry if you're offended by that, it's just that so many youth today are misguided when it comes to homosexuality and the Bible. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

My eyes widened, "What's wrong with homosexuality?" I asked.

"Well a lot Is wrong, I didn't mean to approach you and upset you, it's just that with all this social media exposure and stuff I just wanted to make sure you guys are properly guided and-"

"Yeah." Callum said, "I think you did mean to upset us. Why would you just come up to random people, teens at that, and say something like that?" I could tell he was angry just by the tension of his voice.

"I just wanted to know, because teens are-"

"Misguided, yeah I know, but I don't know how my life nor how my friends life, is any of your business." Callum crossed his arms, "And I think it's really weird how you were comfortable enough to approach two men together with the assumption they were dating."

I was kind of surprised from just how formally Callum was talking, he was genuinely mad, no jokes, just glares.

"Right..." the lady trailed, "Well I'll be off then, I'm sorry if I've upset you."

"Thanks for apologizing, have fun." Callum said with a strained smile.

Once she was gone Callum turned to me, "What a bitch. She smelt like baby powder and holy water."

"What does holy water smell like?"

"Uh... water?"

I shook my head, "Sometimes I really wonder what on earth went wrong when you were being created."

Callum frowned, "I don't even want to think about that process."

I flicked Callum's forehead. "You idiot! That's not what I meant." I walked away, heading towards the CottonCandy.

Callum rubbed his forehead, pouting like a child. "What are you doing?" He asked, catching up with me easily.

"I'm getting some cotton candy." I grumbled, crossing my arms and getting in line.

"Why?" He asked, making a face at the long line.

"Because your stupidity has somehow managed to make my blood sugar low." I said.

Callum made a confused face. "Don't you need blood for that? I always just thought you were some kind of mutant alien guy."

"Shut up." I said, buckling his knees.

He jerked slightly, "No churros for you."

~~~
"Josh, going on the Farris wheel is for children. Do I look like a child to you?"
I grabbed his wrist, Pulling him further up the line. "Yes. Plus it's the only ride we haven't been on and I feel like I'm going to throw up because of you. Jerk." I grumbled.
"And you think dangling from a carriage multiple feet off the ground and looking down is a good idea?" He asked looking at me like I was stupid.
In all honesty, I was being a bit... hopeful, optimistic, naive.
It's just... you always see about how in movie the most romantic scenes happen in the Farris wheel! And no, I'm not saying something will happen. But if anything, I hope this makes up somewhat closer, you know, even just as friends if that's how he wants it to be.
"Next."
I grabbed Callum's hand and forced him inside.
"Keep your hands and feet inside the carriage, don't swing the carriage, if you hear a loud ding please inform someone immediately. Don't open this door. Have a good ride." The guy closed the door for us and slowly (but surely) the ride began to move.
"Mate, that's kinda scary." Callum chuckled to himself, "'if you hear a loud ding'." He repeated.
"Callum, are you okay?" I asked, keeping back my laughter at his pale face.
"Of course why wouldn't I be okay? I just think it's kinda sketchy, that's all." He said, holding onto the railing really tightly.
"I thought you weren't afraid of heights?" I asked.
"No but... I don't trust a ride where people tell me 'if you hear a loud ding, tell someone'. Something about it... eh it just doesn't feel right." He laughed nervously. "Plus... some I don't know, you hear a lot of stories about these kinds of accidents."
I shook my head, "The likelihood of that is so incredibly low, Cal."
"Not impossible though, not impossible at all."
Callum glanced down and groaned, his head flopping over and landing on my shoulder.
"Why don't you look at the scenery?" I asked, somewhat cliche, but in hopes of making him feel better.
"I already tried that, I thought I was gonna throw up."
"Please don't throw up on me." I whispered, genuine fear in my voice.
Callum laughed, closing his eyes, "Relax, I won't. And if I do I'll aim for your shoelaces so that you can be like me and go without them." He teased with a cackle.
After a few moments, Callum became more and more comfortable with the ride, lifting his head from my shoulder and looking at me.
"It's been a minute and no loud dings. Think we are okay?"
I nodded, "I thought we were okay the whole time, but yes, now I'm 7000% sure we are okay."
Callum grinned, leaning towards the side of the cart and waving and the random, unsuspecting people below. People below who waved back awkwardly and uncomfortably.
"Callum." I whispered out unconsciously. "You are such a child." I leaned my head back against the back of the cage.
"But you love me." He replied, staring down at the ground below.
"That I do." Probably more that you think.
"Josh. Thank you, I mean the whole thing, me being scared, nah I'm Callum at don't get scared." He poked me in the side, "Gullible."
I laughed, "Callum you were definitely scared."
He shook his head, "Not at all, you just wanted me to be afraid because you're a pussy, and you wanted me to be more pussy than you."
"That doesn't even make any sense."
"You don't make any sense."
I clenched my teeth in slight frustration. "Callum!" I went to stand up when I heard a loud echo.
"Don't rock the carriage."
I sat back down slowly and glared at him. Callum's gaze turned soft.
"What an awesome day."
"Yea-" I got cut off.
"Never mind It fucking sucks."
"What?!" I exclaimed watching his mood immediately change. "Why?"
"We never got churros." He faked a sob like a child.
I laughed. "We can still get churros. It doesn't close til later." I said.
He sighed, "Yeah but I'm broke. You expensive." He said, grabbing his wallet.
"Then I'll pay. For both of us." I said, not even wanting to try a churro but willing to do it for him.
He grinned, "Perfection at its finest." He said towards me before turning back towards the side of the gate and waving at the people below, he watched them hesitantly wave back.
Perfection.
